Sorry SuSE: 9.1 is Waste of time and money!

I am sorry to conclude that my upgrade from SuSE 9.0 Pro to 9.1 Pro has been waste of time and money for me, so far. The same I have to say about the free SuSE "Installation support". The reason is that my SuSE 9.1 installation only detects 1 of my 3 SCSCI devices (as I wrote in another subject on this forum: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-May/3254.html) Yamaha 4416S CDRW recorder detected HP DVD Writer 100i NOT detected Epson 1640SU scanner NOT detected It's rather stupid. I have installed 9.1 using the DVD disk just in the HP DVD drive, but after the installation of 9.1, the KDE/Konqueror /media/recorder cannot access it and YaST2 cannot install additional software from it. Only one "Cdrecorder" is found in My computer and that is the Yamaha 4416 drive, which the KDE/Konqueror file manager assign as /media/recorder11. I am sure 9.1 is the reason, as I hadn't this problems with 9.0. I have tried both an update and two several new installation of 9.1. Neither SJDS nor Windows on the same multiboot PC have problems to detect these devices. In my opinion SuSE should therefore debug 9.1 better and longer, and not leave the problems to the customers. I see SuSE notes on their web saying that they know SCSI scanners are not detected in 9.1. But regarding my HP DVD writer problem, the SuSE support (as usual) don't take the responsibility and argue that this problem (a combination of IDE disk and SCSI devices) isn't included in their free installation support! This sounds remarkable, and I have never had a modern PC of so simple model or configuration that it has fitted the limited rules for the free installation support. Terje J. Hanssen

Missing window frames on XFCE after update

Hi, I had to shutdown my machine due to impending power outage. Clever me I figured I'd update before shutdown to pick up whatever was new. Well, whatever is new since my last update on openSUSE Leap 15.5 messed up my XFCE settings. When I start a new application there are no window frames and everything starts in the upper left hand corner. Alt-Tab is not working to switch between apps Since there are no window frames I cannot move windows around. And there is only 1 workspace, albeit the workspace settings dialog shows that there should be 4, which is what I had setup prior to system shutdown. Any ideas? [SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. chromium and h.264 codec in 15.5

Hi, I'm a little confused about the h.264 codec and chromium in 15.5. I can play the video from https://html5videoplayer.net/html5video/mp4-h-264-video-test/ in both chromium-119.0.6045.199-bp155.1917.5.x86_64 and firefox-esr-115.6.0-lp155.1.1.x86_64. But when I try to join a webex meeting with chromium, it tells me "Video and shared content not supported by browser settings Activate the H.264 video codec in your browser settings so people can see your video and shared content and you can see other videos and shared content." Firefox works fine. chromium also says "not supported" on https://mozilla.github.io/webrtc-landing/pc_test_no_h264.html while Firefox says "supported". I've installed chromium-ffmpeg-extra from packman and added rpms from http://codecs.opensuse.org/openh264/openSUSE_Leap/x86_64/ but it doesn't change anything. Slowroll repos and updating

I load a fresh Tumbleweed, go into Yast and delete every single repo. Then I 'begin' the routine linked here and quoted below... https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Slowroll rm /etc/zypp/repos.d/* ...which in essence dumps any existing repo but when I reload Yast they're all back there! If I then continue with the ritual I end up with 14 mostly TW repos and trying to do 'zyopper up' get me a warning about tumbleweed needing 'zypper dup'. As for 'zypper up', it will use 14 repos, mostly Tumbleweed! cups 2 printersetup for one printer

Hi, since years i use 2 (or more) printer setups in cups to use one printer. -> for different "standard" settings lets say its a color printer, but to save money often i like to print black and white. so i define a printer with the a ppd file and same printer adress twice, one with color settings one with settings black and white. so i have not to click and search all the printer settings to set up this 2 main settings. instead if i like to print color, i use the "color printer, or the foto-setting-printer or the black-and-white printer. since years i have used this with different printers "hp" and "qms" was working. since about a year i own a "sharp mx3060" i do not know if cups has changed anything or if its the printer. but it did not work any more. i have 2 stored ppd's inside etc/cups/ppd/... Attempting to Hibernate, powercycles machine instead::

Hello, A question for you is that currently attempting to 'Hibernate' (tried twice), the machine goes through the process...halts/poweroff *completely* for about a second. All signs of PSU and display features turn off.... then suddenly powers up at bios menu. After entering the LUKS passphrase some boot information is displayed. pertaining to the prior "Hibernate" attempt (I believe). Here is some journalctl output on this: Thinkcentre-M57p:/> journalctl -b -1 | grep "hibernate" Feb 17 13:15:48 Thinkcentre-M57p systemd[1]: systemd-hibernate-resume.service: Deactivated successfully. - I recently created a PS2.Keyboard.service to try allow for 'suspend' to work with my PS/2 connector style keyboard in an attempt to mitigate the i8042 controller bug. strange problem with BT in KDE Plasma: bluez claims "file transfer succeded" but does not save, now does not even connect. Seems broken.

Connecting from my smartphone with BT to bluez, I can send files with "share", the BT bluez of my PC says transfer running, transfer succeeded, but the it claims "cannot save files" and now file is saved indeed. I have no explanation, the directory is the home directory of the user with a dedicated BT download directory, I checked permissions and did chmod on it to make sure all files and the directory have the correct permissions. That was yesterday, now it is even worse (yesterday I detached and reattached the BT dongle) so it shows connected, even the battery remaining on the smartphone but.... the sending process remains 0 and no notice in KDE appears. After a while it interrupts. No idea why it did not save yesterday, why it does not receive the files today...... Does anybody has and Android smartphone and tried to use BT file transfer on KDE Plasma to tell me if it is known to be broken?

Hi, this machine is running openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.10 KDE Frameworks Verison: 5.115.0 Qt Version: 5.15.12 Kernel Version: 6.76.6-1-pae Graphics Platform: X11 Graphics Processor: i915 Having some shading issues with KDE Plasma so I created file kwin.sh in /etc/profile.d Permissions are --> -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 26 FEB 29 13:54 kwin.sh I added 'QT_QUICK_BACKEND=software' in order to attempt to software render QT Quick because OpenGL backend uses complex shaders which do not fit into i915 hardware specifications. There is no luck with this modification as of yet. Is it a security issue to add 'x/execute' permission to the file? None of the other files in profile.d have execute permissions set as of now default. Any thoughts on what is going on here with this?
