leap 15.3 - cups web-interface hanging up ?

I have just upgraded our printserver to Leap 15.3 and the cups web interface appears to hang up, often taking 20-30 seconds to load. Why No gcc-arm-none-eabi package for Leap?

All, Having installed to /opt on 15.0, I was hoping we might find a gcc-arm-none-eabi package for 15.4 given the increasing popularity (and dependence) on microcontrollers. There is a build service package available, but this seems like something openSUSE would want to package? Any thoughts on this? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

You know only Google, I like Yandex. I am not as smart as you ok so I stopped. I do care for Lenin and I respect others. I am not the best typer but I can try. Lenin will always be with Monoprice and others of the state and even Stasi. Don't need to pick on me when I use an OS but slam the libbies.

In my phone, if I start to type and there is a tiny "sms" text by the button arrow to "send", that indicates that the message will have a cost according to the phone provider. If there is nothing (and the box is probably coloured in blue), then the message will use internet (can be WiFi) and is zero cost, even if sending photos, except whatever your internet connection costs you. "This video cannot be played"

I have received a number of messages from various sources with a video attached, but across the face of what must be the first screen, is the message, "This video cannot be played." I'm curious--what kind of video is being sent that cannot be player, and why? --doug

Tip: IOS Files + Samba - seamless access to $HOME through phone over Wifi

All, After being forced to update my phone (they took down 3G), a pleasant surprise was the "Files" app that will connect to any available smb server. I may be late to this party, but this was a huge improvement with the pain of e-mailing from my phone to my server to transfer files on the old iphone 4s. If you haven't discovered samba on Linux, then a simple way to share your files with your phone is to install the samba package, and you can use a simple config to share $HOME and make your files available to via the Files app. (note: samba 4.15 is fine, but 4.16 introduced a bug that broke sharing of [homes] in standalone mode, https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15062, this will be fixed in the next 4.16.x release) 15.4 still has samba 4.15, so you are fine. Double check if on Tumbleweed. The cliffs notes version, create a trivial /etc/samba/smb.conf to share your $HOME (done through the [homes] share in the config). A basic config is: [global] dns proxy = No map to guest = Bad User printcap name = cups security = USER server string = %h Samba %v workgroup = WORKGROUP map to guest = Bad User cups options = raw vfs objects = fruit streams_xattr [homes] browseable = No comment = Home Directories read only = No (The 'vfs objects' config is required to handle IOS connections, and of course you are free to change 'WORKGROUP' to whatever) You can limit connections to your specific subnet or specific IP addresses with a space separated list, e.g.: hosts allow = 192.168.0. (when done editing smb.conf, run 'testparm' to check your config and see a dump of the settings. If no errors, all is good) To add valid samba users, all that is needed is: # smbpasswd -a username Use Yast-firewall to add 'samba' to the public zone, and then start 'nmb' and 'smb', e.g. # systemctl start nmb # systemctl start smb (to have it automatically start at boot, substitute 'enable' for 'start' and re-run the two commands above) That's it. Just open the Files app on your IOS device, click the ... menu and "Connect to Server", type in your hostname, then next and enter your samba user name (keep it the same as your Linux user), and pw and presto, $HOME appears on your phone. I'm no IOS fan, but this is one app they got right. So long as your IOS device is connected to your LAN via Wifi, Files provides access to all smb shares available. (I also recommend disconnecting from local shares before leaving your wireless range. Otherwise, if you need to access Files on your phone while away, you will wait through ~60 sec timeout as Files tries to connect to your server -- something discovered while trying to pull up my auto-insurance information to hand to a friendly DPS officer...) -- David C. Firefox 91 - "Web Content" Higher CPU Demand - Any Way To Minimize?

All, One thing I've noticed with FF 91 compared to FF 78 on 15.0 is FF 91 is quite a bit heavier on the CPU that 78. top shows the culprit to be "Web Content". This is with the exact same pages open. I first noticed this by the fan level on my laptop. Checking, rather an an intermittent "Web Content" process waking up and doing whatever it does, it now runs a majority of the time. Not continually, but close. In the past, Xorg was the leader (as expected) running at 0.997% CPU. (that's damn good). But now "Web Content" is continually up with Xorg demanding 0.997% (or 0.664% at times). The end result is a slightly higher CPU demand at idle than with 15.0. This is down on the fine-tuned end of things. I generally tune my setup until the laptop fans are silent at idle. Goal is a "load average:" at idle in top of 0.01 0.01 0.01 or less. Currently it is 0.03 or 0.02 and the difference is "Web Content". Below is the top output (it's a bit higher because I'm editing this in Tbird at the moment), but the rest is representative. [opensuse] Memtest & UEFI

X virtual frame buffer

I have a headless 15.3 system that I would like to access remotely. I need access to the desktop (i.e. X). When there is no display attached, X does not start. I wanted to install xf86-video-dummy, but it complains: error: Failed dependencies: X11_ABI_VIDEODRV = 25.2 is needed by xf86-video-dummy-0.4.0-lp153.24.1.x86_64 So I am guessing that X on 15.3 has recently changed the ABI. The installed xf86-video-* were built on May 2019. Note that these were still the ones that eventually were installed on Feb 2022. Unfortunately I did not install the dummy driver at that time. The change seems recent. As an alternative, I see that one could add some config to X for this. I read mixed things about how that works in terms of systems not booting. I also was considering xrand (xrandr --fb 1280x1024 -display :0). Seems starting that via ssh can be iffy depending on how it is handling X. So I have not been able to test it. If I make it start when the system boots, could it do anything to keep the system from booting? -- Roger Oberholtzer
