openSUSE devs, Don't know if the powers that be are up on this, but quite alarming and I still can't figure out how to test for it. Apparently corrupt versions of systemd-daemon and gvfsd-helper have been used -- for years. https://www.theregister.com/2021/04/29/stealthy_linux_backdoor_malware_spot… Any body got more on this? -- David C. Recognized but unusable hp 1109w printer on Leap 15.2 up to date

Setup in yast or hplip both see and recognize printer but all text pages and attempts to use this printer fail. I have followed the usual methods and was able to install another older printer which works to a degree random out of paper faults on older printer. I tried different usb ports and still no go. I have no idea what to try next. The ppd files are installed. I have finished sticking needles into my Office365 voodoo dolls, someone in Seattle will have been writhing in pain. I know, I known, but it feels _really_ good. I am about to go watch "Line of Duty", I'm totally hooked. At openSUSE, tonight someone crashed the galera cluster, unfortunately nothing much I can do. It seems to be myself and cboltz "on duty". In between, I've been listening to David Gilmour playing old Pink Floyd stuff, I can never tire of that. I need to boot into my crashed Tumbleweed system to copy some files onto a second ssd within the computer. I have several install disks from different dates, including one from a couple of days ago. I would be happier if the boot disk does NOT include an installation, since I'm afraid I might wipe some of the data off the existing crashed drive. I have two different Linux systems and Windows 10 available to do the job. I have looked on Google, but most of the information there is designed to install a system. I I am assuming that if I can boot a Linux system from CD that I can then read the internal drive and copy files to another drive. If I'm wrong, then what do you suggest? Please keep it as simple as possible, I'm not a guru! Thanx--doug

KDE3 konqueror question

Hello: This question is addressed only to KDE3 users or who knows KDE3. The question applies to KDE3 konqueror file manager in openSUSE Leap 15.1. When I open konqueror as file manager it takes very long time (~30 secs) until it populates its file window with files and directories (that is, becomes ready for use). I have plenty of files in my home folder but I still find this delay too long. If I open kde3 krusader file manager it starts and loads the same directory in one second without delay. What can cause is this delay and how could I make it shorter? Thanks in advance, Istvan

ipv6 ndp ?

On some servers we rent at Hetzner, we have recently (in the last month) begun to run Xen - and the Xen guests obviously have "made up" MAC addresses, e.g. 00:16:3e:bb:ac:82. For IPv4, we have enabled proxy_arp on the bridge interface, works well as always. We have not yet configuredany IPv6 in any of the guests, only on the xen host. The guests only have a link-local address. In this config, the only MAC addresses that should be seen on the network that of the only real interface, eth0/br0. However, Hetzner is complaining that some of our guest MAC addresses are "leaking out". AFAICT, this is happening in neighbour solitications and advertisements, with the link-local addresses. I figured out we probably needed to enable ipv6 ndp - neighbour discovery protocol proxy : setting /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/*/proxy_ndp = 1 This did not have the desired effect, so I am clearly missing something? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (17.2°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland.
