[opensuse] Problem with a Canon Selphy 740

This is an older photo printing machine. It is now supported by gutenprint drivers and is also offered in yast. The problem I face: I have activated cups and cups browsed (as it is an older printer). When I list it in lsusb I can see the selphy correctly seen as usb device. However, when opening yast, the printer is not seen, so I cannot install any driver. I shortly thought about an apparmor problem but deactivating tentatively apparmor does not change a thing. I am stuck because in substance: I do not understand why a device that is listed in lsub is not seen in yast. Maybe it is not correctly seen as print device? How could I determinate this? [opensuse] firefox opens new MUA

I've noticed that for the past little while, whenever I click on a mailto link in a web page, Firefox opens a new copy of my MUA, which happens to be claws-mail. I don't want this. Previously when I clicked on a mailto link, it simply opened a compose window using my already open claws session. This is what I want. I don't think I have knowingly changed any settings in either program. FF is 68.2.0esr (64-bit) Does anybody have any idea why this is happening and/or on what I can do to revert the behaviour? [opensuse] systemd and dhcp clients

I have a number of Ethernet devices that obtain their configuration via DHCP. I would like to start a system service when a device has obtained an address. For example, I have some GigEVision cameras that can synchronize time using PTP (a variation on NTP). We use the openSUSE packages for this. There are two systemd services that should start when a device comes on line. In another situation, I have a LiDAR scanner that gets an address via DHCP. I want to start a daemon that manages remote access to the LiDAR scanners. In both cases the service that should run is on the server after the remote has gotten an address. The services are not running on the client that obtained the address. I do not know if there is a way, in the context of a systemd service starting, to sense that a device has gotten a DHCP address. Of course I do not have to use systemd. But we are trying to do things on openSUSE the openSUSE way. In KDE Network Manager, it's possible to set up a hot spot. When I try this, I can only enable NAT on IPv4 and no address on IPv6. Is it possible to do this? Automatic method on both IPv4 and IPv6 gives this situation, as does Shared to other computers on IPv4. On IPv6, I have also tried Automatic (Only addresses). Is there any mode that passes IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, from the LAN to the client device? I don't even see any changes on the command line, which shows a 10.a.b.c address on IPv4 and link local on IPv6. Is there any info anywhere on how this is supposed to work? [opensuse] Ongoing suspend resume oddities

In order to work around problems with suspend to ram, I switched to using hybrid suspend. But upon resuming on one occasion I got this message on the screen (which was replicated in the journal): Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 2d on CPU 0. Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled? Dazed and confused, but trying to continue What's happening? Should I use a older different kernel? I am using 4.12.14-lp151.28.36-default #1 SMP Fri Dec 6 13:50:27 UTC 2019 (8f4a495) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux It's all a fairly standard installation KDE plasma. [opensuse] Hardware Recommendations?

Hi Folks, My 13-year old HP desktop is still working fine, but it's obviously time to retire it before it permanently dies. Also, my wife recently found a bit of luck at the casino and this is the perfect time to upgrade. So I have a couple of questions about hardware compatibility with openSUSE. It looks like the AMD Ryzen cpu's have a bit of an edge over Intel, but has anyone seen compatibility issues? And what about high-res monitors? I'm looking at a UHD (3840 x 2160) monitor, any issues with Leap 15.1? And how about those really wide/curved monitors? Hi, looks, like https://ftp.gwdg.de having some issues in syncing with https:// download.opensuse.org, but I'm still referred to ftp.gwdg.de for some reason. Compare https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/frispete:/blender/ openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/ with https://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/home:/frispete:/blender/ openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/ Isn't this a flaw of mirrorbrain, that should cope with such situations properly? Is there anything, that could be done on my side to avoid ftp.gwdg.de for now?
