Thanks for telling of "dm-tool switch-to-user". Will it work with sddm and XFCE? Switch to another user from XFCE seems to be broken currently. I have not investigated, but I noticed recently that it does not work, while it did work months ago. [opensuse] a stupid sudo question

If I am attributing the system "secure rights" in yast. If I am activating group wheel for sudo. If I am taking off sudo rights for everybody else who is not wheel. If I plug now in an usb device, is the user still asked the password for root to mount the device? Or is he now unable to root any usb device (given secure settings)? Is there a way to avoid hat (if you have three users working, only he last open one is presented with the password request for opening an usb device (this is actually very annoying because if you work in one user you do not want to switch to another, to cancel the request, to to have finally the pop up coming up in the right place..... _________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ Ihre E-Mail-Postf�cher sicher & zentral an einem Ort. [opensuse] 15.1, plasma desktop doesnt load any more for certain user

Hi openSUSE list, I had a post with no replies on support suse list: <https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-support/2020-01/msg00123.html> meanwhile I have discovered that this test machine has come rather a longer way with upgrades from previous opensuse releases. Everything worked fine until a few weeks ago. With some zypper dup update, a normally working plasma desktop user was unable to log into plasma ever after. Some extra local linux user accounts, whom had never used the gui login before and thus not created any plasma related config files and never logged into plasma, tried yesterday, still work fine and happily log into plasma. plasma for these users looks rather new and the menu looks more stylish than I remember it from that other user that is currently blocked from logging into plasma. Maybe as that older user has used plasma for a long period of time. Anyhow, how would I make that one blocked user be able to login into plasma again? what config files can I look at, edit or whatever I need to do? I dont have actual real personalisation or specials for that user, only some xterm or konsole was running and always been restoring upon logon to that plasma desktop, thats basically all. IceWM and KWM or those simplistic desktops do work for that plasma affected user as well. Help? [opensuse] CIFS on Tumbleweed

In the past week or so, an update to my Tumbleweed has resulted in me no longer being able to mount CIFS columns from a Windows server (a company server, not my own). I now get this in the system log: [ 2203.773170] FS-Cache: Netfs 'cifs' registered for caching [ 2203.783492] Key type cifs.spnego registered [ 2203.783495] Key type cifs.idmap registered [ 2203.784007] CIFS: Attempting to mount //serammmarst01-a.XXX.ramboll-group.global.network/data2 [ 2214.047746] CIFS VFS: Error connecting to socket. Aborting operation. [ 2214.047774] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -2 No idea why. I do not think that the server has changed. And if it has, some IT guy in some cupboard is the only one who knows and he's not telling. So I am starting with the assumption that something has changed in Tumbleweed. I have tried with ver=1 and var=3. The command is: mount -t cifs //serammmarst01-a.XXX.ramboll-group.global.network/data6 /media/mma-sql-1/data6 -o soft,vers=3.0,credentials=/etc/cifs.creds.ramse,workgroup=RAMBOLL,rw,noauto,uid=roger This also fails when systemd automount tries to mount it. But if the mount command does not work. The /etc/cifs.creds.ramse file is correct and unchanged from when it worked. It makes no difference if I put the items in that file on the command line. The error is the same. I have tried ver= 1.0, 3, 3,0, 3,1,1 and default. No difference. I tried adding -vvv to the mount command to get more debugging. But that did not work. [opensuse] qemu guest network bridged

Is there a simple way to get a bridged network for the qemu guest? From what I have read this should work: qemu-system-x86_64 -machine pc VirtualBox\ VMs/debian/debian.vdi -boot c -enable-kvm -m 1024 -nic tap qemu-system-x86_64: could not configure /dev/net/tun: Operation not permitted Other things I have tried allow me to start the machine but there is no networking. I have tried both wired and wireless on the host (and in fact at the moment I have both, I am not sure how that works). Yes, I know, I've asked before, SUBJ="How to exclude sites from Zypper?" I'm fed up with single digit KiB/s rates where I can't even download a new kernel overnight! Patrick has described here how to add lines to a /etc/zypp/repo/<file>.repo to give specific repository sites to use. baseurl=<LIST OF REPOSITORY SITES> That's all well and good IF AND ONLY IF you have a positive site to list. I seem only to run ones that are slow. Oh, they ping close enough, but download slow. I can see them using netstat to find what I'm being connected to. So I can learn what NOT to connect to, what the slow servers are, regardless of geolocation. [opensuse] Using grub2 in a separate boot partition outside of the btrfs volume to boot the opensuse.

Hi, I installed the latest opensuse leap 15.1 with the default btrfs filesystem. But I want to boot it from outside the btrfs volume with grub2 which is located on a separated boot partition. I tried many times, but still cannot figure it out. On the other hand, the refind boot manager can automatically detect the opensuse and boot it. Any hints / notes for my issue? Is it possible to boot opensuse on the btrfs with grub2 outside the btrfs? [opensuse] Migrating software mdraid Raid1 data partition only to larger physical disks?

Hello fellow lists dwellers, trying to plan and make decisions about migrating a simple, currently two disk sata Raid1 with only a single data partition on it. Created during initial install time of some openSuSE early leap or even earlier times, some years ago in the past. I am not booting off that Raid1, mdraid that is, md127 or something got created by some opensuse installer back then. Methinks I even read about some bugzilla entries at opensuse about why it was called md127 instead of md0 and md1 and such low numbers. Never gotten fixed or settled or I never cared about its name. Also, no LVM here or that kind of stuff, never managed to wrap my head around it, dont know if its even state of the art or necessary for my basic needs. Need data redundancy for a simple data store for files. Found some nice article: <https://zedt.eu/tech/linux/migrating-existing-raid1-volumes-bigger-drives/> System is currently on Leap 15.1 level. Is it advised to use built-in means to go about such a task? Does yast partition and disk tools support adding these things and migrating data over to larger physical disks etc at a sufficient technical level so that everything works fine? I also read in various other articles about partition and data alignment woes, about partition identifiers and whatnot, and wonder if built-in stuff of Leap 15.1 suffices for my basic needs and expansion idea of my physical disks? Thanks for any further pointers and ideas or suggestions what to take into consideration?
