[opensuse] SegFault 7-times today just to retrieve packages during Zypper Up (no fix yet?)
by David C. Rankin 19 Oct '19
by David C. Rankin 19 Oct '19

All,
This is bizarre. Today on Leap 15, I went to zypper up and it SegFaulted 7
times before it finally downloaded all packages. It would download 3-4
packages, then segfault.
This was apparently already reported as a bug several weeks ago. Is a fix or
workaround out?

Hello:
I have a program which saves data in a file. It writes the file when
the user quits the program. I would like to automatically save a copy
of the data file when/after the program quits. How can I achieve that?
I could write a script that makes a copy of the file, but don't know
how to start the script when the program quits.
Any idea or solution is welcomed.
Thanks in advance,
Istvan

[opensuse] urgent help needed: Leap 15.1, firewalld, router not forwarding IPv6
by Mathias Homann 15 Oct '19
by Mathias Homann 15 Oct '19
15 Oct '19
Hi,
I just upgraded my firewall/router from 15.0 to 15.1 with zypper, and now it's
not forwarding IPv6 anymore.
I have not changed anything about the firewall settings (internal interface is
in trusted, external in external, masquerade is on in external), before the
upgrade I could talk IPv6 from any internal host just fine, now i can't. I can
talk IPv6 from the router itself, but not from any machines behind it.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Hi again, all --
This time I do have a real problem. I shut down my laptop
davidtg@wench:~> uname -a ; cat /etc/os-release

to bring it home, and when I brought it back up I suddenly couldn't
run Chrome (Chromium); it pops up its window but then immediately dies.
Here's what it throws:

Firefox gives me a much shorter error with similar disappearing-window results:

I've actually bounced the box a few times with no better luck. I know
that I tried something else that failed, but I don't recall just what it
was. Dolphin works, though, and shotcut will view a video file, so it
isn't simply all graphics stuff.
Um, what did I miss here?!?
TIA & HANN

Hi, all --
This stupid laptop really has me ticked off this morning. I took it
from the desk to bed where I'm home for a sick day (yes, my patience is
already thin!) and found, much to my surprise, that it suddenly goes to
sleep when I close the lid. ?!? Well, fine; I just won't close the lid
when I put it back later, right? But I opeend it and it failed to resume,
so I had to power-cycle it ... and it still won't boot! ARRRRRGH!!!
Whether I try a normal boot or recovery mode, I only get as far as
[ 5.214975] radeon 0000:01:00.0: failed VCE resume (-110).
after a few very brief flashes of boot scroll that I can't catch. I went
googling around for how to disable the sleep thing, but if I can't get it
running again then that part is moot.
Any idea how I can get this unstuck?
TIA again

Hello,
I have installed Leap-15.1 about two months ago. (Almost) everything was
working fine.
Today, I booted up this system again, and can no longer login to KDE. I can
type username/password, but then nothing happens. Keyboard is dead. Only mouse
can be mooved. Even CTRL-ALT-F1 won't work to switch to a virtual console.
As long as I do not try to login to KDE, I can switch to virtual console via
CTRL-ALT-F1 and login as root and/or ordinary user. When I switch back to
CTRL-ALT-F7 and try to login to KDE, keyboard is dead again and login screen
won't vanish.
Below is /var/log/messages of the login attempt.
For me, only the lines marked with "(*)" look suspicous. Maybe somebody else can
get more clues out of this?
Any ideas how to track this down?

[opensuse] google gmail changed IMAP to retain all of your email, regardless of IMAP settings.
by L A Walsh 13 Oct '19

I noticed some people having probs with gmail back in September,
and I noticed a problem with gmail that I couldn't ignore and
still haven't solved.
Sometime last spring google changed their IMAPS service to no longer
follow the IMAP specification. In IMAP, all email is normally
routed to a fixed name 'Inbox' or 'INBOX'.
They changed their IMAP service to put all email under a label
called 'All Mail' that is not displayed, by default. IMAP users
who previously turned off SPAM filtering had it turned back on
with the IMAP 'INBOX' getting the remainder of the mail.
When I checked my account, I found about 440 emails in the Junk/SPAM
folder that were only emails from the past 30 days. Email in
the Spam folder, is auto-deleted after 30 days.
The above default to putting email in 'All Mail'
happens even though the IMAP settings are set to have it deleted:
------This is from the control pannel for IMAP and POP access----
Status: IMAP is enabled
x Enable IMAP
Disable IMAP
When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted:
Auto-Expunge on - Immediately update the server. (default)
x Auto-Expunge off - Wait for the client to update the server.
When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible
IMAP folder:
Archive the message (default)
Move the message to the Trash
x Immediately delete the message forever
--------------------------------------------------
Turns out I am now using about 1.8GB out of my allotment.
I'm still engaging with their 3rd party support people -- google no longer
handles customer support for gmail, but routes emails and calls to a 3rd
party support organization that knows nothing about google's technical
setup. Example of instructions for proceeding further in trying to
escalate this:
=======
Having addressed that we can now focus on the main issue "why IMAP settings are not being followed". To begin looking into this reported error I will need the following information.
1) Disconnect your account from IMAP and re-add. If the issue persist, please obtain the next pieces of information.
2) Screenshot of the IMAP settings claimed not working as intended
3) Screenshot of your IMAP configuration
4) Expected behavior
5) Actual behavior
========
Copying and pasting the settings wasn't something they could deal with.
They responded:
==============
Copying and pasting the setting configuration is not necessarily the same. I actually do not understand all of the text sent together as it appears everything is just joined together.
Once again the following screenshot will allow us to determine why the messages are not being deleted from Google's side.
1) Log into Gmail.com
2) Go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP
3) Full Page Screenshot showing computer Time Stamp
We will be awaiting your response with this so that we may continue to review your request.
--------------
What computer time stamp?
They don't have access to the gmail setup pages we are presented with.
Anyway, if you thought you were not keeping your email on gmail -- you
might want to check.

To stop it, I have to:
killall tracker-store tracker-extract tracker-miner-apps tracker-miner-fs
which works till next login.

Ideas to stop this and get tracker to work properly without this madness?
Bugzilla?

Hi,
on <https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade> it says:
The following command modifies all repos from the old to the new. Modify
"15.0" if your current system is not 15.0:
# sed -i 's/15.0/15.1/g' /etc/zypp/repos.d/*
Well, it does not work for me:
Telcontar:/etc/zypp/repos.d # sed -i 's/15.0/15.1/g' /etc/zypp/repos.d/*
sed: couldn't edit /etc/zypp/repos.d/ANTIGUOS_REPOS: not a regular file
Telcontar:/etc/zypp/repos.d #
Yes, certainly I do have directories in that path. How do I change that
sed command to work ignoring directories in there? I confess that sed
syntax overloads my mind, so I need help.
Meanwhile, I'm editing all those files by hand, one by one.
