[opensuse] login screen changed after tumbleweed dup

Hi, since about 2-3 month, after a tumbleweed dup on my desktop computers (5 identical) (now on actual tumbleweed 20181122) the kde-xorg (ssdm?) - login screen has changed. graphic is opensurce drivers, card is amd (radeon pro wx 4100) it was exactly the same update, on a laptop with nvidia graphic card, (and opensurce driver) the kde-xorg login screen has not changed. a other different is, the laptop normally has only one screen attached, the desktop always 2 screens. and the laptop was about one year before updated from opensuse 13.1 (or so) to tumbleweed, the desktops has been installed one year before clean tumbleweed. - but both have made a lot of "zypper dup" before this happends. the "normal" and now only on laptop login screen i have here: http://susepaste.org/2005638 and the "new" "unwanted" loginscreen on desktop i have here: http://susepaste.org/94134292 i was always hoping it will change again back to normal, but up to now no. i checked in kde: systemsettings / loginscreen and laptop and desktop show both "breeze for opensuse" -> and this looks like it should, but as mentioned, it is on desktop not like this. so maybe there is a fallback to the unwanted login screen? how to found the problem to get the "normal" login screen back? simoN -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner(a)opensuse.org

[opensuse] Question on "backintime" - user experience needed.

I tried to set up a "back-in-time" installation for my friend. She is running opensuse Leap 42.3 currently. I did attach a usb3.0 disc to the machine. On it, I have the backup, created manually the first time in superusermode. Now, first the setting to do incremental backups automatically when branched the disc fails (seems a permission problem). I think it has to run as superuser. Question: If I set it up in a GUI session in root, does this work also when the system starts normally or do I have to set up in CLI via a startup script? Does anybody has a similar setup? The program should do a differential backup of all /home users, no matter which one is logged in, preferentially. It should of course honor the settings of the rest of preferences. Currently I had the issue that, when I do not activate checksum, it does run through with "nothing to do". So I think back in time needs checksum to be activated. I do not want to have "full rsync compatiblility" because I wish the backups to be read only. Is it possible that leap attributes a different path to an external usb3 disc although it has not been unplugged? In case this is so, is it possible to force it to give it a static path? P.s. I will not be able to put your advice into practice at once, but I am gathering input now, so that, when I will have occasion, I can try to set it up this time. [opensuse] VLC 3 and Chromecast

Hi, according to places, VLC 3 can send to a Google Chromecast device, but it does not work for me. <https://www.howtogeek.com/269272/how-to-stream-from-vlc-to-your-chromecast/> My problem is that VLC doesn't see the chromecast device. Google Chrome does, same computer, and I can play things "fine". Well, its version of fine. I have VLC 3.0.2 on openSUSE 15.0. I go to "Playback/Renderer" and the only option is "local". "Scanning" is greyed out. Preferences (Advanced mode)/Stream output/Access output has "Chromecast stream output" selected. Ideas? (VLC from a tablet or phone (Android) does work. Unfortunately, with the video files I'm interested on playing it plays audio, no video at all. [opensuse] Installation display resolution - Leap 15

Hello folks, I need to increase the text size of the install screens on a fresh Leap 15 install. Laptop is a new HP Spectre 360 which I bought for my partner. The installation screens have extremely small text because of the very high monitor resolution. I've searched Google high and low (OS forums, documentation, etc.,etc) and can't find the answer. Various opensuse documentation say to hit F3 or other Function keys at the Grub2 boot screen before the installation starts, but that produces absolutely no effect. I ran a Leap 15 KDE live USB and pretty much everything works nicely and I can adjust the screen text size on the desktop. Since I have serious vision problems, having very small text size on the installation screens is a very big problem for me. Hello, freshly istalled Leap 15.0 to a new pc. BIOS detects and physically there are 16 DIMM slots used, each with 8GiB memory. dmidecode also shows these values (see below). but there are max 59GiB allocated: # free -h total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 59G 323M 57G 17M 2.0G 58G Swap: 128G 0B 128G any tips how to troubleshoot this further? [opensuse] Shared experience with a Sat-TV card and Tumbleweed (Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-5525 HD 6 in one Hybrid TV Card) - (nearly) flawless

This is only of interest if you are in Europe I suppose. If you are meditating to buy a new card or your first one, you may wonder what is compatible with opensuse: So, the card is a PCI-e 1x card. I do obviously not use the "bill gates memorial software" that ships with it. It offers standards: DVB-S (satellite) DVB-S2 HD, DVB-C, DVB-C, DVB-T and analog TV (pal/secam) and EPG. Comes with a IR remote control. Deceivingly it is not able to walk over waters or to do other wonders. (SCNR) Seriously: tested with opensuse TW and Kaffeine 2.0 using DVB-S and DVB-S2 and a centralized satellite dish. The card is branched to a floppy disc current plug of the powersupply to reinforce the signal (that was previously not necessary for users of PCI but PCI-e 1x cards may need it). Drawbacks: With TW it does not (!) run out of the box. The reason is that, although tumbleweed does deliver an astonishing amount of firmware in /lib/ firmware, the card necessitates of two firmware fw files (one for DVB-S one for DVB-C/T function) of the OpenELEC firmware tree. It has to be downloaded and copied just into /lib/firmware. The link can be found in LinuxTVorg. Second problem: Once done and rebooted the system, the card resulted perfect in all functions with the exception(!) of the remote control. I tried to install kremotecontrol and LIRC in TW, but although the file was recently updated, it seems that the program is out of support for KDE and at least for this card remote control, it does neither work in TW, nor does the kremotecontrol does show up in the tray or in settings. Otherwise the card offers flawless registering, watching TV and HD TV and listening to HD radio. [opensuse] Is there any thought to offer TOTP (yubi-key or nitrokey) for bugzilla and other sites of opensuse?

I am using this for my email and discovered that it is not only very save but also very comfortable if you do not want to put your passwords in some cloud. Either one uses very long or complicated passwords and do not change passwords (or you cannot even remember them). And you should use a different one for every site. With the token I have to remember a PIN of 4 numbers, it gives me a token and that is all about it. You just have to physically protect the token. The kernel developer use this (AFAIK), it is optional in the site I use it, so people do not mandatory have to take the expenditure. Would this be an idea for opensuse?
