[opensuse] networkmanager + nfs + resume

Because of bug#1012299, I have switched to using NetworkManager on a new laptop - but it doesn't really work very well. When KDE is restarting apps that were open with resources on network drives, they fail with "file not found" because the network drives (nfs,cifs) aren't mounted. Also, owncloud doesn't start properly because it cannot resolve the server name. On Leap422 with KDE, how do I get NetworkManager to start early enough or everything to wait until NetworkManager has an active connection? Hi, I'm running Opensuse Leap42.2 (kernel 4.4.49-16-default x86_64) and php 5.5.14. Is there an easy way to upgrade to php 5.6 including all the extensions? is there repo that can do this automatically? Thanks. [opensuse] What is needed to play a video in LO Impress in oS?

Hi all, I thought I should ask the question in the subject. I would like to embed some short videos in a presentation in the unfortunately not too far future. But I can't. I read a lot of text and watched youtube videos so I know how to do that. I know not all video formats work, but ogg would work. And still I failed. I use Leap 42.2. with Plasma5. LO version 5.2.3.3. And then I tried it in some distros in Virtualbox. Linux Mint 18 worked out of the box. Ubuntu 16.10 did not work first but suggested and offered to install some additional packages which drew in numerous other packages. And then it worked. But I simply cannot make it work on my main box. What else is needed? How could I fugure it out? Is it a KDE thing (Mint and buntu were not with KDE) or a SUSE thing? Help is welcome Albert

[opensuse] login screen does not appear after booting (still a problem)

On Feb. 15, I wrote that I could not reboot a computer that had been updated from v13.2 to v42.2. After communincations, it appeared that I had made a mistake. Now I am not sure I had, because I still have a problem. I successfully got things working on the original computer (#1), not quite sure how. I have a second one (#2) with nearly identical hardware, and did the same upgrade to it. But the console X display does not come up after a reboot. There is a quick flash of a line of 'login', then a blank screen except for a dash on the top line. I can log into #2 from #1 and even get a display (e.g. yast2) on #1. I examined the Xorg.0.log files side-by-side. They are very similar most of the way, but diverge when dealing with KB and mouse lines (different hardware). However, the .xsession-errors-:0 file on #2 has the lines The X11 connection broke: I/O error (code 1) XIO: fatal IO error 17 (File exists) on X server ":0" after 24 requests (24 known processed) with 0 events remaining. The /etc/X11 directories are identical on the two computers. Specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 (v1.1) Bios: Award F7 Graphics card: nVidia GT218 [GeForce 8400 GS, Rev.3] Driver: nouveau, with drm Monitors: Viewsonic VA2431 (#1) and VX2450 (#2), in 1920x1080 mode (from auto mode) I need both computers for students. [opensuse] btrfs has taken over

My system has been unusable for 15 minutes or so (and is still very slow). I suspect btrfs, it is showing at the top of top. The disk activity light is permanently on. Is there away to control when it does whatever it is doing? [opensuse] Learning IPv6 the hard way? Why can I even ping or make use in general of ULA address?

Hi there, learning some IPv6 the hard way and trying to make sense of it all. Some soho/router has dualstack ipv6 and ipv4 internet connection via some XDSL ISP. The router provides some LAN with apparently partly ipv6 LAN via dhcpv6. It offers DNS information to LAN clients via dhcpv6. Some Windows7 machine retrieves an rfc1918 DNS server address via dhcpv4 and some ULA (fd00::xxxx:xxxx:xxxxx:xxxxx) DNS server ip address (its own router/gateway IPv6 address) via dhcpv6. Every now and then the WIndows7 machine stops being able to even ping that ULA address. All machines, the windows7 (multiple) and the router/gateway have additionally fe80::...... addresses (link local?) as well. I am now trying to figure out, why I can even ping and use those ULA fd00::xxxxxxxxxxx addresses to begin with, how they come about and where the mask (prefix, suffix and stuff) logic comes into the game here and why I can ping and make use of ULA at all, if all I see in routing tables and ip addresses is the fe80::xxxx addresses. I have a linux client on this LAN as well, some leap 42.2 box, and this machine has also only the fe80::xxxxxxxxx addresses as well assigned to itself and this machien never stopped being able to access the ULA address of that router/gateway and use it for DNS queries while at the same time windows trying to access that ULA address simply stopped working :( On the linux machine, /sbin/ip -f inet6 neigh doesnt yield any entries for any fd00::.... addresses and according to my scarce knowledge about ipv6 i dont see why the ipv6 stack is even able to make use of and to know what to do with fd00:: addresses at all? [opensuse] systemd bootlog, device timed out error message, but path name encoded weirdly?

Do I have a badly formatted config file somewhere, or is this just a mistake in the encoding of the journald or systemd entries in some log and journal? > journalctl -b | grep "timed out" > Feb 21 12:01:31 lux systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2did-ata\x2dWDC_WDxxxx\x2dxxxxxx_WD\x2dxxxxxx\x2dpart1.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2did-ata\x2dWDC_WDxxxxxxx\x2dxxxxxx_WD\x2dxxxxx\x2dpart1.device/start timed out. I am speaking about this odd \x2d Looks like some encoding gone wrong or so? Maybe additionally to that, I have some bad drive or bad ID that is is looking for, but I try to figure out if I literally have this \x2d as a string in some config files, but I find no such entries in neither boot/grub2/ nor boot/grub/ nor in /etc/ nor in /etc/sysconfig/ Where does thist stuff come from? Or is this just being written in this style and encoding to the journald entries? [opensuse] I want to learn about tunnels - I think

Hi, I want to know how to do this. I have a server that is currently remote to me. Ie, I have to connect via internet. In order to have access to its local network I do: firefox --no-remote & in a remote terminal via ssh -X. It works. Responsiveness is slow, though, network delays I guess. And having to paint the entire firefox remotely. I think there is some other way. Somehow connecting the local network there to my laptop, perhaps a tunnel via ssh. Not a vpn, I think. Where can I read about this? A nice document for dummies would be nice, I'm not asking for someone to start typing the full explanation :-) Even the right string for a search in google or elsewhere is nice ;-) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
