[opensuse] Leap 42.1 - Firewall: wlan not listed in interfaces. No privoxy connectivity if activated in wlan. Normal f(x) when on Lan.

I have a problem with the firewall. If I am on Lan all o.k. I have installed privoxy. First anomaly: when on wlan with networkmanager: there is no connectivity. Connectivity without proxy works. Second problem: I opened firewall to see what's going on. No wlan interface in the interfaces. Only eth0 is listed. Wlan is missing. Does this mean the firewall is not protecting wlan? [opensuse] YaST help modal in Leap?

I've just noticed that in Leap the help for YaST appears to be modal. If I click on the help menu and select overview, I get a dialog box but am then unable to use the YaST user interface until I click on the OK button in the help dialog. This seems brain dead but is it a 'feature' that I don't understand? Same for the symbols and keys lists, which really is brain dead. The help also starts out by saying 'this is just a short overview. refer to the manual for details' but doesn't provide a hint or any other help about how to locate the manual! [opensuse] USB 3 now USB 3.1 ???

I truly hope I have this wrong. USB 3 has been around for years. It has a 5 Gbit / sec max throughput. The USB standard was extended recently to have a 10 Gbit / sec max throughput variant. http://www.usb.org/developers/ssusb The now current naming convention is: USB 3.1 Gen 1 => 5 Gbit/sec USB 3.1 Gen 2 => 10 Gbit/sec Thus all the USB 3 equipment on the market can now suddenly claim it is USB 3.1 equipment! Just update the marketing material and you're done! That actually explains a couple things to me. I bought a USB 3.1 docking station a few months ago, but it had performance similar to a USB 3 docking station so I returned it. I suspect it was a USB 3.1 Gen 1, and I didn't know that I had to be on the lookout for Gen 2. That reminds me, I have a couple USB 3.1 PCIexpress cards I bought. I wonder if they are Gen 1 or Gen 2? Count me as un-pleased at this turn of events! How can I tell from linux if a USB controller is USB 3.1 Gen 1 or USB 3.1 Gen 2? [opensuse] New filezilla problem [Leap 42.1]

Howdy... After my recent problem with filezilla & Leap was fixed (thread was ongoing here - a missing libpugixml1-1.7 - thank you Dave Plater) I unintentionally left the network repository (obs) enabled. Apparently I got an automatic recent update to filezilla 3.16/3.17 from that repo which killed it again. What broke here was that the directory list on the server is always shown to be an empty directory, even though it is not. You can't work in a gui with what you can't see ;-) In addition, less important, year dates shown for files in the directory list for the local machine are garbage characters. I had a local copy of the 3.14.1 rpm (also previously taken from obs network), reinstalled that old version over the new one, and the above problems disappeared. My plan was to delete all akonadi related files, have the server rebuild them, manually re-populate the account resources, and re-link the mail store directory to the Local Folders resource. Before doing that, I created a full kmail backup with pimsettingsexporter. and for safety sake attempted to create an archive file with the kmail folder archive function. "Attempted" only because the folder archive function failed. Working this problem I stumbled on to what was causing kmail to lock up requiring a server restart: bad message data in some of the folders. The folder archive process will fail when it encounters a message it cannot process. All the user gets is a terse message saying just that, along with the folder name. In the incomplete archive file I could locate the problem folder and the number of messages successfully retrieved before the failing message. In kmail, permanently deleting messages including the likely "bad" message (typically required several iterations), finally enabled the archive process to complete for that folder. This was necessary in 6 of my ~50 local folders. Before proceeding with rebuilding akonadi, in kmail I noticed I could click on a message and kmail did not lock up. I've been rigorously testing this for 2 days and have not had one single lock up. Note that the lock ups did not occur by trying to access a "bad" message. In fact, it happened clicking on a good message in a folder without any problem. Any folder. It seems that just the presence of the bad messages in some folders can create a condition which subsequently causes kmail and/or akonadi to lock up. I cannot say whether the problem would have resolved if, after rebuilding the akonadi fileset, I had re-linked to my existing mail store or created a new one from the pimsettingsexporter file - the bad messages would have still been there. Nor is there any way I could find that informs the user what makes a message "bad" in this sense. As far as all the "performance schema" errors thrown by mysql, those are all red herrings and should not even be in the error file; they are near certainly bogus and should be ignored. (Side point: running akonadictl start in the terminal is informative and shows the database tables being checked; these error messages are unrelated.) Hopefully some of this information is useful. Hi All, I have installed openSuSE 13.2 on a new computer. Even though I can reach any of the three old computers of my home network, my new computer is unreachable from outside. On the new computer, I have activated and started sshd using the Services Manager in YaST. Now, when I look for ssh with "ps ax | grep ssh | grep -v grep", the following lines appear: 1369 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/sshd -D 1602 ? S 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/gpg-agent --sh --daemon --keep-display --write-env-file /home/wolfgang/.gnupg/agent.info-asus:0 /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc 1604 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/gpg-agent --sh --daemon --keep-display --write-env-file /home/wolfgang/.gnupg/agent.info-asus:0 /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ["asus" is my new computer's name] How can I force my new computer to accept ssh from outside? Do you people know of a video editor that actually works? I have been trying for the past few hours to do a task no more complex than cutting out a little piece of a youtube video, and I have failed thus far. Or rather, the tools have failed me once more. Kdenlive immediately freezes when I try to play the video. I had a frozen application within 1 minute of starting it. Openshot (a gnome app) crashes a lot and eventually I learned how to reduce the video to a smaller part, using "visual" tools - no real cutting here yet. Not only do the text lables have no contrast in KDE (hard to see what's what) also when I did finally export the video, the final few frames were cut off, so my video was now suddenly mangled, reducing it and leaving out the end of the audio (and the video too). Meanwhile of course no one responds in Openshots irc # and when I ask in #kubuntu (which I am using right now) people just direct me elsewhere as they usually do. Do you have any favourite tool that actually works or will I need to install wine just to use Gordian Knot? (No matter how awful?).
