[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). [SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. Mount Windows NT(NTFS) drive as drive Z: for all users

[opensuse] hdparm on boot and YaST

About a month ago I run a cross a post in forums showing the way to run something like 'hdparm -B 254 /dev/sda' upon boot by simply setting some parameter in YaST. Adding fonts?

Hi all, Reading some mails on the GIMP mail list, I ran across the procedure to install some more fonts for not only Gimp, but the system and StarOffice to use also. Well, I installed the fonts, went to the shell and issued the command xset fp+ <font directory> and then the rehash command and all fonts are there! Ok, that went well, but each time I restart the system, I have to do it all over again? Hello: In openSUSE 13.2 the traditional network setup (ifup in yast) was removed and wicd (??) was introduced which I didn't like when I tried. Along with ifup kinternet/qinternet and related packages, eg smpppd (SuSE Meta PPP Daemon, the back-end for kinternet) have been removed too. I am curious how network manager independent network setup occurs in leap 42.1? Does it have kinternet on something similar? But I have a problem: other programs do not see them. I don't see them with exif tools, for instance. I don't see them with shotwell. Conversely, if I write the comments with shotwell (which is configured to write metadata to the photos, not to a database), I don't see them in gwenview (but they do with "exif", tag "User Comment") I hesitate to continue writing comments till I verify that they are in fact written to the photo files, and that other programs read them. I don't see any configuration option in Gwenview regarding this. (why Gwenview? Because rotating photos is fast here, and it doesn't do any library import. For the moment I only want to put each roll in its own directory. Writing comments is also easy, although they are easyer to see in Shotwell) I'm not doing photo edit for the moment. Just archiving. [opensuse] disabling wakeup when monitor sends hibernate message

I have an ASUS_VN289H HDMI monitor connected to my Alienware HDMI output port. When the external monitor is not connected, the system blanks the screen the way I have requested. When the external monitor is connected, the monitor blanks, then the monitor offers a lost signal message, and the system unblanks. I would RTFM if I know which one to look at:-) What I would like to know is how to disable the wakeup call that I think that the monitor must be sending when it looses signal. As stated ind the title: The systemd-udev-root-symlink.service doesnt start anymore and spams my logs with: Cannot add dependency job for unit systemd-udev-root-symlink.service, ignoring: Unit systemd-udev-root-symlink.service failed to load: Invalid argument. See system logs and 'systemctl status systemd-udev-root-symlink.service' for details. I only see: systemd[1]: [/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-udev-root-symlink.service:10] Executable path is not absolute, ignoring: udevlibexec@/rootsymlink-generator in my /usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-udev-root-symlink.service i see ExecStart=@udevlibexec@/rootsymlink-generator (The two at-signs don't make sense to me..) shouldn't it bee ExecStart=/usr/lib/udev/rootsymlink-generator ? [opensuse] question on tunderbird/seamonkey mail imap offline mirroring

Hello: My IMAP mailbox at my ISP is close to full. I would like to delete most of its content form the IMAP server but keep messages locally. I use seamonkey mail (almost equal to thunderbird if I know correctly) with configured IMAP mailboxes. There is an option for download/synchronize messages for offline use which makes a local copy of the messages. My question is if I use this method, and delete messages on the server afterwards not from seamonkey mail (eg in webmail), will be the local messages deleted after a new connection started from seamonkey mail? In other words is the synchronization bi-directional or uni-directional? If bi-directional, what would be the most effective way to clear the server while keeping local messages with possibly maintaining the original directory tree? When I opened a ticket in admin(a)opensuse.org (as this is regarding all mailing-lists not only this one, the confirmation mail and the post once you edit it you receive it instantly. But trying to register a new different email from freemail (entirely different name) does not work, the confirmation letter never arrives. So all but admin(a)opensuse.org bounces at freenet. [opensuse] How to generate grubx64.efi

Hello everybody, On my desktopcomputer i have a standalone boot partition a real orphan,no kernel and no operating system looks for it. It is a stable and customized, al my opensuse flavours boots are adressed via this partition no problems at all. But i added win10 and that doesn't work. I have to generate a new grubx64.efi ! Which program or procedure in leap42.1 does the job ? Is there any documentation on generating a uefi environment ? [opensuse] Failed login prompts on VTs

The last kernel update seems to have killed of the ability to login at the virtual terminals (that is, all the switches to terminals using Ctl-Alt-Fn no longer produce login prompts). The graphical login still works. Systemd-logind is running but hasn't spawned any login prompts for the tty[1-6] This is Linux Mainbox 4.4.0-2.g368c53d-default #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jan 12 13:39:53 UTC 2016 (368c53d) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux on a 13.1 machine Systemd is Version: 208-35.1 The contents of /etc/syste/d/logind.conf are all default (that is everything is commented out). This is the one thing that makes me wonder. Normally commented out values in config files mean "use the compiled in default". (As documented in http://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/logind.conf.html.) Has that changed? I'm aware of 'loginctl' but its use seems obscure. The man page is of no help. I suspect a "loginctl attach seat device" would be useful but I'm far from certain how to specify a new 'seat'. I'm not even sure this is relevant since all I read about it seems to concern a second graphical 'seat'. Yes I have a /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/getty(a)tty1.service Should there be more? I thought all the getty stuff for the virtual terminals was automatically generated by some process that generates the units, somewhere, somehow. So where have they gone? I find not clues that mean anything to me in the logs. I did not change any setting so: a) somebody did put @opensuse on a blacklist (very improbable as long as the server has not been taken over and sent spam all around. And even if, there mails are regularly addressed as mailing-lists. The only thing could be that the did filter all mailing-lists. But I can savely deny. I am written in at GnuPG list. I receive these mail flawlessly. Also the mail from another mailing list comes in without issues. It seems therefore that or @opensuse is filtered actively or that there has been a problem on the server of @opensuse and my registration got damaged? [opensuse] kde-open5 Problem

I use Thunderbird and don't have kmail installed on this TW box, so on Plasma5, f I click on a mailto link in FF, a kmailservice5 launcher button comes up on the panel in the task manager with a spinning animation, and bouncing gear icon which follows the mouse pointer continues forever. kde-open5 and xdg-open appear over and over again as running processes: the threads start, are killed, then start again all in a matter of seconds. This has happened to me before as far back as 13.2. KDE doesn't like it if the default program to open a mailto link in FF is set to a program that doesn't exist as it gets stuck in an infinite loop. Is there a way to stop the kmailservice5 spinning circle and bouncing gear icon without logging out of Plasma 5? Hello, Leap seems to have some color problem, and I can't solve changing theme. I already noticed the standard (default) kde color scheme have some minor contrast problems not worth a discussion. But I have now problems with one application. This application is not an open source one, so I waited to ask here, but there is no problem in Debian Jessie... and the application programmer do not have neither with his Ubuntu. See the three screen copies here: http://dodin.org/owncloud/index.php/s/vYQ5ImJf1ZXvl1T taken from the same VirtualBox host (Leap) in three guesses (Leap, Windows 7 and Jessie - the file name is clear). The problem is in the bottom. Jessie and Windows perfectly shows colors and so buttons, when Leap do not show buttons background colors, so making the button nearly invisible. [opensuse] Creative Webcam Mic dmesg Errors

I'm getting errors spewed out in dmesg which relate to a Logitech Webcam connected to my Linux box. I found if I unplug the webcam from the USB port while the microphone is active in either a VoIP application or just simply recording ambient noise with Audacity, it can cause the kernel to become unstable and 1 time actually caused a kernel panic. That's not your normal use case but still should not happen. Just to rule out my hardware, I connected the USB webcam to a Fedora box which is a completely different machine with totally different hardware and the same exact errors occur. The bug reports below outline the same errors, and beneath those links are a copy/paste of what I found in journalctl. Sometime there are no errors at all, other times there are. IIRC if I am in a VOIP app like Mumble and unplug the mic (yet not transmitting) the errors can start spewing out. It comes and goes. I possess several audio CDs that I ripped in the past. I have a mp3 version and an ogg version of the tracks. It is speech so you can note the speed particularly well. Up to leap everything was fine, the files are older about 5 years old. But since I installed leap I was baffled by a "phenomenon" hitting as it seems ogg files. The are reproduced ca 1.5 times speedier in Amarok and 1.25 times speedier in VLC. I can only guess speed, I think in Amarok it is even faster as the women have the "Mickey Mouse" factor. The VLC problem is solved by hitting twice "slightly slower" when you reach normal. In case there is the mp3 version available, the problem does not seem to be there or it is not apparent enough to let me note it. I am using the packman versions codecs but I have also leap with opensuse ones and Tumbleweed and.....astonishingly it is the very same. So this hits here leap and tumbleweed, amarok (a lot) and vlc (less). On a AMD 64 plattform with nvidia and on a laptop with intel 915. ironlake. What could that be? Is that already known or should I open a bug. In Amarok as I cannot use ogg anymore that is a hindrance. In VLC I can regulate the speed so that mitigates it a bit. I will suppose it does not make a difference. In 13.2 you find a section of kdm settings in system settings of kde. In leap that corresponds to sddm and the access screen menu. You go to advanced (you need to have the root password for this, so I hope you have it under hand). The selection is a bit weird in kdm because you are actually selecting the user that you do want not to see at login. I think there is a menu point too where you can invert this behavior, but I do have leap and sddm here. Hope that helps. P.S. as you are using kdm, check that settings for it are respected and that it doesn't listen on 6001 etc with the x-server. (netstat -tulpn is your friend). Why: To make kodi play nice with Google Chrome (for Netflix) I prefer to run Kodi on Openbox. But after install I have both a "Kodi" and a "Openbox" option in the login menu. [opensuse] Leap - default install - out of space?

All, I setup a test install of Leap in a VM. Using BTRFS as per default. My first experience with BTRFS. This is purely for Leap experimentation so I hope 32GB is plenty. I accepted the default partition setup with a 32 GB drive. I have 100GB free on the underlying hypervisor filesystem, so that should not be an issue and I can easily re-install if the partition setup is just wrong. Per "df -h" I have a couple GB of freespace in / (root) and 16GB free in /home. But when I try to do anything I'm told I'm out of diskspace. Is this really how Leap is supposed to work? Not exactly user friendly. What is the immediate fix? Is there a long term fix? I did not even know I have ogg123 and sox "play". How nice. So I will try that too (on both TW and leap) with the stopwatch too and will report back on that too. Thank you very much for this input indeed. Originally these files where extracted via k3b (using lame I think, but I am not sure. It was the default for creating ogg). You may not have to buy a new computer. Think about these first: Use another cable, often the ones with clutches have issues (that give such a wake up signal). Try to change plug of the monitor. If it has a DVI and HDMI use the other one (maybe with an adapter) if available. If you find that the graphics card has another plug, try that first too. It could also be a mechanical problem. Before buying another monitory, try these first. Sure, cables are so expensive that they cost more than some monitors (I have noticed that mismatch and disproportionate prices for quite some time now). [opensuse] chrome crashes kwin_x11 in plasma5 42.1

This has happened several times, but it does not always happen. If I use chrome (my preferred browser) to look at something in the course of my work, at some point suddenly kwin_x11 will crash and all my screen navigation in plasma5 will cease. The title bars disappear from all my open applications, and I am not able to switch desktops or navigate to a new application. This is what I do when it crashes like this. I hit ctrl-esc to open the resources monitor. Using that, I stop chrome (which has like 5 or 6 processes associated it, but one click kills it all in the resources monitor). On the resources monitor, the process for kwin_x11 says "stopped". I cannot kill it for some reason with the resources monitor. So then I hit alt-f2 and type in konsole. I do a > ps ax | grep kwin and find the pid for kwin_xll. I have to kill it with > kill -9 <pid> as kill all by itself won't do it. Then I hit alt-f2 again and type in kwin_x11 to restart it, and it restarts, and my desktop is back up and running, and I didn't have to exit out of all my applications. So it works, but it is a pain in the neck, and basically chrome is unusable. Anyone have any ideas? I see suse enterprise updates multitudes of kernel updates there in the recent days or even weeks. None for leap. What gives? Is leap so badly neglected that we dont deserve security? Or will we get newer 4.1.x release combined with the security fixage? If my PC goes sleeping, systemd-sleep-grub does not call grub2-once any-more. This causes failing sleep mode entry (hibernate), if the running kernel is not the default kernel. I see, that /usr/bin/systemd-sleep-grub is a shell script and some logging can be found in Systemd journal. But logging is not very detailed. What is a good strategy to debug the script? [opensuse] Monitor Wakes Up Randomly

Hi, On TW Snapshot 20160121, I have an issue on my desktop PC where my ASUS VH242 monitor wakes up at random times after it goes to sleep. I'll set it, for instance, to go to sleep after 5 minutes in the Energy Saving section of Plasma 5's System Settings. For multiple days straight, it will go to sleep and stay asleep. Then, for whatever reason, one day the monitor will wake up within minutes of going to sleep, go back to sleep again, and continue cycling on and off, so I eventually just press the power button but this poses a problem if I'm not present. [opensuse] Bootup of Luks partitions not waiting long for Password

I've got a 13.2 installation that for some reason some time ago started waiting a real short time for passwords on the Plymouth screen (or at least the Plymouth wallpaper) for a password for the Luks encrypted partition. I have to hover over the keyboard waiting for that prompt to come up and type it really quick or it boots without my home partition mounted. I thought it was /etc/crypttab where the delay was set, but this appears to be ignored. There are a few bug reports but they appear full of arguing back and forth and nobody has a clue.
