[opensuse] xbindkeys ??
I am recent to OpenSUSE. I noticed that there's no "xbindkeys" app? Am I missing something or am I looking in the wrong place for the RPM? Thanks! Why do you need it? :-? Anyway, you can obtain if from some extra repos: https://software.opensuse.org/package/xbindkeys I'd suggest "X11:Utilities"
Thanks!

LOL. You should not post those things to a mailing list. And even if you weren't, it is a null clause. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
Thanks, this is perfect. On 01/29/16 07:31, Carlos E. R. wrote:

Sorry about that. I cannot do anything about it, our SMTP server adds it if it cannot find the phrase in an email. -e On 01/29/16 12:23, Emilio Recio wrote:

I was afraid that would be the case. So, as it is below, quoted, it does not add it fresh - well, that's some advancement :-)

Yeah, I have to use their mail server, because I am behind a corporate firewall. So smtp/smtps is blocked. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Perhaps it would help if you told us what you were trying to achieve that needed xbindkeys. It might help, also, if you told us what desktop manager you were using. The desktop managers try to give a better UI and API and set of management utilities than 'raw" X11. For example, I'm a KDE user and the systemsettings program offers a "shortcuts and gestures" option where I can set keybindings. These can be global or they can be specific to a program. I see, googling for this, that some people use xbindkeys for setting mouse buttons. I have a Logitech mouse which, according to the data sheet, has 12 buttons-functions. That's a bit overwhelming since I'm not a game player! I have the excess over a 3-button 2-d scroller mapped simply for page manipulation. Once again in KDE I can do that without resorting to xbindkeys. I also have a "multi-media keyboard". I got it cheap when I needed a USB keyboard, thank you Goodwill. It has a cluster of buttons for volume, stop/start, next/prev. I don't use them. There's also a cluster for preset applications. Great, I suppose, if you are a Windows users who has been dumbed down. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/murphy/why-many-mcses-wont-learn-linux/1137 I'm sure people here who use other DMs can advise you on key binding in those. Finally, I get to wonder "why bother?" I look at the list in kde systemsettings, I look at the what you can do with xbindkeys, and I think MEMORY OVERLOAD!! My memory holds about 50 commands (think seven squared, thank you George Armitage Miller). Anything that requires something I'm not familiar with, anything more than that, then I use 'apropos' and 'man', or perhaps google, as I've done to find out about xbindkeys. perhaps you're one of those people with a great memory, infinite recall. I'm not. perhaps you're one of those people who believe in minimising the number of key strokes. I'm not. I believe in the words of Norbert Wiener, the computer is there to serve us, not the other way round. So, its back to: WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO ACHIEVE? https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/extragear-utils/krusader/key_bindings.html http://askubuntu.com/questions/107879/bind-keys-to-actions-in-kde-4 -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Not the OP, but an interested party. What about those of us who don't use a desktop manager and find fighting with xmodmap, xev, etc. more than a bit frustrating, especially when trying to get "composed" keybindings working easily. I've not looked into xbindkeys yet, but I've put it on my list of things to check out to see how much it helps me resolve such matters more easily than I've been able to google/test/hack/swear-at before. But yeah, I'm also curious about exactly which problems (and their context) the OP wanted to solve. fvwm2 is a window manager just like any of the others. Its a Desktop Manager as well, there being no difference between a DM and a WM other than degrees. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Sure... certainly no argument that it is a WM, but it is quite unlike Gnome or KDE. My understanding was that a DM was a graphical login screen (usually invoked at runlevel 5, rather than 3) and which then spawned whatever WM or desktop environment (e.g. KDE) the user configured. No "kids" nor "lawns". Sorry if I stepped on someone's toes. you can use startx in runlevel 3 just fine. Desktop/Window Manager determines how your system is displayed and key-combinsations and dressing on app windows and .... normally X would run in runlevel 5/ graphical.target, but it *will* run in runlevel 3 and I don't know how systemd calls a graphical interface running outside graphical.target.

I wonder if it is in the user name. You have a "c" in yours, making it German I assume. Mine is the Brit version without the "c", but I also really like FVWM2:-) I wish there were more of us. Hungarian Jew. One of the Hapsburg Emperors decreed that all Jews in the empire had to have German surnames. So... German spelling not anglo.
