I am recent to OpenSUSE.
What were you using before?
I noticed that there's no "xbindkeys" app? Am I missing something or am I looking in the wrong place for the RPM?
Perhaps it would help if you told us what you were trying to achieve that needed xbindkeys. It might help, also, if you told us what desktop manager you were using. The desktop managers try to give a better UI and API and set of management utilities than 'raw" X11. For example, I'm a KDE user and the systemsettings program offers a "shortcuts and gestures" option where I can set keybindings. These can be global or they can be specific to a program. I see, googling for this, that some people use xbindkeys for setting mouse buttons. I have a Logitech mouse which, according to the data sheet, has 12 buttons-functions. That's a bit overwhelming since I'm not a game player! I have the excess over a 3-button 2-d scroller mapped simply for page manipulation. Once again in KDE I can do that without resorting to xbindkeys. I also have a "multi-media keyboard". I got it cheap when I needed a USB keyboard, thank you Goodwill. It has a cluster of buttons for volume, stop/start, next/prev. I don't use them. There's also a cluster for preset applications. Great, I suppose, if you are a Windows users who has been dumbed down. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/murphy/why-many-mcses-wont-learn-linux/1137 I'm sure people here who use other DMs can advise you on key binding in those. Finally, I get to wonder "why bother?" I look at the list in kde systemsettings, I look at the what you can do with xbindkeys, and I think MEMORY OVERLOAD!! My memory holds about 50 commands (think seven squared, thank you George Armitage Miller). Anything that requires something I'm not familiar with, anything more than that, then I use 'apropos' and 'man', or perhaps google, as I've done to find out about xbindkeys. perhaps you're one of those people with a great memory, infinite recall. I'm not. perhaps you're one of those people who believe in minimising the number of key strokes. I'm not. I believe in the words of Norbert Wiener, the computer is there to serve us, not the other way round.
