[opensuse] Why is Leap x86_64 only?

All, Why is Leap x86_64 only? What is the technical reason openSuSE cannot build i586 packages as well. I would expect to see the "We don't want you anymore" kiss-off to i586 from the bleeding edge distros well before openSuSE. Arch (the bleeding edge) still packages i686 on the 4.2 kernel, so it isn't a "can't be done issue". Why now? -- David C. [opensuse] Developing Leap 42.1 Info

The release date for Leap 42.1 is approaching and to make this release is as successful as the last, we could sure use your help. There are several things we can do as a community to improve awareness of Leap both inside and outside of the Free and Open Source Software community. I kindly ask everyone involved with the openSUSE project to update the wiki in preparation for the release at https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:42.1. Our last release, 13.2, was very successful and it would be great if we can replicate that effort by updating the information for 42.1, so it looks similar to https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:13.2 Developers, packages maintainers and anyone else knowledgeable about what has changed in the new versions could add information to https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Major_features42.1, which we can use to replace https://en.opensuse.org/Features on the day of the release. Screenshots are also important and anyone can do it! Just help replace the 13.2 screenshots on https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:42.1/Screenshots/1 page with Leap 42.1 screenshots. It will replace the https://en.opensuse.org/Screenshots page on Nov. 4 with the updated screenshots. Media - Please retweet, +1 or share all info related to the release of Leap 42.1. [opensuse] zypper and yast update issues on 13.1

A day or so ago it seemed lots of certificates on openSUSE, as well as packman, needed to be updated. I allowed this. But after doing so I cannot install anything from anywhere. I get messages like the following: Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: warning: /var/cache/zypp/packages/repo-oss/suse/i586/filesystem-13.1-3.1.2.i586.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA256 Signature, key ID 3dbdc284: NOKEY I did a 'zypper clean -a', and then once again allowed the certificates to be used. But the problem persists. Since I have not seen anyone else with this problem, I am guessing something on my system is messed up. But I am not sure what, nor am I sure how to fix it. I thought I might try something like zypper --no-gpg-checks in mypackage, but the message persisted. I am perhaps barking up the wrong tree. Hello, openSUSE 13.2 TW I had initially crafted a script that would spawn a ssh-agent on login and ask for my passphrase till I noticed they are two ssh-agent processes running. One spawned by the script that I wrote and another spawned by dbus-launch. See below: /usr/bin/dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/gpg-agent --sh --daemon --keep-display --write-env-file /home/lhorace/.gnupg/agent.info-linux-0egw:0 /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc So for, running find and grep, "find / -mount -type f -exec grep -Iq 'dbus-launch' {} \; -and -print". [opensuse] Blank screen with intel driver on Lenovo IdeaPad305

Hi, I am trying to get OpenSuse 13.2 to run on Lenovo IdeaPad305-15. It uses intel 915 driver for X11. As soon as it boots X, the screen goes blanc. I am guessing the backlight gets turned off, because I can see the outlines of the login box very faintly. There are no obvious error and warning messages in the logs. I tried several recipes from the internet to get everything to start. If I use "nomodeset" option to boot, X does not start at all. "acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor" still results in blank screen. The only way I can boot is by using "nomodeset x11failsafe" option, which means that a vesa driver is used. What else can I do to get the intel driver to boot? [opensuse] Intermittent problem with pulseaudio (OS 13.1/13.2)

Hi, I've always had a bad luck with pulseaudio (probably because my HW - onboard VIA VT1708S). So for many years I've been installing pulseaudio with each new release of OS and then removing it after it stopped working for me. But after skype switched to "pulse-only" mode it is not an option anymore. In the two latest releases of OS it behaves a bit better, but still from time to time I find that after turning on the machine pulseaudio loses the correct configuration. The only sink shown is dummy output. My current workaround is to disable pulseaudio in YaST HW-> Sound and then re-enable it again. In most cases after that the pulse re-gains correct configuration. (Sometimes I need to do it a couple of times, killing applications I've seen the advice on Arch WIKI to check with fuser -v /dev/snd/* who is using sound devices, but in the "bad" case it's only kmix (I'm using KDE3). In the good case there are both kmix and pulseaudio. It is quite annoying... [opensuse] Seeking suggestions about good laptop configuration

Hi, I am planning to buy a new laptop, which must have 15" screen. I just want a very good speed and productive one. I do build web applications and do write lot of code and different DB also I need to have and lot of other stuffs. That's why I am looking for some suggestions before going to buy it. Please some suggest me some models which you think enough enough to work happily with SUSE 13.2 or the new one UPCOMING version 41 +. Thanks in advance to all of you.
