[opensuse] Install troubles on E-machine EL1352 with Compaq FP745A monitor

All my trials to install the last four snapshots or 13.2 ended after the restart in a green screen with a rectangle with two maps; 'home' and 'thrash'. I could than create some other rectangles but no progress. What is going wrong? [opensuse] How to network with a VM?

Hi, I'm running GNOME on openSUSE 13.2 with all updates. Using yast, I have set up a KVM hypervisor, and installed opensuse 13.2 in a VM. Using virt-manager I can run the VM and interact with its GUI. I can open a browser in the guest and surf the net. So far so good. Now I want to SSH into the VM, and I can't figure out how to do it. sshd is running in the guest, its firewall is disabled, and its IP-address is 10.0.2.15. Yet, trying to ssh to connect to that address doesn't work. What do I need to do to be able to contact a server process in the VM from the host? [opensuse] libreoffice calc/spreadsheet active cell bored color

Hello: How can I change the color of the "active" cell's border in libreoffice calc? Currently it is black but I want it to be blue. I have black borders between groups of cells and I want a different color for the active cell. I googled for it but could find an answer. I trie to run the last snapshots on my e-machine with no succes. My e-machine EL1352 has a NVIDIA GE Force 6150 nforce 430 videocard and an AMD Athlon II 160 u 1800 MHz CPU. Is that sufficient for operating Tumbleweed? If not; what will be sufficient? [opensuse] Brother w/ Epson printer language support?; &?OT/admin

Mailing lists have been so low in volume I've wondered if it's the USA holiday, broken internet, a fluke, or something else. I'm a subscriber to over 70 mailing lists. Mondays are usually the busiest day of the week, typically well over 500 inbound. This one was no more than half normal for a Monday, across the board. My 68 month old Canon is now curbside in pieces in two garbage cans waiting for trash pickup, dead after not having used up one complete toner cartridge. I only bought it because right on the box it had "Linux" in its supported OS list. Little idea did I have what that really meant - never again Canon. Anyone own a laser Brother MF of any type, and know if it, or any Brothers, support the Epson 9-pin (FX, IIRC) printer language, as Brothers of yore (all?/mostly?) did. Something no HP ever did AFAIK, and AFAIK no Canon ever did, was support the printer language I learned when Lotus 1-2-3 was at v1.0. I still have spreadsheets with embedded printer codes. I would *like* to be able to print some of them on occasion without having to dig an Epson-supported parallel port dot matrix printer out of the cobwebs, rejuvenate its ribbon, boot DOS, and wait 10 minutes per page in order to get pseudo-satisfactory printer output of the plain text, plus Epson printer control codes (font selection, margin, page length, etc.), that they contain. Converting the spreadsheet themselves is not a practical option, because they are Quattro Pro for DOS native format, which AFAIk nothing imports, while exporting from QPD is limited to WK1 format, which loses far too much via the export process. What I have been doing is printing to a text file, loading it in web browser, and scaling until the overall width approximates sane, which typically wastes 5-15 sheets of paper figuring out each time, and rarely gets the margins or line spacing close to optimal. [opensuse] sloth cloning HD

Yesterday, several times using different ports, cables and eSATA enclosures, I tried using DFSee[1] to clone from a 320G Seagate to a 500G ST31000526SV (SV35 Surveillance series; firmware CV15; refurb acquired 5 weeks ago) Seagate. Each time, progress was horrifically slow, something like 2% in 20 minutes, and if I let it run long enough, forecasting 14+ hours to complete. I've been using DFSee for over a decade. It's far friendlier than dd. Finally I decided to just let it run to completion to see how long it would take. It's still not done. Fdisk (Knoppix 7.4, kernel 3.16.3, util-linux-2.20.1; openSUSE 12.3 & up are on the source HD) reports this to be a 512 byte sector HD, as does the Seagate PDF. Seatools long test gave it an OK. Dmesg reports nothing I recognize as out of the ordinary, but the clone is currently over 15 hours into process and reporting ETA of nearly 7 hours. I've taken smartctl -x reports before and during the clone. I'm setting up a server to run a ruby-on-rails app, but openSUSE 13.2 seems to be missing 'passenger'? I installed 'passenger' from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/languages:/ruby:/extension… Then I tried installing rubygem-rails: # zypper in rubygem-rails Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... Hi Marco, If your setup is like mine, you have one display connected through the card's HDMI port and the other connected through the VGA (or DVI) port, correct? Have you invoked On Screen Display (OSD) in each external display side by side to ensure that they are configured _exactly_ the same? Does the problem persist if you swap just the displays left <> right? In KDE, Applications > Configure Desktop, under Hardware I have: Display and Monitor > Screen Locker: [x] Start automatically after 10 minutes type: [x] Screen saver > "Blank Screen" Power Management > Energy Saving > On AC Power: [x] Screen Brightness (set to maximum) [ ] Screen Energy Saving (not enabled) I suspect that when the 'migration' has occurred that KDE has interpreted 'power save mode' in your 'right' display as it having been disconnected. This could be caused by a disparity in the way that 'power save mode' is handled on the VGA/DVI side vs. HDMI. Maybe a good place to start is to turn off all power saving features, in KDE as well as in the displays (if so equipped,) and to also disable the screen saver. Once this has been accomplished, both displays will simply stay on all of the time (and the window 'migrations' will be avoided.)
