If you aren't booted from rescue media, what's already in MBR and EBR apparently works, sleeping dogs that do not need disturbing. "Bootloader update" can be either or both of two things: 1-binary "installation" or "setup" 2-configuration (boot menuing) Of course, the latter needs changing with every kernel change, unless relying exclusively on symlinks, which most distros including openSUSE do not by default, if ever, attempt to do. All I know about BTRFS is it's too new for me to want to touch. There is probably a lot on opensuse-factory mailing list I miss because of skipping many threads based purely on $SUBJECT. It *is* working "at all" now, no? You're getting a grub> prompt and getting kernel and initrd to successfully boot your 13.1 installation, no? If true, this seems to me like the above-referenced bug has caused Grub Legacy to be installed (aka setup) on MBR (and/or PBR???) without any corresponding menu configuration. It needs /boot/grub/menu.lst, not /boot/grub2/grub.cfg. I think you'll find you have both Grub Legacy and Grub2 rpms installed, as is normal even in TW. Has its tail managed to roll into your swap partition? Why isn't your swap partition labeled as swap by fdisk, or is it actually an M$ partition? [opensuse] Dual Administrative Access?

Hi Folks, I'm stumped on this one. I've been asked to configure an area in a filesystem that enforces the concept of requiring two users to agree to remove files from that area. Someone suggested using SeLinux, a system I know very little about. Does anyone know how to require the permission of two logged-in users to remove a file or directory? [opensuse] Install troubles on E-machine EL1352 with Compaq FP745A monitor

All my trials to install the last four snapshots or 13.2 ended after the restart in a green screen with a rectangle with two maps; 'home' and 'thrash'. I could than create some other rectangles but no progress. What is going wrong? [opensuse] How to network with a VM?

Hi, I'm running GNOME on openSUSE 13.2 with all updates. Using yast, I have set up a KVM hypervisor, and installed opensuse 13.2 in a VM. Using virt-manager I can run the VM and interact with its GUI. I can open a browser in the guest and surf the net. So far so good. Now I want to SSH into the VM, and I can't figure out how to do it. sshd is running in the guest, its firewall is disabled, and its IP-address is 10.0.2.15. Yet, trying to ssh to connect to that address doesn't work. What do I need to do to be able to contact a server process in the VM from the host? Hello: How can I change the color of the "active" cell's border in libreoffice calc? Currently it is black but I want it to be blue. I have black borders between groups of cells and I want a different color for the active cell. I googled for it but could find an answer. I trie to run the last snapshots on my e-machine with no succes. My e-machine EL1352 has a NVIDIA GE Force 6150 nforce 430 videocard and an AMD Athlon II 160 u 1800 MHz CPU. Is that sufficient for operating Tumbleweed? If not; what will be sufficient? [opensuse] Brother w/ Epson printer language support?; &?OT/admin

Mailing lists have been so low in volume I've wondered if it's the USA holiday, broken internet, a fluke, or something else. I'm a subscriber to over 70 mailing lists. Mondays are usually the busiest day of the week, typically well over 500 inbound. This one was no more than half normal for a Monday, across the board. My 68 month old Canon is now curbside in pieces in two garbage cans waiting for trash pickup, dead after not having used up one complete toner cartridge. I only bought it because right on the box it had "Linux" in its supported OS list. Little idea did I have what that really meant - never again Canon. Anyone own a laser Brother MF of any type, and know if it, or any Brothers, support the Epson 9-pin (FX, IIRC) printer language, as Brothers of yore (all?/mostly?) did. Something no HP ever did AFAIK, and AFAIK no Canon ever did, was support the printer language I learned when Lotus 1-2-3 was at v1.0. I still have spreadsheets with embedded printer codes. I would *like* to be able to print some of them on occasion without having to dig an Epson-supported parallel port dot matrix printer out of the cobwebs, rejuvenate its ribbon, boot DOS, and wait 10 minutes per page in order to get pseudo-satisfactory printer output of the plain text, plus Epson printer control codes (font selection, margin, page length, etc.), that they contain. Converting the spreadsheet themselves is not a practical option, because they are Quattro Pro for DOS native format, which AFAIk nothing imports, while exporting from QPD is limited to WK1 format, which loses far too much via the export process. What I have been doing is printing to a text file, loading it in web browser, and scaling until the overall width approximates sane, which typically wastes 5-15 sheets of paper figuring out each time, and rarely gets the margins or line spacing close to optimal.
