[opensuse] KDE 4.14.0 in KDE:Current and a look to the future

HI openSUSE KDE user. At this moment the KDE:Current repository is almost finished building the latest KDE SC 4.14.0 release and the expectation is that the repositories will be published very soon. It could take still some time before the KDE:Extra repository catches up. With a look to the future, KDE Upstream has decided that 4.14 will be the last KDE 4 Applications release and that after that they would switch (at least for a while) to application releases where applications are either kdelibs4 based or KF5 based. The naming for these Application releases would be KDE Applications $YEAR.$MONTH and the next one planned would be KDE Applications 14.12 and it is unknown which applications will be switching to KF5 for that particular release. For KDE:Current users, this would mean that the repository will remain kdelibs4 based and that we will just update those applications that are still kdelibs4 based. Other packages will remain on their respective latest versions. In practice this will also mean that packages will deviate in their version number (similar to what is already the situation with kdebase4-workspace). What the situation will be for KDE:Distro:Factory and openSUSE:Factory itself is not yet clear, but I would imagine that we would still remain with a default kdelibs4 based desktop and trying to ship as many kf5 applications as possible for those that want to switch. The version shipped in KDE:Current will be revisited as soon as all KDE applications are KF5 based. In all honesty I would like to avoid a setup where we would have a KDE3, KDE4 and KF5 repository. As per the subject, IMHO this is the list: 1) BLUETOOTH doesn't works completely 2) Power Management "sucks" with laptops 3) Totem warnings the user to download plug-ins which are not necessary or which cannot get downloaded and installed I consider all the above as limitations in a modern O.S. I tried it with both the internal and external wireless on of off NO GO. Now testing with external switch set to off. It was set to on before and still no wireless. [opensuse] can gimp learn to activate windows in a normal way?

Hello I like gimp. But it's behavior with windows is weird and different to all other programs (I use KDE4): After opening a gimp window the focus remains in the program from where I opened it and does not change to gimp. Concrete: I open an image from a list in dolphin. I want to select all the image (ctr-a), but instead I select all the list in dolphin.... To select the image I must must click in the window, precisely on the border of the window (otherwise I activate the last tool, which leads to even more clicks....). As I work with two large screens, I must move a lot with the mouse. It is quite annoying. In a day I move my mouse "kilometers" for nothing. Something unnecessary that *only* gimp forces me. Is there a possibility to tell gimp to behave normal with its windows, just as if it was any other program? Thanks for hints! I build TDE for Archlinux, so I'm familiar with the kde3 codebase, the only challenge for opensuse/kde3 is the how/where to setup a project to do it. [opensuse] okular: a regression of kpdf?

In KDE4 there is no kpdf, there is okular instead. If I copy text from a pdf file to the clipboard in okular, it gives gibberish text, messes up the lines and inserts | signs and multiple spaces between words . I have to edit the text, which is more cumbersome than typing it manually. Is this normal? I never had such a problem in kdpf. If I copy text from the same file to the clipboard in kpdf (the latest stable version was released on August 26 2008) the copied text is OK. There are no | signs and multiple spaces between words, and the line order is maintained as well. So we don't have either adobe reader or kpdf in openSUSE 13.1 by the default KDE4 or gnome. Does openSUSES 13.1 have a pdf viewer that works as good as adobe reader or kpdf? [opensuse] PIM Broken in 4.14.0

All, Has anyone else installed KDE 4.14.0 from Factory for openSUSE 13.1. I just found the PIM is broken and requires an Akonadi protocol upgrade. "The server protocol version is 37, but at least version 44 is required. Install a newer version of the Akonadi server." The error message above is generated with attempting to start KMail.
