[opensuse] Curl errors in opensuse 12 and 13

Hi Does anyone know why i always get "curl" errors using "zypper" or Yast to refresh/ update the repos? Its random as to which repos fails. see example below I don't ever recall this happening prior to opensuse 12. [opensuse] SuSE 13.1: Evince: Top menus broken

I have an obvious error in the menu of Evince: http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/evincebugqx3fjckpil.jpg Any pointers what that could be? Any changed icon directories in OpenSuSE 13.1 ? Mouse over of course works. On SuSE 12.1 evince was working without problems. [opensuse] Firefox memory leak

For quite some time, and across a couple versions of OpenSuse (13.1 currently) I've had terrible problems with Firefox. It displays the usual memory leak problems that programs often show, getting slower and slower until it becomes unresponsive until I kill it and restart. Sometimes it happens within minutes of restarting, so I think it's related to whatever technology the web pages are using. I just did one of those FaceBook polls where you select radio buttons, and that one stopped Firefox dead in it's tracks. Over the past year, I've upgraded Firefox through official channels. [opensuse] Bashism - Seeking input on filenames that contain non-printing control characters (examples)

All, An issue recently came up on StackOverflow.com regarding shell scripts related to the use of 'ls -opts' to populate a loop structure in a shell script. Suffice it to say *in sum*, it is good practice to avoid this use of ls and to search for an alternative solution to fit your needs. That being so, there are some cases where the loop needs data in a sort order fashion, easily provided by ls, but requiring tortured, piped multiple external calls otherwise. The tweenies (those that 'know not' and 'know not' that they 'know not') took the position that simply mentioning ls as a method to feed a loop automatically condemned you to roast in hell for eternity. (despite TLDP BASH HowTo being riddled with examples) Those that 'know', said wait a minute, it is a portability issue, and the problems protected against are just those instances where non-printing control characters are embedded in the filename, such as a newline, carriage-return or null-terminating character inside the filename itself. Taking the position that if you know the set of filenames at issue does not contain any embedded nonsense (like daily server logs, etc.), then there are no other hidden adverse effects from using ls in this capacity. Certainly you would not be condemned to hell or have your eyes plucked out by dragons if you did. So that brings up the question: "Just which files do have embedded control characters (intentionally, and not as the result of some horrible mistake)?" The only example I have uncovered thus far is the OSX 'icon' file that has a 'carriage-return' intentionally embedded as part of the filename. What others have you run across or can think of? I could think of no better or more experienced group to consult that the good old "brain-trust". So just how prevalent are these filenames with embedded control characters? -- David C. Hello, Just installed factory dvd (on virtualbox), default is BTRFS and *lots* of partitions/volumes. any *simple* pointer to some clues about how to deal with it? For those who may wish to install the gogoCLIENT for an IPv6 tunnel, I've posted this article: http://www.gogo6.com/forum/topics/installing-gogoclient-on-linux The client can be run in three different modes, anonymous, static address and subnet. The anonymous and static modes provide a single IPv6 address and the subnet mode provides 2^72 address, which is about a trillion times the entire IPv4 address space. The static address and subnet modes require setting up an account, but anonymous mode doesn't. There is also a Windows client available. [opensuse] Directory becomes executable file - openSUSE 13.1

I'm trying to compile a gogoc client, something I have done successfully a few times before. However, this time I get an error: /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.8/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lstdc++ After searching with Google, it appears the required file is libstdc++.so, which is located in /usr/lib64. According to the error, as far as I can tell, it's not looking in the appropriate directory. I started tracing the links: /usr/x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld to /usr/bin/ld to /etc/alternatives/ld to /usr/bin/ld.bfd which appears to be an executable file How did we manage to get from what's supposed to be a directory at /usr/x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld to an executable at /usr/bin/ld.bfd???
