[opensuse] KDED vanishing upon fallover to laptop battery power

Hello people, Using the default KDE 4.11.5 with a 13.1 (64-bit) install (all updates applied), I'm having power issues at my new appartment and every time the power cuts, a few odd things happen with my desktop. This is a laptop with a well charged battery, so everything keeps running, but all the systray icons revert from their monochrome default to the old coloured versions, and a couple of auto-hidden items become visible in the tray. My keyboard layout control in this tray disappears along with the possibility to change it via the shortcuts I've set. I noticed that in the Battery Monitor settings, I can't view or change anything because it complains that Power Management isn't running, and that I should go and check that in the Startup/Shutdown options. These options in System Settings cannot be displayed either because it says KDED is not running. There's been numerous power cuts every time I try to switch on my hot plates and cook something so I'm getting used to this now, but I don't know how to restart KDED in such a way that all these settings will return to normal, so I'm forced to reboot each time. [opensuse] systemd-logind fails after update of dbus etc

Yesterday I installed all the patches on a 13.1 system, which I turn on about once or twice a week. I recall that after the update I had to reexec systemd and restart dbus and the services that depend on it, but systemd-logind failed to restart, which probably caused other services to fail, too. Perhaps some timeout occurred or restarting xdm was related, and the issue disappeared after a while. Now, after booting this system, the message: Failed to open private bus connection: Failed to connect to socket /run/user/0/dbus/user_bus_socket: No such file or directory appears in the system log. Is it related to the previous errors? Has anyone else seen any of this? [opensuse] Update of aaa_base removes permissions to /dev/null, again!

Hello, a long time ago (opensuse-11.1), I experienced a problem with permissions of /dev/null beeing set to 0600 when aaa_base package is updated. The whole discussion about that issue can be found at http://marc.info/?t=123642237800003&r=1&w=2 http://marc.info/?l=opensuse&m=123671162813621&w=2 suggests that the bug has been fixed. Unfortunately, Ruediger's original message don't seem to be archived anywhere on the net. "Canvas" is an extension available for Firefox from what I saw on the Mozilla site. And, naturally, it is to be used with "your friend" google. Researchers found one in 18 of the world’s top 100,000 websites track users without their consent using a technique known as ‘canvas fingerprinting.’ In total, 5,619 sites including the White House and Perez Hilton are known to feature plugins that obtain details about a user’s browser, web history and computer. The mechanism, called ‘canvas fingerprinting’, uses special scripts – the coded instructions that tell a browser how to render a website - to exploit the browser’s so-called ‘canvas’. The canvas is a browser tool that can be used to draw images and render text. When a user visits a website with canvas fingerprinting software, the plugin tells the user’s browser to print an invisible string of text on this canvas. [opensuse] 13.1 - Install -additional- kernel (best way, rpm/yast)

All, As part of https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=887629 we need to install and test the latest kernel:stable kernel. Adding the repo in yast and checking, it does not show the -devel files to know that I am getting the same kernel setup I have with the kernel from 13.1/update. Also, I do *NOT* want to replace my current kernel, I simply want to install in-addition-to the current kernel. multiversion is set to include kernel in zypp.conf. I also have a question about the automatic menu-generation for grub2. I guess it will work, but I have not yet tried a kernel addition in opensuse with grub2. Any gotchas? That brings me to the real issue. In yast sw-management, when I select update for the various kernel packages, how can I confirm that it will install and leave the current kernel? Just rely on the multiverion setting, cross-fingers and pray? Would it just be better to install with 'rpm -ivh *.rpm' in a directory with the updated kernel packages? This seems like the simplest way. [opensuse] desktop apps are looking very odd and color less.

Hi, I am not able to find out, any way to configure my desktop application window normal colorful as they look in other OS like Ubuntu, Mac etc. For me any app siderbar, upper bar all are white, and it looks very odd to me. All, I know for most opensuse packages, the version is set for a release at some point during development and then only patches are provided. But for some, it seems like would makes sense to provide version updates along the way. Regarding systemd, what is interesting is that 210 is the latest version in any of the unstable repos (according to software.opensuse.org) With 215 you get: systemctl: -M --machine=CONTAINER Operate on local container -r --recursive Show unit list of host and local containers --reverse Show reverse dependencies with 'list-dependencies' --job-mode=MODE Specify how to deal with already queued jobs, when queueing a new job --show-types When showing sockets, explicitly show their type --preset-mode= Specifies whether fully apply presets, or only enable, or only disable --root=PATH Enable unit files in the specified root directory --plain Print unit dependencies as a list instead of a tree commands: list-timers [PATTERN...] List loaded timers ordered by next elapse cat PATTERN... Show files and drop-ins of one or more units file commands: preset-all Enable/disable all unit files based on Machine Commands: list-machines [PATTERN...] List local containers and host Environment Commands: import-environment NAME... Wow! This is a real beautiful, fast and full featured Desktop Environment which I do not understand why it is not being installed as default or among the default ones in OpenSUSE. I installed it with: sudo zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Cinnamon:/Factory/openSUSE_1… Cinnamon And it is wonderful!
