[opensuse] No sound in Minecraft

I've asked on the minecraft forums without a response so I'm trying here in case that it might be a SuSE configuration issue. I do not have sound in the game. This has been a problem for several versions nowCurently running 1.7.5. I've also tried the last 2 snapshots. I can play music fine and was able to play the sound files in .mineraft/assets/objects/* via Amarok. I have deleted the assets folder and had re-downloaded everything. I looked in the bug list and I found a few sound related issues, but they suggested that there was some sounds. The log only mentions minecraft:mob.witch.idle, but there are no sounds at all in game, but in options everything is set to 100%. I tried to force an older version in profile editor but still no sound going back to 1.4.2. I see a java Playback Stream in the mixer and volume is 100% there too. Any ideas? [opensuse] DenyHosts daemon mode on openSUSE 11.3

Hi, I am trying to run DenyHosts on OS 11.3. I can get it to sync and update the hosts.deny file, but with "rcdenyhosts status" it reports as being "unused" just after I started it with "rcdenyhosts start". I tried also with yast, setting up as a service (daemon) and starting it. It also stops immediately. In the denyhosts.log file there is no error info, just what it used to set it up at start. I've gone through the configs several times, no joy. [opensuse] running a program before shutdown

Hi everyone! I do have a small problem: I want to run unison before i log out of kde, so that my files are synchronized automatically. I created a .desktop file and placed it in /.kde4/shutdown/. The .desktop file is specified by the command: unison myprofile -batch I tried it, but it seems, that this doesn´t work, because nothing was synchronized after login in again. Although in the systemsettings in the category autostart, my .desktop is listed and set to logout. Any suggestions. Best Benjamin! ps.: I already tried it with a shell-scrpit, which i also placed in the shutdown folder, but this also didn´t work…

[opensuse] XFS filesystem total failure on return from hibernation.

XFS fails completely, lots of kernel messages. System has to be restarted, recovery is impossible otherwise. It seems to affect one partition only (?), the one that has my home, on xfs. I booted the 13.1 XFCE rescue image, tried to xfs-repair that one. It complained that there was a log, that I should attempt to mount it first. Mount hung. It is unkillable. Reboot of system hung. smartctl -a gives no hint of problem. The hard disk is new (190 hours). I run "xfs_repair -L" on that disk, which succeeds with no error report. I'm at the moment running the long SMART test on that disk. It will take 226 minutes. As per the subject, IMHO this is the list: 1) BLUETOOTH doesn't works completely 2) Power Management "sucks" with laptops 3) Totem warnings the user to download plug-ins which are not necessary or which cannot get downloaded and installed I consider all the above as limitations in a modern O.S. [opensuse] What is the "official" way to mount floppy in openSUSE 12.x?

Hello: The subject says the question. [In pre 12 suse versions I had a /media/floppy directory where the floppy could be mounted at (by using the floppy icon on KDE3's desktop). In 12.x there is no such directory, and if created it will be removed at next boot, as I know correctly. Of course I could make a floppy dir under / or somewhere else, but I'd prefer its location to be in /media, since floppy is a media. Why should it be then outside of media dir?] What is the official way of mounting floppy in 12.x.? I have openSUSE 12.1 with KDE3 currently. [opensuse] Baloo: Excessive Disk I/O

I'm not impressed with Baloo at all, in fact it's really slowing my computer down and KDE 4.13 so far has been a drag all because of Baloo. When running BOINC, Baloo constantly wants to index everything BOINC writes to the disk which is frequent. Yes, I can exclude the BOINC directory, but there's no GUI option for a new user to shut off Baloo which is ridiculous, and it's even more ridiculous that the KDE dev who designed this piece of crap won't put in a feature to shut this piece of malware off. The next thing that's pissing me off is that when downloading torrents, Baloo goes completely nuts and sucks 25% of one core when the torrents are going and causes an extreme amount of disk I/O. [opensuse] WiFi problem - laptop on/off switch

Hello listers, I have a laptop (HP dv2035us - pavillion) with both OS 11.2 and 11.4 installed. The wireless works in 11.2, but not in 11.4. It has an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945AG/BG chip. The laptop has a wireless on/off button at the front left. When I boot 11.2 (KDE) the wireless light does not come on, but then if I turn the wireless switch off and then back on again, the wireless light comes on and it works. However, on 11.4, the wireless will not work, even after playing with the switch. The stock 11.4 kernel, the regular updates nor updating to Evergreen 11.4 made no difference. Since the wireless light does not come on, ifconfig shows only lo and eth0 - no wlan0. The behavior with the on/off switch also used to happen when I had OS 10.3 on the machine. It was a bit annoying, but the wireless could be made to work. The wireless modules loaded at boot are - in 11.2: iwl3945, iwl_core, mac80211, cfg80211 in 11.4: iwl3945, iwl_legacy, mac80211, cfg80211 I suspect a missing package or configuration problem, and I have googled but I am visually impaired so I have not been exhaustive at it. I have looked at dmesg (nothing seems seriously off) but not other logs.
