I also had an OOM condition under KDE 4 not too long ago which caused me to come back to a completely unstable desktop and I had to hit the reset switch. If I leave my desktop up long enough, Xorg, kded4, and plasma-desktop start taking huge amounts of memory. [opensuse] OS13.1: Alt + drag conflict between LibreOffice Calc and KDE

Hi, When I try to move some cells in LibreOffice Calc I end up moving the whole window on the desktop instead. What happens is that in KDE, pressing the ALT key and then clicking anywhere on a window and moving the mouse results in moving the window. But ALT + drag a selection is also the way to move cells in a spreadsheet using Libreoffice Calc. As a result there is no way to quickly move a row in a spreadsheet other than for example 1/inserting a blank row, 2/cut'ing the row that one wants to move, 3/pasting the cut row into the blank row and 4/deleting the blank row left after the operation. I far prefer ALT + drag So is there a way to disable the ALT + drag window behaviour of KDE? I looked in details in "Shortcut and Gestures" under "Configure Desktop" but I could not find anything. [opensuse] OpenSuSE 13.1 on Dell 4400 and Intell

Seems GNOME version default from the install disk is the problem based upon clean installs on two different systems both with NVIDIA cards and the fact that the other window managers working correctly. Does 13.1 default to GNOME3 with all that 3D stuff??? Can I get GNOME2 for it? On openSUSE 13.1 x64 with KDE 4.11.5 and the "radeon" kernel driver, I have noticed that plasma-desktop increases in memory size the longer my desktop is up, and it crawls up over 200 MB easily when opening widgets. When closing widgets, activities, etc., the memory is not freed. Switching activities and creating new activities also does this. At the same time, Xorg can take over 400 MB of ram in less than a day, depending on what I am doing. kded4 also can start hogging ram as plasma-desktop increases its memory footprint. Logging in and out of KDE resolves the issue, but I shouldn't have to do this. On a Windows 7 machine, the OS can be up for weeks on end with no increase in memory usage of explorer.exe, etc. explorer.exe takes around 30 MB of ram and it never goes much beyond that. I would use a different desktop environment, but Gnome 3.x is absolutely atrocious and is just about as bad as Windows 8, and XFCE doesn't seem to a point where there's very much support...I don't want to be running a fringe desktop. I have filed numerous bug reports about this on Novell's Bugzilla as well as with KDE, and nobody is doing anything about it. I'm not the only one that has this issue. Is anyone else here experiencing this, and what's being done about it? Just add that repro, allow vendor change, (for one run only). I'm not seeing these leaks you claim to be finding, so I don't think you can lay that baby at KDE's door. My machine runs for days on end. I disagree with your statement that it is safe to say KDE 4 leaks. If It did, I'd be seeing symptoms. [opensuse] KDE3 screensaver does not start

Hello: I asked this before on the opensuse-kde3 list but I had no any repsonse. Therefor I ask it here, this list has more readers. I have KDE 3.5.10 in openSUSE 12.2. I have a problem with KDE3 screen saver activation. In the KDE control panel -> Appearance & Themes -> Screen Saver window the screen saver is set to: Blank screen, start automatically after 5 min. After logging in to my KDE3 desktop, the screen saver is not activated after 5 minutes of inactivity. If I go to KDE control panel -> Appearance & Themes -> Screen Saver window and untick and then tick back "start automatically", and press apply, the screen saver starts to work normally, it will be activated after 5 minutes of inactivity. (Please note that I did not change the settings). If I log out and log in again, the screen saver will not be activated. I compared config files in ~/.kde, ~/.config but there was no any difference before and after applying the "no-change". How could I fix this? What to look for? I even have no idea where to start. [opensuse] 13.1 reboot hangs

After updates last week I have a machine that now hangs when rebooting. The console reports: Reached target Shutdown reboot: Restarting system And thats it. It never (well, I only actually waited 60 hour) reboots. I'm guessing the console lines ... Failed unmounting /tmp and Failed unmounting /var ... have something to do with this, but I am at a loss as to how to proceed. Both machines have been running Windows 7 for at least some hours. [opensuse] How to use PHP 5.2 for some sites in 13.1

Hi, I have server currently running openSUSE 13.1, but I realised, that some sites (those build using Drupal 6) don't work properly with current PHP 5.4 available for 13.1. Is it possible to use PHP 5.2 for some webs? How?
