[opensuse] grub 2 core.img

I installed suse 13.1 on a ThinkPad T60 and it is working fine. Suse wiped out my legacy grub in the MBR and installed grub 2, which I don't like. My grub legacy uses menu.lst to boot any distro, grub 2 uses core.img to boot distros. Where is core.img? [opensuse] yast2 disk - Client call failed with key not found: :CT_UNKNOWN

I recently upgraded to 13.1 from 12.3. On both yast2 disk is failing to start. After answering yes to the standard warning popup dialog, yast2 disk terminates. If I run yast2 disk from the command line I see the following messages: Unknown config. Invalid snapshot ''. The first message is general and occurs whenever I start any yast2 module, but doesn't seem to be causing any issues. The second message occurs when yast2 disk terminates. This machine is anything but a fresh install, and has been upgraded through several releases and has also had a change in hostname. [opensuse] dd on an SD card gives: Read-only file system

I have an SD card on /dev/sde. The command "findmnt -l" does not show anything mounted on /dev/sde*'. I am the root user. "ls -l /dev/sde*" shows: brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 64 Feb 1 13:43 /dev/sde brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 65 Feb 1 13:43 /dev/sde1 So apparently the device is writable. I checked the lock switch on the SD card which is unlocked. After that I want to write an image on the SD card using dd with of=/dev/sde, however I always get: dd: failed to open ‘/dev/sde’: Read-only file system I am using openSUSE 13.1, which is fully updated. When I mount the SD card, which is mounted as a vfat device, I am also unable to write on the device. [opensuse] Virtualbox installation difficulty

Hi, I am trying to install Virtualbox-4.3-4.3.6_91406_openSUSE114-1.x86_64.rpm from VirtualBox on my openSUSE 13.1 system. I had tried to install this on my opensuse 12.3 system, but it wouldn't install, so I have upgraded my system to opensuse 13.1. But it still won't install. The difficulty it encounters is that a dependency can't be found. Yast tells me that "nothing provides libvpx.so.0()(64bit)needed by VirtualBox-4.3-4.3.6_91406_openSUSE114-1.x86_64. I tried using Package Search to locate a more advanced version of libvpx1 and libvpx. The versions I located are 1.3.0 for both, and libvpx1 will install and libvpx won't install. But it doesn't matter, as I still get the same dependency missing requirement from the Yast dependency resolver after I have installed the newer version. My question is obviously, how to resolve this problem to satisfy the dependency and get VirtualBox installed. At the time, I blamed Pulseaudio, but I may have been wrong ... I started by completely removing PA from my system (not just disabling it), but though the problem improved, it didn't go away completely. That seemed to exonerate PA, even if having it installed aggravated the underlying problem. So I reinstalled PA. I listen to my music through Music Player Daemon (MPD), so the next thing was to try another player. MPlayer behaved flawlessly, even through PA, so that pointed the finger at MPD. I monitor my computer with gkrellm, and I noticed that there was very little disk activity during playback with MPlayer, whereas MPD reads data from the disk in 262k chunks. Maybe a buffer somewhere is being emptied faster than it fills when using MPD, compared to MPlayer. MPD's configuration file has an entry #buffer_before_play "10%" so I uncommented this line, and increased the value to 20%. buffer_before_play "20%" So far, so good, music is playing perfectly. I realise that other people who've experienced similar problems with sound may not be using MPD, but this may help them find a similar solution in their setup. [opensuse] Intermittent crash with gnucash 2.4.13 and opensuse 13.1

I am running gnucash 2.4.13, the version which comes from the opensuse repos. From time to time I get an intermittent crash. Most often it happens when I am generating a report, but sometimes it happens when I right click on a transaction. There is no definite pattern to why it crashes - it just shuts down. In order to troubleshoot, I wanted to run it from the command line. I'm cleaning up my disk with fslint. Following an upgrade to 13.1 ... Where I kept my /home on a separate partition ... [opensuse] KDM doesn't present a password propmt after resume

Hi!, I've installed OS 11.3 on a Latitude e6400 and it's working fine. The only anoying bit is that after a suspend/resume cycle KDE/KDM doesn't allow me to access my session, there's no password propmt and the session is locked. I can kill the X server and start over or go to another virtual console to start a CLI session. [opensuse] Firefox problem

Somehow I managed to maximize the Firefox screen causing it to cover the menubar. Can someone provide the keyboard command to bring the menubar back on the display?
