[opensuse] USB scanner problem in openSUSE 13.2

Hello: This problem occurs in openSUSE 13.2 i586 (fresh install from DVD) on a new computer (new hardware). My Epson Perfection V37 USB scanner does not work. After switching the scanner on, at the first time it is recognized immediately: scanimage -L device `epkowa:interpreter:003:006' is a Epson Perfection V37 flatbed scanner But the following times the command hangs for long time: scanimage -L ... long-long-time one-two minutes device `epkowa:interpreter:003:006' is a Epson (unknown model) flatbed scanner Note that the scanner is not recognized properly this time. The same happens if I try to use application, eg xsane. Firts time the sanner works OK, next time xsane startup hangs, and eventually gives an error message: "Failed to open device `epkowa:interpreter:003:006': Error during device I/O." I have been using this scanner family with the epkowa driver in different openSUSE versions on different systems but never before had any problem with it. Google search resulted in two possibly cause of the issue: 1. Due to a bug linux kernel cannot handle USB3 devices correctly. 2. The system cannot wake the USB device from sleep. dmesg shows indications of 1.: [ 7029.415988] usb 3-3: new high-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd [ 7029.582753] usb 3-3: New USB device found, idVendor=04b8, idProduct=014a [ 7029.582761] usb 3-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 [ 7029.582767] usb 3-3: Product: EPSON Perfection V37/V370 [ 7029.582771] usb 3-3: Manufacturer: EPSON [ 7029.583082] usb 3-3: ep 0x81 - rounding interval to 128 microframes, ep desc says 255 microframes [ 7029.583093] usb 3-3: ep 0x2 - rounding interval to 128 microframes, ep desc says 255 microframes See the last two lines. According to some sources this explains the problem. But I never found an answer how I could fix the issue and use the scanner normally. Any idea? [opensuse] OpenSUSE 13.2 thinks its a laptop

I have just install a fresh copy of 13.2 onto my desktop and it seems to think it is installed on a laptop. [opensuse] Thunderbird wants to encrypt drafts, and fails.

Hi, every while, Thunderbird wants to save the drafts of the emails I compose to this list, and wants to encrypt the draft. And then it pops up with a message that it doesn't know what destination key to use to "send" (yes, it says send, although I'm not sending yet). And it has the "send encrypted" tick selected in that modal poput. I have to untick it then hit [SEND] in order to SAVE the DRAFT. Should it not use MY key for encryption, not the DESTINATION key for saving drafts? Obviously there can be no key assigned to a mail list, nor to many of the possible destinations. [opensuse] 13.2 configuration questions

Hi, I did clean install of 13.2 / x86-64. Most of the things are working (I have not completed it yet), but I've noticed some strange things: 1) I disabled ipv6 (and actually wicked show-xml all shows it disabled), but I see dbus-org.opensuse.Network.DHCP6 is enabled (inacive) wickedd-dhcp6.service is enabled and running ip6tables are loaded and active, during shutdown I see the system waiting on IPV6 I had to disable these services manually. Why? 2) I do not use LVM, but I see lvm2-lvmetad.service running 3) When I check in Yast what happens to services, I see a number of services "disabled" but "active"... (e.g. upowerd). If you are a dev and you want to reproduce that failure you have to download the ISO for the build under test and give it a shot. Thus investigating failed tests is why one would download factory and/or one of the ring ISOs. [opensuse] Removing file-associations

Hi, Recently I added a file-association (right-clicking a file and then click "open with", then "other", then select to application and select "use always"). Now all text-files are opened with that application. I have to richt-click and select e.g. KWrite to open that file. How can I "globally" remove that association ? I tried in system-configuration/file-associations. In the "Application" list there are tens, maybe over hundred, of entries, and I don't want to scan them individually to remove that application from the list. I already did from a number of them, but then I gave up. So any advice ? Thanks. [opensuse] NetworkManager fails with dhcp time-out

openSUSE 13.2 I cannot and have never succeeded getting NetworkManager to work with my wireless machines. My latest attempt on an acer laptop seems to fail with dhcp timing out, logs are at: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/~pat/NetworkManager.log.txt google searches have provided some hits but nothing that I find helps.
