[opensuse] yast errors in 12.3

I'm getting a lot of errors when tying to use the yast tool in GUI Mode under xfce4 with 12.3. Mostly they look like this. ** (y2base:3670): WARNING **: Error retrieving accessibility bus address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.a11y.Bus was not provided by any .service files YaST got signal 11 at YCP file PackagesUI.ycp:301 /sbin/yast2: line 431: 3670 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS QGtkStyle was unable to detect the current GTK+ theme. Qt: Session management error: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed That looks like a configuration problem - perhaps I have a theme not loaded, perhaps I shouldn't be running this under xfce4, perhaps I need a tweak of PAM ... perhaps .. perhaps .. Before I go screaming "Bug! Bug! Bug! Fix It Now!", lets find out if it is a bug or if its an omission on the part of Anton. OBTW: I can reproduce this in a number of ways, but the most common is where a package I'm removing has dependencies and I get the pop-up offering options 1,2,3. [opensuse] HTML Editor recommendation - in openSuse repositories

In the past I've used Nvu and Arachnophilia, which I liked, Bluefish which I was ambiguous about and Komposer which I didn’t like mostly because it was unstable and Quanta, which I thought was overkill. Does the community have any recommendations for a HTML editor that I might use with KDE Baskets? Please note: that context. Not web site development. -- As I did so I struck against an elderly, deformed man, who had been behind me, and I knocked down several books which he was carrying. [opensuse] Using duinsoft.nl script to update Java Sun

Hello, I need Sun Java to access an Internet Banking account and so far I always used the manual update way. I would like to know if in OpenSuSe are there any chances to install the deb package or in alternative to adapt the script available in www.duinsoft.nl in order to run it inside a crontab to check Java download and install the new JRE. http://www.duinsoft.nl/packages.php?t=en#hand Thanks. [opensuse] Sis drive segfaults in 12.3

I've just installed 12.3 on one of my scratch machines. It has a SiS chipset, the 630/670 video chip. This worked with 12.2 but, as I reported, the installation had to be done in text mode with 12.2 since the installer couldn't do EDID handling properly with my Flatron. See the archives. The 12.3 installer seems to handle the Flatron, but only in vesa mode. When the install finishes and I reboot the graphical login crashes. The log files show that the SiS driver segfaults. 1. Is anyone else seeing this? 2. I try a spare video card but the a) the kernel doesn't seem to want to run it in text mode during boot so I can't see what's going on b) when booted and in GUI mode (lovely, hi-res!) everything else is frozen - keyboard, mouse, clock display. 3. I've tried editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf to say "vesa" instead, but it won't let go of the SiS - it still tries using SiS and segfaults. Perhaps my Xorg-fu is lacking. All the Flatron side seems happy now. I _think_ the drivers are seeing the EDID. Any suggestions? -- I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: "O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous." [opensuse] Android hotspot

Hi, I just unsuccessfully tried to connect to my cell-phone via wifi. Did anyone succeed in doing this ? I configured my phone to be a hotspot, wpa2 with a pass-phrase. I see the ssid but when I tried to connect to it with two laptops, one OS 12.3, one with OS 12.2, I could not connect. Is there anything special to configure on Opensuse ? [opensuse] No fglrx legacy in 12.3 Mesa is extremely noisy

Hi all, I installed 12.3 yesterday and had to learn that AMD will never support the latest Xorg included in this distribution. I do not want any special feature of the video driver, so Mesa would be OK for me, if it would not cause the cooling fan on the video card to spin with extreme noise and even with this rotation speed the chip temperature would not be above boiling point. What can I do? Buy a newer card - do not want this option Revert back to 12.2 Downgrade Xorg - seems a bit difficult for me Tweak Mesa - but how? [opensuse] Has the kernel (or whatever) lost the ability to handle ntfs formatted partitions devices?

I have an external USB3, 2TB, WD HDD which is formatted in ntfs. I also have an external USB2 500GB Maxtor also formatted in ntfs and which I have used for years to do backups of my Linux system files. Never a problem in the past. However, I have now found that, starting with the more recent upgrades of the kernel from Kernel:/stable/standard for 12.2 (and now 12.3) and using the 2TB WD HDD copying files from an ext4 formatted partition to ntfs formatted drives fail. Let me describe things from the start: * I switch on the external WD and access its contents with Dolphin. I then use mc (Midnight Commander) to copy files from the main system to the external; * even though the WD HDD is a USB 3 device and connected to a USB 3 port the transfer rate is no better than what I got using USB 2; * a copy from ext4 partition at some stage fails with an error message that "Cannot chmod target file - no such file or directory (2)" - or some other similar error message which is usually a (5) number - but many other files HAD been successfully copied across; * BUT, but, and this is what has me scratching my head, is *that* *the* USB* *device* *is* *umounted* and is no longer seen by mc NOR by Dolphin!; * the device is still in the taskbar's Device Notifier panel and Dolphin will access it and display its contents but the damn thing is initially UNMOUNTED when an error occurs during the copying process. Anybody else seeing this behaviour, or have seen it but ignored it as "just one of these things"?
