Yes I guess this is good that reboot is more to do with "where you sit" rather than anything else and I solely put this the reason why even the command like 'reboot' is in /sbin though even when if it were not in that, it won't break the system except to restart! [opensuse] KDE mixer problem with stereo speakers on laptop

Hi - I just installed openSuSE 12.3 x64 on an ASUS G75V series laptop and ran into a quirk with the KDE mixer (KDE Version 4.10.5 "release 1") that I suspect is a simple oops on somebodies part. This laptop does have two stereo speakers. When I bring up the KDE mixer dialog window, click on Settings -> Audio Setup, that brings up the Phonon - KDE Control Module dialog window. From here I select my sound card and set the profile to "Analog Stereo Output" Then if I click on the test buttons for the "Front Left" and "Front Right" the "Front Left" works fine but the "Front Right" also comes out on the Front Left speaker as well. BTW this DID work fine under openSuSE12.2 so I suspect something broke in this release. Now for a bit of further quirkiness.... For grins I also tried the "Analog Surround 4.0 Output" profile. This time both the Front Left and the Front Right test buttons produced sound on the correct speaker, but both the Rear Left and Rear Right test buttons produce sound on the Front Left speaker and at a much higher volume level than the sound produced by the Front Left and Front Right test buttons. I kinda suspect this is a simple problem to solve and somebody dropped the ball on testing this software code. Any ideas on how to get my KDE mixer to behave properly? Thanks in advance... [opensuse] Nvidia drivers for 12.3

Hello openSuSE list- my question regards the correct Nvidia drivers to use with my laptop on which I very recently installed 12.3 ? The card installed is: Nvidia GeForce GTX 285M Graphics with 1GB GDDR3 Vi. The Nvidia driver installed now is: nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-desktop. Is that the right one? Also, there are some nouveau drivers. Should they be there? I'm a new SuSE user but in my past Ubuntu experience this machine as always worked best with those proprietary drivers. I don't game but do have a large monitor and have found the nvidia-settings app has helped it work. That is, when I close the lid the attached DVI monitor become primary. Can't seem to make that work with the installed drivers, or without them. Also, after I installed this driver all the fonts seem too large. Something's wrong. Can you advise? [opensuse] Working k10temp for AMD CPUs?

Hi. I'm trying to do some HW monitoring on a system I'm working on. It's an AMD 965 (Quad core 64 bit - AMD Family 10h) CPU on a Gigabyte motherboard. The sensors-detect script finds the k10temp sensor, but... it says that the CPU is running at 0C, and while I have a decent cooler, I don't think it's that good. The sensor itself is working, and reports believable info in other OSes (ie Windows). Looking at the kernel documentation here: https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/hwmon/k10temp it seems that I should be able to use the force=1 paramter when loading the module... so: # rmmod k10temp # modprobe k10temp force=1 And the kernel module loads: # lsmod | grep k10temp k10temp 13127 0 But... running sensors again gives me this: # sensors k10temp-pci-00c3 Adapter: PCI adapter temp1: +0.0°C (high = +70.0°C) (crit = +89.0°C, hyst = +87.0°C) So now I'm stuck... I've read the docs, tried what makes sense... but not producing results. Anyone here have any luck with this? Hi, When I run any command as a normal user (almost more than 30%), I get "Absolute path to 'reboot' is '/sbin/reboot'". What does it indicate and mean? Simply typing 'reboot' won't reboot the machine but I need to type this. However, simple commands works with "root" and there is doesn't show /sbin/*. Thanks. -- Life and death. [opensuse] FVWM crash on 12.3

Getting a double free crash on 12.3 - usually associated with having an ssh session to a redhat-based system. Happening with both the SuSE rpm for 2.6.4 and the fvwm.org 2.6.5 compiled on the target machine. I'm going to send the stack dump (from .xsession-errors) to fvwm-workers upstream, but who, if anyone, should I send this too at SuSE (or where is bugzilla to open a ticket and any suggestions about how to configure such a ticket)? [opensuse] virtaul mail account in ldap

I'm installing a mail server. Accounts shall be virtual and LDAP is a good place for them. Yast allows (with many traps) to preconfigure such server (postfix+ldap+cyrus-imap). Now, how may I add user/mail accounts? According to what I found, the yast's "Mail Server Configuration" or "User and Group Management" modules shall be able to manage such accounts (rpm -qil yast2-mail-plugins). But from some reason, I can't get in to this module. Is there any other method? Temporary I will accept any method. I will be happy even with an example in ldif format.
