[opensuse] vsftpd failed to start

I have opensuse 12.3 and ubuntu 13.04 and runnning Xvnc and X11vnc to log on each other, then thought an easiest way to move files around between systems was to run FTP server (vsftpd), which I did on both machines. But it's running fine on Ubuntu machine while it failed to start on OpenSuSE machine. What I did was.. - installed vsftpd via software manager in Yast(GUI) - enabled it in xinetd (GUI) - then tried running manually with "/etc/init.d/vsftpd start" But in systemctl, it shows as "failed" and not running. [opensuse] virtual IP port is filtered

I'm hoping someone can help me here. I've added an additional network address to a nic with alias 1 (eth0:1). This is to be used for an additional web server on port 80. iptables is open: # iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination When I scan the ip address with nmap: nmap -p80 -sV 192.168.1.95 Starting Nmap 4.75 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2013-10-03 08:15 CDT Interesting ports on server.domain.com (192.168.1.95): PORT STATE SERVICE VERSION 80/tcp filtered http Anyone know why this port is filtered instead of open? Then I switch to runlevel 5, and log in. Eventually, I noticed that those two partitions were not mounted. I thought that perhaps I did not mount them. So this time I checked. I mounted them, and verified that the content was available. I then started level 5 (init 5). I typed ctrl-alt-f1, and listed the content of those partitions: not mounted. [opensuse] Webyast

Wondering if it is possible to get Webyast working? (for no particular reason - to see what it does/is capable of) Have done lots of googling, and reinstalled pam-modules, created a polkit-1 directory etc... The best I can get is a terminal within a web browser, that doesn't work? [opensuse] Mounting e-SATA drive

Hi, Is it possible to make an e-SATA drive behave like a USB-drive ? What I mean is, when I click on the drive/partition have it mounted automatically. Now I have to enter the root-password to have it mounted. FWIW Ubuntu 10.04 had this. [opensuse] Full graphical remote login

Hello, I wonder if it is possible to use fully graphical remote login from Linux and WIndows to openSUSE. I think VNC doesn't fit me needs, because I need to log in various users, which are not logged to the server right now and I need to log more users in same time - everyone should log with their respective account. RDP would be fine, bud it seems it's not supported and working anymore. SSH X forwarding also isn't enough as I'd like to have full graphical access. Is there such possibility? [opensuse] Latest Thunderbird

Hi, After the latest update to Thunderbird earlier this week I noticed that TB has decided to stop auto spelling, anyone else notice this behavior? When I start TB and compose a message auto spell works, i.e. I get the little red lines when I fat finger things or just simply mis-spell stuff because I don't know any better ;) . Unfortunately TB apparently thinks this is only important in the first message I sent :( on subsequent message composition the red lines are no longer showing up. Anyone have any ideas what's going on? And yes I toggled the "Enable spelling as you type" check box off and on just in case, but that didn't help. With this latest issue and the still occurring supper slowness of Calender sync with Google TB is slowly driving me to the point of looking for alternatives grumble. Help is appreciated. [opensuse] tomcat7 update missing on the mirrors

I've just ran across this and I'm not really sure what's going on or how to proceed. An update for tomcat 7 on OpenSUSE 12.3 was release back on 7 August 2013 which brought it up to version tomcat-7.0.35-2.9.1. Earlier I went to install the tomcat-admin-webapps package and it failed because due to a version requirement, version 7.0.35-2.2.1 is what it was trying to install. I do run a local mirror and thought maybe it was out of sync but then I checked http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.3 there are no tomcat update packages available. Something tells me packages should just disappear like this. Should I file a bug for this, is this a maintenance or OBS issue?
