This (didn't show in my initial web search for usb bootable utilities) below looked simplest, so I ask Google for imagewriter, who gives me both the launchpad.net homepage and a suse installation page telling how to use it for suse. OK! I follow the instructions and reboot. Hooray! the beloved suse installation welcome splash. Ask for installation: get only a 5-field garbled screen, no more activity. Ask for verification: same. Ask for repair: same. Boot from disk: same text-mode as before. Thanks, Carl, but it didn't work for me. Now on to Felix's method as amplified by Per and Lars. His first method using zypper is next. [opensuse] No sound with Skype 4.0 on openSUSE 12.2

Since reinstalling Skype 4.0 on this oS 12.2 system running KDE 4.8.5 there has been no sound output for receiving calls or ringing. It all worked on the previous 12.1 system. On the previous system, Skype detected that pulseaudio was controlling the sound system, and offered a button to open the PA controller. This is missing now, and skype doesn't offer the default device known to YaST and KDE System Settings Phonon, unless it's what it calls default device, which doesn't work :~| All the other sounds work OK, e.g. system sounds, music output etc. I've googled and read through the mailing list archives, but can't find an answer. Most messages are about skype not installing properly on 64 bit systems (like this one), but that's not my problem. Any suggestions, please? [opensuse] ADding a Patch for a WINE app in 12.2

Hi All, Having just upgraded to openSUSE 12.2, I have gotten most of it to work well so far. There is one application I use which is important to my work, called Evernote, and I run it in wine. In 12.1, it would synchronize with the server; in 12.2, it does not synchronize. I found this bug report through a response in the forums: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30598 In the bug report there is a lot about adding packages and attachments, or installing an earlier version of openssl. Apparently openssl needs to be .98 or earlier, or there is a particular patch to install. The problem I am facing now is, how do I install a patch for a windows application run in wine? If so, do I need to make a whole new package and build it, and then install it as a patch for wine using zypper install? I don't know yet how to make packages using rpmbuild, but I had a 15 minute crash course yesterday in the beginnings of how to do that. So I am ready to rise to the challenge, but I want to make sure I am on the right path. I am running wine-1.5.6-2.1.2.x86_64 in openSUSE 12.2 on my laptop (see below). -- G.O. The hint about bug # https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=774627#c11 solved it, installing / updating from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Zaitor:/branches:/openSUSE:… these Packages: libpoppler27-0.20.3-2.5.1.i586.rpm libpoppler-glib8-0.20.3-2.5.1.i586.rpm libpoppler-qt4-4-0.20.3-2.5.1.i586.rpm poppler-tools-0.20.3-2.5.1.i586.rpm Printing from every KDE Application now works. [opensuse] WLAN connection dropping in 12.2

Hi, I saw that Per Jessen had this issue with an RC version of openSUSE 12.2, now I have it on my Thinkpad T61: my WLAN connection suddenly drops away. I do not need a reboot, a "rcnetwork restart" on the konsole or disabling and re-enabling WLAN connections in the network manager applet helps. But it is annoying. Is there any workaround? [opensuse] Yast Boot Loader and Grub2 support

Hello, In the past, I have typically configured Grub Configuration through Yast whenever I needed an additional entry in the grub menu. Keep in mind that this is a server without Xserver. With Grub2, it appears the feature is missing in Yast Boot Loader module, am I missing something? [opensuse] Cannot get evernote with wine to work in opensuse 12.2

Hi all, I just upgraded to openSUSE 12.2 using the installation DVD and doing an upgrade, rather than a fresh install. After the upgrade, I installed the KDE repos for 4.9 and upgraded KDE also. I use a program called evernote, running it in wine, and it works (mostly) in 12.1. The main feature that I need to make it functional, naturally, is the synchronization. Unfortunately, the synchronization no longer works. Synchronization is with Evernote's cloud server so that you can keep all your evernote applications the same. On my partition running 12.1, I am running wine-1.4-2.12.1.x86_64. on the partition running 12.2, I am running wine-1.5.6-2.1.2.x86_64. ON 12.1 it connects to the Evernote server, authenticates, and syncs. On 12.2 it gives a notification of "Could not connect to the Evernote server, authentication failed." So, any suggestions on what to do? I tried to add the wine repository to see if I could downgrade wine to 1.4.2, but that is not available in the wine repository. [opensuse] stopping and restarting Firewall openSuse 12.2

Hi Folks, I am using a fresh install of openSUSE 12.2 amd64 and I seem to have an issue temporarily stopping and restarting the Firewall. I go to yast -> firewall and click on "Stop Firewall Now" then click Next, then Finish. When I go back into yast -> firewall it tell me Current status: Firewall is running. I also can confirm by checking various ports that indeed the firewall is still running. This used to work fine this way inder 12.1 when I last tried it. Is the use model different now.
