[opensuse] connecting my telephone to the internet

Hi all, I would like to connect my telephone to the internet, so as to be able to exploit telephone internet facilities (e.g. google talk). I guees a computer with modem as server should be set up, to link my plain old telephon line to my telephone. Any comments and suggestions? [opensuse] how to update iso image of opensuse releases to the latest (fixed) packages that had been released ever since gold status?

Good day, I would like to actually advocate for opensuse releasing updated iso images of their opensuse versions after gold status, similar to debian with their r1 r2 r3 rx... releases after their initial r0 of a major release. Why? I remember and experienced myself a great many of bugs that affect upgradability and give endless troubles (for example say hello to perl bootloader packages and other crazy stuff). As until so far, opensuse never releases (I think there was one incident in the past when a vanilla iso got rebuilt because of a serious showstopper bug in the gold media) updated iso files, so no matter how long I wait after a gold of a release and even if I read the often endless bugreports on really serious bugs (with e.g bootloaders, grub, raid1 systemss and many other really pretty bugs (according to my understanding of what a basic system would need to provide for in terms of usability and stability), I will always have to cope with these bugs (maybe long fixed with updates though) and read through bugreports and understand workarounds and fixes, and I often had to use rescue systems to chroot/boot into messed up nonbooting systems and fix stuff so often. So I really really would like to integrate especially these fundamental fixes into the opensuse isos. If opensuse is limited and cant to updated rX versions of their releases, please can anyone tell me how I take the packages from the /update/ repository (what files exactly? index files? simply add the update folder in some way to the iso image, or can I actually really replace the preexisting older versioned rpm inside the iso?) to the precompiled iso images of vanilla opensuse? Maybe some others think of this situation expressed here, as worthy to be tackled and maybe opensuse could also come up with a concept of patch integration into release media and doing updated enhanced revisions of major releases as well. [opensuse] ssh -x: obscure output delay

Hi, I am having some weird effect when using ssh -x. I have a perl-script '/scripts/colorlogs' that colors log output. I have a bash script '/scripts/mess' that calls 'tail -fn48 /var/log/messages | /scripts/colorlogs'. Now, when I ssh to the machine and call /scripts/mess, everything is just fine. However, when I call 'ssh root@machine -x /scripts/mess', the script is running but the last few lines of the file are missing. Sometimes, the output stops in the middle of a line. It looks like sshd when connected by 'ssh -x' would use some buffer and would only transmit data to the client when the buffer is full. Does anybody happen to know how to avoid this? [opensuse] disabling xorg automatic configuration

Hello: Is there a way to completely disable xorg's automatic device detection and configuration? I would like xorg to act according and ONLY according to my xorg.conf file. (That is if I remove my xorg.conf file the X servers should fail.) Is this possible in openSUSE 12.1? For example in my xorg.conf file only 2 resolutions are allowed for my monitor but krandrtray (in KDE 3.5.10) lists 24 possibilities, which is annoying. In previous opensuse/xorg only the options listed in my xorg.conf were shown by krandrtray. [opensuse] Substitutes for Akonadi programs

Hi I find it hard to accept having an instance of mysql sucking all memory from my system just to handle mail and the like. It's the worst shit database possible to choose. It would be another matter if there was a personal choice of database, as I already use PostgreSQL heavily. So, what substitutes for the following programs are acceptable - - Kmail (Well, Thunderbird) - Akgregator - Konversation - Kopete Not sure I have anything else using Akonadi. I gather that I perhaps also lose some calendar and event handling, which I don't use atm. [opensuse] How can I make Yast happy when JRE is installed?

We can install the JRE rpm from them, and remove the java-1_6 rpm, because JRE is an update of that one - but yast does not recognizes it as an update, and wants to install icetea-web. I had to taboo it. Then yast insisted and tried to install java-1_6_0_opnjdk. Again I said no and tabooed it. Then Yast insisted and wanted to install gcc-ijj - more or less in that order. I also tabooed it. Then YaST got mad at me and wanted to remove openoffice, and I told it to &&%%·$ itself and break dependencies. Is there some other way to make yast happy and recognize that Java IS indeed installed in the system? Perhaps a false java rpm with false provides? Hi, I've just finished a first shot of an udisks automount module which helps the automount daemon to genarate autofs maps on the fly for removable devices on the local system. For this the module is connecting to the message bus daemon dbus-daemon(1) to monitor all device events of the udisks-daemon(8). To grant access for local users the automount udisks module also monitors users sessions hold by the ConsoleKit daemon, compare with description of the PAM module pam_ck_connector(8). >>>>> Warning this is an experimental feature <<<<< You'll find this extension at build.opensuse.org in the project home:WernerFink:branches:filesystems. Be arware that the map file of an entry like /media udisks:/etc/autofs.udisks --timeout=5 --ghost is not in the autofs format but hold in XML to be able to generate with the rules therein a map entry on the fly for a udisk event. Compare with manual page autofs.udisks (5). Also to be able to use this there should be found a valid session if the udisks automount module asks the ConsoleKit daemon. That is you have no XDG_SESSION_COOKIE in the session environment the udisks automount module will not allow mounting local devices. Why I've written this udisks automount module? Hmm .. as I'm using fvwm2 and the automount is the natural tools for automounting devices. Therefore I've asked why there is no support for the modern dbus tools to do this even without and desktop based tools. Nevertheless I've learned some things of how to use dbus (without using glib:) and how to write an XML parser.
