[opensuse] awesome window manager? Where?

Howdy all, I tried to install awesome window manager on my system, Zypper says the package doesn't exist and YaST doesn't know about "awesome" either. [opensuse] Installation Woes

I decided to give openSUSE a try to see how it is. I used SuSE some years back and drifted away. I downloaded 12.1-64 and burned the DVD [ properly ]. Was a bit surprised to discover that there was a Windows exe file to install. Decided - well, why not. Got to a certain point and told me I didn't have the admin rights to install. Not terribly surprising because as my "user" account I don't have admin rights. As a general rule Windows will as me for the admin password but this time it didn't. Decided to boot from the DVD and install that way. Restarted the computer and thought maybe it might be a good idea to do the media test before installing. Started out fine and got to a splash screen, and just sat there like a lump. No keyboard or mouse input available. [ I run this computer and another on a KVM switch and couldn't even switch to the other computer with the keyboard - had to push the button on the switch ] Had to do a hard shut down with the power switch. Rebooted to the DVD and tried the install option. Got to the same splash screen with the same results. Had to do another hard shutdown. Rebooted into Windows again as admin. Run the exe file. Got to the same point as I did as user and same result. No admin privilege to install. I'm logged into the computer AS admin and I don't have privilege??????? Computer is an Intel dual core with two gigs memory triple booted with Kubuntu 12.04, Windows 7 and XP. I was/am going to replace the XP with opensuse [ if I can get it installed ]. Anyone got any suggestions? [opensuse] Sound in OpenSUSE 12.1

Just installed OpenSUSE 12.1 and the first stumbling block the sound. I have a couple of programs requiring the /dev file mixer and dsp. Both of these are missing from the system. Is there a configuration file to create these audio dev files. [opensuse] Convert Yarn/2 Folders to mbox???

I see that a number of denizens on this list are former OS/2 or eCS users. I finally gave up on that platform in mid-2007 (in favour of what is now openSUSE) since it was becoming too much of a struggle to keep eCS apace with the possible. I have of course been able to transfer the 15 years' of work files that were on the OS/2 system into openSUSE, but with one exception. That exception is the accumulation of emails across many years in Yarn/2, which I still need to consult from time to time. To a degree, this situation would have been eased if I'd been able to get OS/2 up and running in a virtual machine under openSUSE. But, despite many attempts and much frustration, I have not been able to get any of the OS/2 flavours to work satisfactorily as a VirtualBox guest in an openSUSE host. That includes eCS 2.0 and the latest editions of VBox. In consequence I've kept an older computer in a sufficient operational condition to run eCS 1.2 for occasional forays into the Yarn/2 email archives when needed, which is clumsy, but at least it has worked so far. But it won't work forever. Against that day, what I'd like to do is convert the contents of archived Yarn/2 mail folders into mbox format so I can then import them into Thunderbird or other mailer running on openSUSE (currently 12.1). I've googled all over the place, and this has yielded only a small handful of relevant returns, none of which has led to anything useful. I'd be very grateful therefore if some ex-OS/2 guru - or anyone else - could help me with achieving this Yarn/2 => unix conversion. Thank you. [opensuse] New update breaks Seamonkey email

I just installed the latest Seamonkey update and now the email part is unusable. The first thing I noticed is there's no message or header area visible. It's just a big blue-grey area. Also, it's missing several iterms from the Mail tool bar. There's no "File", "Edit", "View" "Help" listed. [opensuse] help with recovery from botched nvidia driver install

Hi List, I have been running 12.1 on 64 bit for a while. My graphics card is a GeForce GTX470 and I have been using the nouveau driver without any problems for months. The other day I tried to install the nvidia driver with the result that the plasma desktop became unstable (bombs to black screen after a while). I tried a couple of the older drivers as well with the same symptoms. I have since tried to recover from this situation and revert back to the nouveau driver, however, with limited success. I was able to uninstall the nvidia driver and remove the blacklisting for nouveau. I also had to remove my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in order to get the X server to come back up but it does so in 1280x1024 instead of 1920x1080 which is my native screen resolution. Basically, the screen looks like what comes up in failsafe mode. What am I missing? How do I get the higher resolution back? Is there a way to rerun the hardware test scripts that determine the correct settings upon an initial install? I would hate to have to reinstall from scratch. [opensuse] Xephyr on OpenSuse 12.1 not working as expected.

Moin, I started with OpenSuse 12.1 and would like to "Xephyr" running. Its needed since we have to connect to remote desktops ( mostly CDE - AIX,Sun a.s.o ) Xephyr is working fine on OpenSuse 11.1 and OpenSuse 11.4 but on 12.1 i get only a black screen Error message: : Xephyr unable to use SHM XIMage And later : XDM: too many retransmissions, declaring session dead. Note: Display Manager is: xdm Any hint where to start debugging. The only way that I can think of is to pack your folders into SOUP files with "Yarn to Soup with Grep"[1], read them into Gnus under Emacs with the nnsoup backend and copy/move the messages to mbox files. However, Gnus have a steep learning curve- YMMV.
