[opensuse] how to give files group rw permissions

Hi I want all files created or copied to a directory become rw for all group members. I have a directory e.g. chmod g+rws /home/dropbox gives me: d-wxrws--x 2 root suseusers 4096 Feb 14 20:16 dropbox However, if a user in the suseusers group copies or creates a file there it is: -rw-r--r-- 1 steve6 suseusers 0 Feb 14 20:23 hola but I want it: -rw-rw---- 1 steve6 suseusers 0 Feb 14 20:23 hola Can it be done? [opensuse] 12.1 Update repository repomd.xml file is unsigned

Hi, Getting an error tonight when trying to refresh the openuse-12.1-updates repo (http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.1/) that the file repomd.xml is unsigned! All my other repos, including the 11.4 update repo on my 11.4 installations are working normally, so the problem appears to be only the 12.1 update repo. I get the same error using zypper, Yast or Apper. I tried deleting the update repo & adding it again, got the same error when I tired to add it back in. [opensuse] GIMP Plugin Registry in openSUSE Repos

Hi, I came across an issue today when I was editing my imaging using GIMP. The is something called "GIMP Plugin Registry" which I used to install from Synaptic under Ubuntu. But I don't find it under openSUSE or not even on the software.opensuse.org. How to install this plugin? [opensuse] susefirewall2 ftp connection tracking for hylafax

Anyone really knowledgeable about susefirewall2 ? Is there a way to get ftp connection tracking for hylafax's port 4559 just by supplying files with the package? like unusual variables I can put the service definition file? and/or add a modprobe.d/foo.conf file? http://forum.zentyal.org/index.php?topic=1211.0 Basically how can I get this end result: modprobe nf_conntrack_ftp ports=4559 I maintain a HylaFAX+ package and I already include a service definition file but it only opens a single simple tcp port. hylafax+ does not have the port range limiting option that vsftpd has, so I can't handle this the way vsftpd does, by including a limited port range in the service definition file and specifying that same range in vsftpd.conf. In /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 there is FW_SERVICES_ACCEPT_RELATED_EXT and FW_LOAD_MODULES These can be edited from yast but only via /etc/sysconfig editor, it's hardly better than hand editing the file, but it's an option. But then where can I put the module options? Normally nf_conntrack_ftp is not loaded even when vsftpd is installed and enabled because as mentioned above it's not needed for vsftpd. But it might be in use for some other ftp server, so, I can't just supply a /etc/modprobe.d/50-hylafax.conf that has the line options nf_conntrack_ftp ports=4559 That's not technically correct. If it were to exist at all it should rightly be named /etc/modprobe.d/50-nf_conntrack_ftp.conf and it should contain nothing but comments or nf_conntrack_ftp ports=21 or nf_conntrack_ftp ports=21,4559 or nf_conntrack_ftp ports=4559 depending one what's installed and how they're configured. But I don't think any suse/init scripts automatically do anything like that. Basically there are a number of ways I can get the final result. I could just put a couple modprobe and iptables commands in boot.local for instance. Have you thought about mirroring the repositories that you use, i.e., by rsync? You will download packages that you don't have installed, but if bandwidth on A is less a problem, that could get you working. See http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Mirror_infrastructure how to get these files. In particular, the rsync module opensuse-updates is of interest. Use rsync option --exclude to limit your downloads to 12.1. When you have the files, you can transfer them to your system B by any means that you device and declare that as a local md repo. [opensuse] vlc regressing?

A couple of days ago zypper installed a number of updates to the KDE 4.8 files I am using - including some to vlc. Of course following this, vlc would not work and I therefore had to do what everybody has been doing for a long time and that is install vlc from videolan.org as a "one-click install". Following this, vlc worked again - *BUT*, unlike to what has been the case for the past years, when I switch to another workspace/desktop vlc audio goes MUTE while vlc continues running, in the background, on the workspace where I always run it (Desktop #6). (This going mute is similar to what happens in, say, the game Pysol - Tri Peaks which goes into PAUSE mode when you switch to another desktop.) I also have xine installed but xine still behaves as it has over the years: the sound continues when I switch desktops. Has anyone else struck this annoyance and/or knows how to overcome this new behaviour by vlc, please? (BTW, there were some updates yet again to vlc earlier today [my time] but these have not changed anything. And Yes, I have checked the settings for anything obvious to cause this new behaviour - but probably missed the obvious one.) [opensuse] How to remove a widget?

Added a widget yesterday - this is simple enough - but how does one *remove* the thing (or any widget for that matter)?! :-) Thanks for any enlightenment on this vexed question :-) . [opensuse] File system is not clean

openSUSE 12.1 64 bit AMD processor; I have noticed the message 'File system is not clean' when I boot the system. Other than slowing down the boot process this doesn't seem to have another effect on the system. I couldn't find any reason via Google and am wondering if this condition is serious, or can I ignore it? Also, when the system is rebooted the widgets on the icon bar are rearranged, even thought they are locked. Is there a solution to this? Enlightenment will be much appreciated. [opensuse] google search result links again

Hello: Earlier I complained about google search result links giving mystic redirection links. (http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2011-12/msg00186.html) Someone then suggested turning off javascript and it worked. Today I tried to copy to the clipboard a google search link but again a redirection link was the result. I checked my browser (opera 10.61) settings for google site and javascript is turned off. Have google changed something recently? How could I get the normal link URLs?
