[opensuse] web filter for protecting children

Hi, what are your favorite tools and procedures to project your children from internet junk? Last time I looked a couple of years ago, the installation of transparent proxies with filtering for junk pattern involved a lot of manual tweaking the system (aka messing). I really hope, that this has changed meanwhile. How save are these measures? Do paid services improve this situation significantly? Hi, apart from some minor glitches during install, a few major issues persist, but unfortunately, since it's a birthday present for my niece (11th of May), I'm a bit in hurry :-( In order of urgency: * sound doesn't work yast2 detected and setup properly two devices during initial setup, but I didn't notice the new "use as primary sound device" option, hence I've deleted one, but now, one only of them is setup properly, if I try to setup both in yast2 again. [opensuse] How to disable alt-enter=maximize in Xterm under 11.4?

If I do the same on gnome-terminal, it does nothing - so it must be a "feature" of xterm, which 11.2 did not have. Indeed, it is not listed on the desktop shortcuts. How do I disable it? It interferes with Midnight-Commander, alt-enter is used to copy filename to the command line. - ---- I posted this question in the forums, and they already found for me the same complain in Debian. [opensuse] How to update Kmenu in KDE4

In my Kmenu which I run in the classic form I find a lot of programs that I have removed and some that I have double, like kmail. I want to have the actual programs in my menu and get rid of the double entrances and old deleted programs. From earlier days I remember something like ksycoca which would rebuild the menu. [opensuse] help with ATI Radeon 5470

hello everyone, i have there 3 ati machines: one with mobility radeon 3200, another with mobility radeon 4200, but the new one has mobility radeon 5470 and i am unable to configure it as i've made with the others: just click on http://opensuse-community.org/ati.ymp and the it adds the correct mirrors. but not on this new machine, if i do that i'll lost X forever, will have to use failsafe and then remove/purge the package and the mirror. IIRC, that behavior is not new to 11.4. But it's a long time ago that I tried to use Squid to cache downloads, nowadays I share the zypp/cache directory via NFS. [opensuse] Dual graphics heads, mirrored content?

Hi Folks, I've never had to mess around with dual-headed systems very much, but now I have a requirement to drive a 60-inch monitor in a conference room setting. We'd like to have a desktop with a 24-inch screen on a table, and have that display mirrored to the larger wall-hung monitor. What you see on the small screen should be the same as the large. We don't want the two monitors to make one larger functional workspace, or to have two separate X sessions. We need a mirror. I've seen Windows laptops do this, but nvidia-settings doesn't seem to support it. Anyone have any experience doing this? [opensuse] New 11.4 install on new Toshiba laptop just fails

Yesterday I received two new laptops, both Toshiba L675 with Windows 7. This morning I tried to install openSUSE 11.4 without touching any of the default settings. The installation went fine, but the system was not able to boot up afterwards (after stage1 had finished). I suspect graphics is the problem as a saw a weird dotted line being written across the splash-screen before the system halted.
