[opensuse] 11.4 on MSI CR650 = disaster
Hi, apart from some minor glitches during install, a few major issues persist, but unfortunately, since it's a birthday present for my niece (11th of May), I'm a bit in hurry :-( In order of urgency: * sound doesn't work yast2 detected and setup properly two devices during initial setup, but I didn't notice the new "use as primary sound device" option, hence I've deleted one, but now, one only of them is setup properly, if I try to setup both in yast2 again. The devices are detected as: 15: PCI 01.1: 0403 Audio device [Created at pci.318] Unique ID: mnDB.SblQee99PEF SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.1 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:01.1 Hardware Class: sound Model: "ATI Audio device" Vendor: pci 0x1002 "ATI Technologies Inc" Device: pci 0x1314 SubVendor: pci 0x1462 "Micro-Star International Co., Ltd." This is an RTL8188 - afaict, it's not supported by 11.4 out-of-the-box, but there is a driver in staging for rtl8187 and others, it might work for 8188 too. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (16.4°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ok, Install Kernel:HEAD and try again, then show your results. zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_11.4 newkernel zypper dup --from newkernel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Did installed the tumbleweed kernel, since I also harvested random X-server terminations (#692622), and did upgrade from X11:XOrg. As long as I don't use any 3D (screen saver), it's looks fine now (also disabled all screen effects). Sound and wireless is doing fine, now, too.
