Has anyone tried the wdm display manager enabled for remote host logins? If so, how do you get the list of available remote hosts? I've got the wdm working alright for local X sessions, but I can not find a way to get the list of available remote hosts to login to. Any input appreciated. /Lars Stavholm PS I've verified that the remote hosts are there and accepting connections by means of kdm3. It works nicely. [opensuse] Has dual-boot changed?

So I bought this fancy new motherboard for my wife's machine, She uses Windows xp because she isn't very adept at computers and doesn't want to have to deal with two different systems (the school system uses xp). When I tried to find her copy of xp, I couldn't, so I went ahead and installed 11.3. Later, I found the installation disks and installed xp, expecting to do as I had before, booting into the 11.3 install disks. Tried, failed. I was expecting a vaguely remembered option to "repair installed system", or some such, which isn't on either the net install disk or the complete iso. I'd rather not have to reinstall suse, even if I could be sure that would solve all my problems. So, googling "suse xp dual boot", I find several references to such a feature on ubuntu and some others, but I also hit a scary comment that substituting the xp bootloader is risky, and it's better to modify it to give the option to boot linux (bkpavan.wordpress.com, apcmag.com, www.wellho.net) It's been some months, but I set my laptop up with dual-boot using what really looks like the suse grub bootloader. Has something changed, or am I worrying too much, or...? I found several references to dual-boot on the wiki, but they're all about using or setting up something else after the dual-boot is set up. Where is this "rescue" system referred to in the ubuntu web, and that I clearly remember having before? And is it really so dangerous to simply substitute the xp bootloder with grub? [opensuse] Sound doesn't work after user switch

OpenSuse 11.3 KDE 4.5.1 HDA Intel VT1708S After I switch to another user (also KDE) both doesn't have sound. My player still doesn't pay attention to it and plays music, but I hear nothing. I have to restart alsasound to make it work again. Any suggestions? [opensuse] running program on remote computer

I want to run KMyMoney on a remote computer. The files reside on a laptop, and I want to be able to edit them from my desktop. Both are running Opensuse 11.2, and both are on the same local network; both have KMyMoney installed. What is the easiest way of doing this? And do I need to worry about overwriting changes if KMyMoney is open on both machines at the same time? I hope this is an easy answer question. [opensuse] kde 4.5 - did a dbus update come with that?

All, I see there is now a repo just for kde 4.5 on OS 11.3 http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/45/openSUSE_11.3/ I'm intriguied, but I also read that upgrading can cause problems if you don't also update to a new version of dbus. And that new version of dbus was not in OBS as of a couple weeks ago. Any update on that? [opensuse] shorewall package

Hi All, I was just wondering, does no one miss the lack of a shorewall package in a opensuse repo? I can install shorewall but getting the rpm from shorewall.net but ideally it would be great to have it packaged in a opensuse repo. I'm surprised because it is the default firewall on mandriva(and works really well there), and IMHO I find it to be a great firewall program, and better than the default opensuse firewall. I'm interested in other peoples thoughts on this matter? Perhaps(likely) I should log a feature request at https://features.opensuse.org ... PS. [opensuse] wiki software

I use wikis as a kind of personal notebook to provide an index and reference to all my other information. So they're quite important to me. I originally started with kwiki and then moved to mediawiki. I recently moved to opensuse 11.2 and discovered that mediawiki was no longer provided. I'm reluctant to install and maintain from upstream because of the extra hassle. This is just a very important tool to me and I need reliable, low-maintenance tools. I found a copy of mediawiki in home:Michael_Knight/openSUSE_11.2 so I installed that and it appeared to work, until I tried to log in, when I got PHP errors. It looks like they are well-known and fixed in later versions of mediawiki. So that build should be removed from the repository, IMHO. That leaves me with the problem of what to do now. I just used webpin to see what the alternatives are and discovered that there are apparently no wiki systems supported on opensuse! Just add-ons for various systems. This seems like a major functional omission so I'm hoping somebody can tell me that I've missed something. I also know that the opensuse.org wiki is built on mediawiki, so I'm a bit surprised that there isn't a build of the version that is used. I notice that Synaptic shows that Ubuntu supports several wiki systems. I'm hoping to discover that opensuse supports at least one. [opensuse] Frequent hangs in 11.3 + 4.5 continue

There was some discussion in the past few weeks about frequent freezes of the mouse and keyboard. See thread "This guy _really_ likes kde 4.5". I have tried various changes of kernel, and am now back on 2.6.34.7-0.3. I have also upgraded dbus to 1.4, but the problems continue unchanged. If anyone else who experienced the same problems found a solution, I would be grateful for a pointer.
