[opensuse] rebuilding conky from srpm, configure fails - no iwlib.h (but it is there) howto fix?

Guys, I building conky from the 11.1 src.rpm and the rebuild fails with the following iwlib.h error, but iwlib.h is there: <snip> checking iwlib.h presence... no checking for iwlib.h... no configure: error: iwlib.h header not found error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.33117 (%build) RPM build errors: InstallSourcePackage: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 6b9d6523 Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.33117 (%build) 13:26 alchemy:~/suse/pkg/111> locate iwlib.h /usr/include/iwlib.h How do I modify the spec/etc.. to fix this?? -- David C. [opensuse] kernel problems

I am currently using kernel 2.6.34-12-desktop. I tried upgrading to 2.6.34.4 and found that X would not work. Downgrading resolved that issue. So I was pleased to see a new kernel out 2.6.34.7 However on trying this update my system wouldn't boot. It gives the following error message. mount: unknown filesystem type 'ext4' Has the new kernel not been built with support for ext4? Has anyone else updated to the new kernel and found this problem with ext4? Is there a simple solution or do I need to recompile the kernel? Thanks in advance. [opensuse] openSuSE to be sold to Vmware?

Hi Folks, The Register is reporting rumors that Vmware will be buying SuSE within the next few weeks: <http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/09/15/novell_buyout_rumor/> It sounds like a good fit, with potential for SuSE to become better funded. This is timely news for me, since 11.3 finally got my blood boiling to the point I installed Ubuntu on a customer's laptop a few days ago. I tried 64-bit 11.3 on a Sony VAIO VGN-FW200 and had numerous issues. The display would freeze to the point it required power-off cycling, the suspend on lid close didn't work (producing heat all the time) and the tap feature on the mouse pad didn't work. An upgrade to KDE 4.5 mostly fixed the display freezing (still the occasional hang), but I was only able to get 50-fps (glxgears) on the Intel video chipset. The video driver installed was a "legacy" Intel thing for which I couldn't find a better fit. Bah! On went Kubunto as slick as snails through a goose. EVERYTHING worked! I was even able to automatically install the Flash plugin in Firefox when prompted! Glxgears reported 500-fps. I then tried Kubunto which wasn't quite as seamless as the Gnome. I think I'll put Gnome back on, the user isn't very sophisticated. This is very disappointing. I've been using SuSE since 5.2 and I've recommended it to many people because of the ease and reliability of installation. Now it's obvious that things have slipped. Maybe Vmware can pump some $$$ back into the basics? Will I still use openSuSE? Yes, for me. But I can't honestly say the same thing for my customers any more. [opensuse] pulseaudio eats more then 30% of CPU

Opensuse 11.3 KDE 4.5 No music is playin right now, but pulseaudio process eats more then 30% of CPU. Exiting my player doesn't help. Only sudo rcalsasound restart helps for some time. I can't cath the moment, when the problems begins. I just work, sufr and it happens. Any suggestions? Yep, in two dozens of emails sent to this list, I'm classified as spammer. It happens with the copy that my postfix sends to gmail, with authentication, and which fetchmail gets back from gmail. [opensuse] How to copy a file to my printer?

I still have some files with embedded printer instructions from dos. In dos I would copy that file to "lpt1" or "prn" and the printout would be processed. [opensuse] Postfix: unwanted attempts to use LDAP

Hi all. New install of 11.3. I "made the mistake" of using Yast2 to configure Postfix, which I've always ever done by hand (main.cf, etc.) before. Now I have /var/log/mail full of Sep 17 12:00:03 walkies postfix/master[22681]: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - Server is unavailable I have no LDAP setup at all and don't want one. I find no mention of LDAP in the whole /etc/postfix dir (outside of comments) nor in /etc/sysconfig/postfix. Any ideas? TIA. [opensuse] Moving to IPv6

Some of you may have noticed me talking about IPv6 lately. IPv6 is coming and is necessary, as IPv4 addresses are estimated to reach exhaustion within a year. Everyone, particularly those managing web sites or business networks, should be making plans to support IPv6 ASAP. I realize that many ISPs do not yet support IPv6, so some method, such as using a tunnel broker, is required while waiting for ISPs to get up to date. I use gogoNET http://gogonet.gogo6.com. Another is Hurricane Electric http://he.net and there are others. In the mean time, call your ISP and ask about when IPv6 will be available. Then ask them why they're behind the times. ;-) Some hosting sites have IPv6 available, so all you'd have to do is use it. DNS servers will require AAAA record support, but BIND has supported that for several years. Here's a link to an article about moving to IPv6, with some more links to other articles. http://www.itworldcanada.com/news/ipv6/141456 BTW, for some reason, Seamonkey, on either Linux or Windows, does not like this site. Firefox and IE work fine. On my own network, I use OpenSUSE 11.0 (soon to be updated) on an old computer for my firewall. I use the tunnel to get a subnet with 2^72 addresses and all computers on my network, including my smart phone, get an IPv6 address automagically.
