[opensuse] How to hotplug/automount USB stick on openSUSE 11.3 `Minimal X Window' installation

openSUSErs Having sucesfully installed openSUSE 11.3 `Minimal X Window' installation and done update manual mount of USB stick is straight forward and eg lsusb shows the device without any problems. However, I simply can't figure out how to enable hotplugging (or auto- mount, really not sure what is the proper phrasing) in the following sense: upon insertion of USB stick the OS should automatically mount and make the device available on /media/WhateverAppropriate irrespective of user. I've been over various discussions/posts on the web but didn't find conclusive description on what core mechanism is supposed (I sense that historically there has been different approaches to hotplugging ...) to be responsible of hotplugging on openSUSE 11.3. It may simply be that a package is not being installed now that I've chosen a `Minimal X Window' installation. [opensuse] Banshee for 11.2 missing

Hello list, Still using 11.2 on "real" system, whereas 11.3 keeps going on "virtual" . Wonder why Banshee has been wiped away from Banshee/11.2 while it is still present inside 11.1 and 11.3 repos. Then, can I use 11.3 repo to update my current Banshee 11.2? [opensuse] OT slightly: Manually recognizing SPAM emails

Because I have a business and don't want to take the chance of deleting something I may want to get, I have been using the IP address as well as a few keywords to build my own spam control - so far blocking about 99%. I've tried googling many ways and not getting anything I'm looking for. However, is there any tell tale signs in the email headers to look for ? Any website that tells how to block spam using info from the headers ? Hello, I have oS 11.3 and oS 11.1 (both 32-bit) installed on my desktop. The computer itself is relatively new (4-5 month) but I re-used some old HW from my old PC, in particular TV card, that is probably 6-7 years old (Lifeview FlyVideo 98). The TV card works fine with 11.1. And after that I can only reboot and then TV card works again. IRQ # 17 information: 17: 1701 1704 IO-APIC-fasteoi pata_jmicron, bttv0 (same on 11.3 and 11.1) I thought it might be one of the problems of kernel 2.6.34 and installed 2.6.35.1-1-desktop, but the problem persists. The message about disabling IRQ comes from "spurious interrupt" handler. I've googled and saw that people complained on interrupts disabling with different kernel versions, but in most cases the reasons were either bad HW or unsupported modes of HW. In this case I believe HW is OK, since I do not see the issue in 11.1. Any idea on how to investigate this issue? [opensuse] Frequent Seamonkey crashes.

[opensuse] gimp-remote absent

Attempting to open Gimp, I immediately got n error message saying: ***** KDE could not open gimp-remote-2.2 Could not find gimp-remote executable ***** There is no file gimp-remote on the system (which is oS v11.1. I have never seen this message before, though I have ofen used Gimp. [opensuse] Cannot mount Olympus x-750 camera

Hi, Just noticed that I cannot get my Olympus X-750 camera mounted on openSUSE 11.2 and openSUSE 11.3 when I connect the camera via USB. Same camera with same cable mounts with no problem on a system running openSUSE 11.1. When I connect the camera the USB connection is detected and a dialog is displayed providing options to take action. When selecting F-Spot an error is displayed "Cannot write to port". When selecting a Nautilus file browser window, the Nautilus window is displayed and apparently the content is recognized as picture data as the window displays the following message: "The media contains digital photos" and a button to start F-Spot is shown. However, the following message is then displayed (from Nautilus): "The folder contents could not be displayed. Sorry could not display all the contents of "FE190/X750": Failed to get file list: -35: Error writing to port" Also when I run "fdisk -l" the device does not show up in the list. Any help/ideas in fixes/debugging this problem is welcome. [opensuse] RADVD, RRDNS and IPv6

I have IPv6 enabled on my network, using 6in4 tunneling to a tunnel broker. On my firewall (OpenSUSE 11.0) radvd is used to advertise the IPv6 info to computers on my network. However, it does not seem to be advertising the IPv6 DNS server provided by the tunnel broker. The file /etc/radvd.conf includes these lines, which are supposed to advertise the DNS: RDNSS 2001:5c0:1000:11::2 2001:5c0:1001::194 { AdvRDNSSPreference 8; AdvRDNSSOpen off; AdvRDNSSLifetime 30; }; In order to use an IPv6 DNS, I have to manually add it to resolv.conf, instead of getting it from radvd. [opensuse] System freezes during Install of 11.3

During the Create User spot of the install YaST2 tries to retrieve "cracklib-dict-full.rpm" and does not return (system appears frozen). Had to push the reset button. Anyone see this problem and if so, what did you do? Thanks, Duaine Seems like you are using Thunderbird to access mail from a third party POP server. you can use SpamAssassin or SpamBayes which has a Thunderbird plugin. With both you can "train" the software to reject what you consider to be spam. You can find spambayes on sourceforge. I used to use it before building my own mail server.
