[opensuse] yast2 fonts became strange

Hello: I have installed font packages and now fonts of yast2 titles, like "Starting the Software Manager", "Hardware Information" etc. are different and ugly. How cold I trace which font is used for these titles and set it back to the original one? [opensuse] How to change group ownership of /var/log/messages

Hi all. I use the tail widget on KDE4 to keep a watch on /var/log/messages. This file is normally readable only by root. My normal user account is a member of the wheel group and if I chgrp /var/log/messages to wheel then I can monitor it on the desktop, however this change does not survive a reboot (or syslog rolling over the file) because every time the file is created it is created as root:root instead of root:wheel. Is there a way to tell the system to use the wheel group instead of root for /var/log/messages? I tried setting SYSLOG_NG_PARAMS="-g wheel" in /etc/sysconfig/syslog and then restarting syslog but this still reset the group ownership to root. [opensuse] Lenovo T410s installs 11.2; boot freezes with black screen

Today, I'm simply hoping somebody can point me in the right direction for a bit more detailed support. I may not have joined the right mailing list. Problem: I have a brand new T410s, which happily installs from the NET-x86_64 iso, yet freezes on boot. Somewhere in the boot process (after all of the textual goodness scrolls by), it appears to try to switch to graphical mode, and then it freezes. I can boot to single user mode, but can't seem to figure out how to bring up the network ('/etc/init.d/network start' doesn't work) With some casual googling, I found one suggestion that I try 11.3, which I did, but the installer didn't even complete. I'm not sure what next steps I should take. Questions: - Should I join another mailing list? - Should I install another kernel? - How can I bring up a network connection? [opensuse] to map ISO_Level_3_Shift to a different key without using xmodmap?

Apple iBook G4 with OpenSuSE 11.1, italic keyboard layout. I found non of the keys on the keyboard maps to ISO_Level_3_shift. The "Option" key (which is the key that have "Alt" printed on its cap) is the key that should map to ISO_Level_3_shift, the very key function like "AltGr" on some keyboards. I can easily do that by using .xmodmap: keycode 64 = ISO_Level3_Shift The question is: is there another way of doing this without using .xmodmap? Reason of not using .xmodmap: I suffered a lot from this setup. Having spent a day or two on trying to get xmodmap and think it is a dead-end: 1. .xmodmap isn't always loaded, neither by gnome automatically nor by additional item in gnome-session. There are bug report of former (a gnome bug) and latter occasionally work -> unexplainable. 2. xmodmap have no effect on JAVA application (with IBM-JRE), while jEdit is my daily 1st important software. Hi all, Just exploring the kiwi-software again.. I was wondering, does anybody allready has experience with making an bootable usb-stick with an encrypted root+swap? afaicr, it should be someting like this: first partition: /boot second partition encrypted LVM and within the lvm: root, swap and any other partitions. Question however is, how to feed this (and the luks-passwords) to KIWI.. Anybody invented this wheel before? [opensuse] Help - really! my xdpyinfo shows 2880x900 pixels, I need 1440x900 - how/where?

Guys, I thought I had this solved using amdcccle to toggle resolutions to get my display back to the right size, but every time I restart X, my laptop is using dimensions of 2880x900. The radeonhd driver is fine, the fglrx driver is the one giving me fits. This started after I plugged in my projector to my laptop and went to configure the second monitor. Now it is stuck. The xdpyinfo shows: 18:32 alchemy:~> xdpyinfo | grep 900 dimensions: 2880x900 pixels (739x231 millimeters) The horizontal value is 2X what it should be. I have deleted the amdpcs database and using the default gives the same 2880?? I have rolled in my old xorg.conf - no change. This dimension value must be set somewhere? Now backgrounds can't be set, the logout confirmation splits the display and ksnapshot tries to take a screenshot of twice my screen: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/img/ss/kde/ksnapshot2X.jpg Using amdcccle to toggle from 1440x900 to 1152x864 and then back fixes the problem temporarily: 18:47 alchemy:~> xdpyinfo | grep 900 dimensions: 1440x900 pixels (367x230 millimeters) But then when I restart x (logout/login), I'm back to 2880x900. [opensuse] Installing Calibre ebook reader

I would like to install this application on oS 11.1. There is a page that claims to enable this: <http://lizards.opensuse.org/2009/03/01/reading-ebooks-with-calibre/> and speaks highly of Calibre, but clicking on the "Download" button discloses that it has been removed. (There is no garbage removal function to junk pages when they are no longer functional.) The web is filled with articles about problems encountered in installing Calibre, which is unfortunate, because the salesman-talk about it is really top notch.
