[opensuse] kde 4.5.3 - why does pager rows get reset to 1 on every upgrade?

Guys (Will in particular) I updated to kde 4.5.3 and just like the upgrade to 4.5.2 the kicker pager row setting was reset to 1. So I reset it to 2 again. [opensuse] Need help getting a wireless adapter to work

Hi - I recently acquired an Encore 802-11n USB wireless adapter and installed in on the Windoz side of my dual boot laptop. Now I want to get it working under SuSE11.2. I installed it using Yast, which recognized it and seem to install it without a hitch. I installed/configured it for using with ifup/ifdown and got no complaints.. Afterward, I used Yast to install any software updates, and it detected and installed a new kernel firmware package, which I figure must have been for the necessary driver to support the adapter. Both ifconfig and iwconfig report its presence and did not indicate anything is wrong... Of course I also rebooted just to be sure the new kernel was running. But no joy with getting it to actually send/receive anything over the wireless network. Any guru out there want to guide me into the light and get this thing working? [opensuse] Need wireless USB adapter recommendations

Hello - I am going to start this conversation as a separate thread, in parallel with a thread I started to try and get my Encore 802-11n USB wireless adapter working... (am running out of time with my wife who is unhappy about me stringing an Ethernet cable across our living room to my laptop, and internet Google searches is leading me to believe there may be serious problems with the Ralink drivers that I need for this adapter.) That said, can anyone recommend a wireless N USB adapter that just simply works out of the box for openSuSE 11.2? I looked at the HCL on the openSuSE list, which is a bit dated with most entries supporting wireless G. And since I may have gotten burned by trying one USB stick using the Ralink chipset, not sure I want to try another. Much appreciate any and all words of wisdom offered! [opensuse] KDE: new applications start in background

Hello, Sometimes, my KDE desktop gets into a mode where new windows are opened behind already existing windows without the focus. I find this mode very annoying, and have no idea how to switch back to the "normal" mode, where new windows are created on top of existing windows and are given the focus automatically. I have no idea how this strange mode is activated. I guess it is some kind of key combination, since (AFAICS) it almost always happens when I'm switching between applications/desktops/KDE-Konsole-terminals back and forth very fast with ALT-TAB, CTRL-Fx, SHIFT-left/right keys and hit some other key by accident. [opensuse] apparently Suse-Linux can't properly use quadcore processor???

Hello, I'm here experiencing an alarming problem (not just KDE or so, but the kernel): I have a laptop with a quadcore i5 processor, but the system doesn't want to use it! That's not good, since I rely on doing computational experiments with my laptop, and, of course, I purchased the quadcore laptop to do exactly that. More precisely: A month ago, after having installed Suse 11.3, I already experienced that Linux hesitates to use all four cores, say, it puts the first four processes on the first core etc., never used all. But after running experiments for one day or so, it "warmed up", and from then on it worked. I didn't turn it off for a month, and it worked as expected: for 1, 2, 3, 4 running processes it used 1, 2, 3, 4 cores, and more processes then led to equal distribution. The day before yesterday I made a complete update, and I noticed something about a "kernel optimised for laptops". That made me already worry (what could this mean other than energy saving and such stuff --- while I need full power), but I hoped the best. However since since it keeps at least one core idle, apparently independent of how many processes you are running (that is, long time processes --- shorter ones apparently get scheduled on the idle processor). And actually most of the time 2 cores (from the four) are kept idle, so that for example 8 long-time processes are cramped on 2 cores! Another thing which stopped working after the update is the temperate measurement of "Bubblemoon": In order for it to work, before I had to restart it several times, with several settings, but at some time it started working. Now the temperature measurements are just complete nonsense. Could there be a relation? Hope somebody can help. I can not imagine that Linux can't handle a quadcore processor! [opensuse] Software Requirement Specification (SRS) software on openSUSE? [perhaps a bit OT?]

Background to question: As I am sure is the case for most developers, I am trying to improve the way we go about making a Software Requirement Specification (SRS). These are never fun things to make. But the lack of a proper one is often a large contributing factor to the failure of many efforts. There are IEEE/ISO standards that define an approach to the dread SRS. In the case of these standards (e.g., IEEE Standard 830-1998), the SRS is constructed in such a way that only a professional SRS writer can really make one. And I personally have doubts even then... We are trying to involve the customer in this process as much as we can. We have been looking at things like: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/awdtools/doors/webaccess/ http://www.erequirements.com/app?service=page/Home The IBM solution is, as one might expect, complete. The erequirements solution looks promising, but runs on their servers, which means that our sensitive SRS content is not fully under our control. That could be a difficult sell here. I know there is openFATE. But that is mainly a feature request system. I mean, after a project is accepted, how is the SRS process managed? Is there one? 2. Has anyone come across a usable SRS system? By 'usable', I mean one that you really really use. Or at least one that you know someone is really really using? Sorry if this is a bit off topic.
