[opensuse] bash/expect - Help! I can't get around the prompt

Listmates, I am stumped. I can't automate an openssl call from a script and it's driving me nuts. Most of the openssl commands will accept here doc or the -passin option for passing the password to openssl and eliminating the user prompt, but the genrsa call is kicking my .... No matter what I try, I can't automate: openssl genrsa -des3 -out server.key 1024 I have tried: TPHRASE=somekey openssl genrsa -des3 -out server.key 1024 <<GENPSK $TPHRASE $TPHRASE GENPSK openssl genrsa -des3 -out server.key 1024 /usr/bin/expect - <<GENPSK expect ".*server.key:" send "$TPHRASE\n" expect ".*server.key:" send "$TPHRASE\n" GENPSK openssl genrsa -des3 -out server.key 1024 chat -v server.key: $TPHRASE\n server.key: $TPHRASE\n None give any errors and none work. All of the other openssl calls work just fine: openssl req -new -key server.key -out server.csr -passin stdin <<GENCSR $TPHRASE $COUNTRY $STATE $LOCAL $ON $OU $CN $EMAIL GENCSR openssl rsa -in server.key.protected -out server.key -passin stdin <<REMPW $TPHRASE REMPW Can anyone think of another way to pass the password to 'openssl genrsa -des3 -out server.key 1024' that would get around this problem?? [opensuse] BASH Help -- howto provide automatic input to program called in script?

Listmates (also cc'ed to dnh) How do I provide a response to a program called from within a script from within the script itself? Sort of like a password chat program waiting on the prompt? Specifically, I have automated setting up a self signed server certificate for apache2 calling openssl from the script: # Generating Private Server Key openssl genrsa -des3 -out server.key 1024 # Generate Certificate Signing Request (CSR) openssl req -new -key server.key -out server.csr # Remove Passphrase from Key echo -e "\n\t${lightblue}Removing Passphrase From Key To Eliminate PW Request cp server.key server.key.protected openssl rsa -in server.key.protected -out server.key Each of the openssl requests ask either to create a password or to enter a password. Hi . well yet another nail in the coffin of KDE4 . I have just been trying the so called activivities out and being polite about it , it is a total pile of crap , People had been asking for tha ability to have a different set of icons on each virtual desktop and what do we get Click on the Peanut zoom out click on another activity click on zoom in what the hell is that all about what is wrong with desktop 1 Ham radio icons Desktop 2 Office icons Desktop 3 games icons ect ect ect the offering so far is no better than shutting the session down and restarting as a differnet user will someone please LISTEN to what is being asked for and action it Pete -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3. List, Sandy: I am trying to figure out why different SSL fingerprints are returned for a dovecot imap mailbox depending on whether you get the fingerprint from a fetchmail dump with: /usr/bin/fetchmail -a -v -n --folder spam-learn or whether you get the fingerprint directly from the cert: openssl x509 -in /etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem -noout -fingerprint Am I looking at different fingerprints? the mail.domain fingerprint versus the SHA1 fingerprint?
