[opensuse] Tesseract OCR ? Anyone used it?

Listmates, The AvantFax package has the ability to perform ocr on the faxed documents it receives. The package it uses is tesseract. I have never heard of this package before, but it provides the command line interface to ocr I have been looking for for a long time. Basically: tesseract image.tif output -l lang Yes, that's right -- any tif image. I am working to build and install it and test the thing. If anyone has used it, I would appreciate the feedback. [opensuse] linux virtualisation

hello :-)) I plan, in some month (time to think :-) to host several organisations on a single hardware host. For price reason, it's a light HW (http://kimsufi.com).I already have one of these servers, so I can experiment. The better solution, in term of hosts indepency is virtual servers. Virtualbox don't seems a solution on low end HW. I don't really understand how Xen works. Is it possible to have several xen sessions running on the same host? an other solution is vserver (http://linux-vserver.org/Welcome_to_Linux-VServer.org) I know this works very well on high end HW (I use it as a client, not configured by me). But this have to run on distant hosted HW, with openSUSE 11 or any other linux/bsd that can be managed (and installed) remotely. Does somebody here have *practical* experience of such thing? I have no need of graphical interface, most hosts will use somesort of wiki od SPIP CMS. [opensuse] Left Control key

Hi Everybody. I'm hoping that somebody out there can tell me how to unmap the left control key on my ThinkPad T61p running openSUSE 11.0. I suffer from some paralysis in my left hand and find that sometimes when typing I will lose control of one or more of the fingers on my left hand which then does something frustrating like press CTRL-Z (Imagine how frustrating it is to have the last edits suddenly disappear.) [opensuse] Login Screen Won't

Dell XPS M1530 laptop, openSuSE 11.1 32-bit, KDE 4.2 (installed as default without KDE3). Working very well until recently (12 hours ago) when I updated from ../KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop using yast2. Now, when the graphical login screen comes up, I get a message saying "Theme not usable with authentication method 'Generic'" When I OK that, the login screen comes up but without any of the entryboxes & I have to do a console login and startx from there. I don't have a theme set for the login screen; and reverting to the default desktop theme has no effect. After the desktop locks I can't unlock it either (no text entrybox, but the message "unlocking failed"), and I then have to kill X and go through another login as above. It seems a fair bet that something in the update broke things, and no doubt it will get fixed in due course. But is there anything I can do in the meantime to deal with it? (I've looked at pam documentation, but have retired defeated.) [opensuse] volume control - KDE4.2 - opensuse 11.1 - alsa -xine

Hi My pc has developed a couple of volume control issues. 1. i cannot get kmix or alsamixer to mute the sound although the icon shows muted. The volume is muted slightly as you can hear the volume drop a bit when you press "mute". 2. raising or lowering the volume only makes a slight difference to the actual volume. There is even still a good volume if i lower it to 0%. This also happens in Yast/Hardware/Sound. I am sure this was fine last week. I tend to update to newer versions whenever i log on so i am guessing something has changed. Anyone else having the same issue? [opensuse] encrypted partition access

I sent this about a month ago with no response. Can anyone help? I created an encrypted partition when I set up my 11.1 distro. Now, unlike my other computers, which just give a line in the scrolling text to enter the key, on this one, I get a pop up window asking for the key. When I enter it, it does not accept the key. After a couple of weeks of this, I decided that I might have mixed up a key with another, so ... I went to the Yast partitioner and reformatted the /dev/sda8 partition with a new key. Same results. The window is not accepting the key.
