[opensuse] HDTV monitor

Has anyone tried using a 1920 x 1080 HDTV monitor with OpenSUSE 11.0? I'm looking at the Acer X233H 23" monitor. [opensuse] Test Compiler - 64-bit or 32-bit

Hello there, I am hoping that some one can point me in the right direction here. I have a program that compiles under both 32-bit and 64-bit architecture. What I want to be able to do is determine which way the program was compiled either 32-bit or 64-bit, similar to 'file' command, but called from within the executable itself. I use the system call 'uname' to determine the machine architecture that the program is executing on; does anyone know of a similar call to determine which compilation. [opensuse] OpenSUSE updater problem

Hi, For a few weeks my online-update applet in the system tray has indicated that new updates are available. But clicking on 'details' it shows only the following line: 'Dummy patch for applet state' and won't search for real updates anymore. If I try to install the dummy, the tray icon seems to be updating 'forever'. I can only make the applet work by restarting and manually forcing it to check for updates, so it can show the available new packages which can then be installed. But after a few days 'Dummy patch' returns for some reason. I know the site is not sponsored or controlled by Novell, opensuse, or any other such entity. However, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what happened with the site layout. It went from great to awesome and painful on the eyes to try and read. I've tried it in several browsers, but same thing. No more author photos, a lot of whitespace, etc. Can someone shed some light on whether this is permanent or not. Somehow between Monday and today, I've lost the sound on my system 11.1. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. [opensuse] quicklaunch - convenience at your fingertips!

Listmates, For those that haven't used the quicklaunch widget, you need to take a look. The benefit of quicklaunch is that you can put 20-30 apps at your immediate fingertips in the space of 5-6 icons on the plasma panel (one-click access to all your favorite apps) Example: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/dt/kde4/quicklaunch/quicklaunch.jpg In order to add it to your plasma (kicker) panel, rt-click the panel and choose 'Panel Options' -> 'Add Widgets', scroll down and choose 'Quicklaunch'. It will appear at the far right end of your panel instead of where your mouse was due to a design flaw in the panel. To move it where you want it, go throught the same process, rt-click the panel choose 'Panel Options' -> 'Panel Settings' then you can move things around. (be careful not to click outide of the panel or you will have to navigate back to 'Panel Options' once again. As a matter of preference, I put the quicklaunch right next to the start menu with the pager on its right: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/dt/kde4/quicklaunch/quicklaunch- location.jpg of course you can put it anywhere, but when I think "launch application" I'm already programmed to go to the bottom left corner of the screen. I put systray, device notifier, clock and cashew at the other end of the panel. Just a personal preference: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/dt/kde4/quicklaunch/right-end-of-panel.… You can get rid of any other application icons you have on the panel, because they will now all go in quicklaunch. Also delete the show desktop icon -- you don't need it. If you set your pager settings correctly, then clicking on the current desktop in pager will "show desktop". (rt-click pager, pager options). To setup quicklaunch, right click it and choose Quicklaunch Settings. Set the visible icons to a sufficient number (I use 24). It won't expand until you put the icons in it. To add your applications to it, just right-click on the quicklauch above the icon where you would like the new icon to reside. (the new addition will push the current icon down (or to the right if it is in the bottom row) when you add it. After you choose add icon, you are presented with a small file open dialog (click on the floppy disk button). Navigate to /usr/share/applications or /usr/share/applications/kde4 to find the desktop file to add. (kde3 apps are in /opt/kde3/share/applications) Just repeat the process until you have the icons you want. It's not quite as good as putting a subtree from your menu in an icon on the panel, but it is a good substitute until Wills fix filters down. Try this quicklaunch approach, and I think you will find the convenience of the desktop improves quite a bit. Good luck ;-) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [opensuse] Beagle won't index Evolution email

I don't know if any one else is experiencing this, but I am running openSUSE 11.2 RC1 with the GNOME desktop. I've enabled the Beagle Indexing service and it has done a great job indexing my documents, system documentation, Firefox, but no Evolution information. I am using Evolution to connect to a Microsoft Exchange server at work (not IMAP or POP) but I do have it saving a local copy. [opensuse] Dragging windows to and from workspaces

Running GNOME on 11.2 RC1. For the longest time I remember being able to click on a window in the Workspace applet, clicking on a window and dragging it to a different workspace. This feature seems to be disabled because I can't move them at all. Now i have to right-mouse click on the window on the panel and click Move to another Workspace. [opensuse] Building F-Spot from source

Hi, after digicam went broke (and AFAIK they are not going to fix it for 11.0/KDE3), I decided to try f-spot. Unfortunately, the version, distributed for opensuse 11.0 is rather old - 0.5.xx, and lacks a lot of functionality. As I could not find build for 11.0 of the latest version, I decided to build if from source - and now I hit unresolvable dependecy problem. To build f-spot from source, it requires gtk+>=2.14, but the latest version I could find for opensuse 11.0 is 2.13 on the build service. Do someone have idea where to find gtk2 ver. >=2.14 for opensuse 11.0? Or for that matter - f-spot 0.6.1.13?
