[opensuse] second physical SATA not recognized by 11.2 RC1

On my AMD Phenom Quad with asus-Board and two physical SATA i have a problem with the second SATA which is not seen in any case, or working with the liveCD, or installing it. There is no way to see it, even the hardware-tool in yast doesn't see it. It only works with the first SATA. This problem is new, because with 11.0 and 11.1 everything was well. [opensuse] samsung unified driver configurator and network printer?

as a followup to my earlier post (which turned out not to be that hard after all), now i'm trying to figure out how to add a *network* printer to my SLES 11 system -- again, the same samsung scx-4826fn multifunction printer (MFP). from the CD that comes with the printer, i simply ran the linux install script, and i got the samsung unified driver configurator installed on the desktop via USB. it works just fine, installed the MFP, printed the test page, and so on. sweet. now i want to add the printer to the network as well since it has a network port. i plugged the printer into the net, then checked the DHCP leases on the router and, sure enough, a new lease. pinged that IP address, it responded and i verified it's the printer (192.168.1.177). but when i run the samsung utility, and search for network printers, none are found. if i try to add that net printer thru yast2, yast doesn't see it on the net. should it? i also see from the specs that it doesn't support IPP so i'm stuck with LPD, i guess i can try to configure it manually and see what happens. thoughts? advice? and i'm assuming i can have the same printer connected both via usb and on the net, yes? rday p.s. ok, that seemed to work being done manually by using the URI lpd://192.168.1.177/scx. but shouldn't i have expected yast2 printer configuration to have detected that printer? or am i expecting too much of printer configuration? -- ======================================================================== Robert P. [opensuse] OT: How? access my local apache2 through two routers?

Hi, I'm behind two routers 1) 192.168.0.1 and 2) 192.168.2.1 ip to 1) is 192.168.0.144 3) my machine is 192.168.2.3 The port 80 of 1) is routed to another computer Now I thought I can simply route port 81 on router 1) to port 81 on router 2): 192.168.0.144 TCP 81 / 81 Always And port 81 on 2) to port 80 on 3) now I can access my pages with 127.0.0.1/~karl 192.168.0.144:81/~karl so the port forwarding 81 to 80 from router 2) to my computer works but I still can't access the pages from the external IP of the 1st router How can I figure out what happens with the request to 1) on port 81? (side note -- i'm going to be asking bunches of silly questions as i'm preparing to eventually take the CLP 11 practicum on my way to getting my CNI. and *that* should scare you. :-) i can see from the list of issues covered in the novell CLP 11 practicum that IPv6 is part of that. so how many people here are using IPv6 on a serious basis in their IT infrastructure? not just dabbling but having it as a fundamental part of their networking already? and why? did you really get to a point where IPv4 simply couldn't do the job anymore? rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P. Devs, Is anyone building compiz 8.4 for 11.0-11.2? If so will it go in the X11:/XGL repo? It's been out for a while and 8.2 is still the last version available in buildservice. [opensuse] Dolphin in KDE 4.3.1 crashing?

Guys, My install of KDE 4.3.1 has dolphin segfaulting all the time. I installed lots of updates and rebooted the Machine a couple days ago. Per yast, it was built: Sun 04 Oct 2009 04:30:03 PM EDT, so it is very new. Since then Dolphin has been totally unreliable. It may relate to browsing samba servers, since that is about 80% of what I do from this machine. Are others seeing this? [opensuse] Weird arp problem

Hello listmates: I have an openSuse 11.1 box with multiple interfaces. One of these interfaces connects to a Cisco router which then connects via DSL to my ISP. There is an ip on the Linux interface and a corresponding IP on the cisco interface (of course) and both devices are setup with a netmask of 255.255.255.248. The default gateway for the Linux machine is set as the Cisco IP address. The Linux machine has another interface that connects to an inside network with a netmask of 255.255.255.0. The Linux machine runs iptables firewall and has ip forwarding turned on. I noticed that the Linux machine is sending ARP requests for almost all outside traffic to the Cisco router. This is one part of the conundrum. Shouldn't the Linux machine only arp for addresses it determines are on the local network? Whenever traffic has to be forwarded out to the Internet, the Linux machine sends an ARP for the destination address before TCP session setup. The second part of the conundrum is that the Cisco router actually answers and in the arp table of the Linux machine, I end up having hundreds of public IP addresses all associated with the MAC address of the Cisco router. Does anyone else see this? I would not have thought this type of arp'ing from Linux was standard behavior. [opensuse] Stale NFS lockfile after system crash

Hi, after a system crash, yast2 throws the following on me: ** (y2controlcenter-gnome:7997): WARNING **: error accessing /desktop/gnome/applications/y2cc-gnome/cc_actions_list [Failed to contact configuration server; som e possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)] The "system" menue after clicking on the "computer" button in Gnome has also disappeared. I have read a bunch of articles, but was not able to solve the problem. I did also kill /tmp/* and similar files, and have cleaned ~/.gconfd without any success.
