[opensuse] is there a specific SLE[SD] mailing list?

since i joined this list, i've pretty much been asking questions about my SLES 11 system since i didn't see a mailing list specifically for SLE 11. but i've been assuming that most of the concepts and functionality is mostly identical. is there a better list i should be on? thanks. rday p.s. upcoming questions will almost certainly be based on my studying madly for my CLP 11 practicum. so, in a fit of self-interested self-promotion, once i pass that, the next step will be getting my CNI (novell instructor) certification, at which point i'll be arranging to teach official suse linux courses around south-western ontario. if you're in that area and looking for certified suse training, give me a month or two and i should be ready to go. [opensuse] does saving the firmware test via SSH actually work?

as a test, i booted off of SLES 11, chose the firmware test, let it run to completion, got a bunch of diagnostics, then tried to save it via SSH. i was told that the scp failed, as a number of files did not exist (/root/results.txt, /root/resources.xml, /root/results.css). i popped over to another virtual console and, sure enough, they don't. shouldn't this have worked? or is there something obvious i might have done wrong? rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P. [opensuse] Drivers for Intel graphic card GMA 4500MHD

A thorough search of the Intel downloads pages failed to find a download source for drivers for the card GMA 4500MHD (or any other GMA cards). After several hours, I did find a remark that such drivers should be obtained from the download sources of ones own distribution. I have also made a Google search without finding anything, and searched the usual download repositories through YaST, also without success. [opensuse] what is "acpid: max C state" ?

Dear List, Occasionally my laptop (hp pavilion tx1000 with amd turion 64-bit dual core processor) freezes up during boot. In the screen the last line that occurs is something like this: acpid: max C state of processor 1 set to .. How could I fix this..? Giving some parameters to grub? [opensuse] querying the default samba setup for suse 11

for better or worse, i want to put together an incredibly beginner-level presentation on samba on suse 11, so it behooves me to actually figure out what i'm talking about. as a starting point, i wanted to start with sles 11 and do *nothing* more than start smb and nmb, using the stock smb.conf settings that come with it (since, as i read it, that default smb.conf has what appear to be reasonable settings that one can start playing with.) so, starting there, i wanted to do nothing more than show "nmblookup" querying the system itself. that stock smb.conf does not set a netbios name but, AIUI, if one does not set a netbios name, the hostname is used by default. the default hostname for this install is "sles11" so i just, on the sles 11 system itself, ran: # nmblookup sles11 querying sles11 on 192.168.1.255 name_query failed to find name sles11 # huh. given how i understand netbios name resolution to work, shouldn't that have found that server? if i use the actual IP address of myself, it works: # nmblookup -A 192.168.1.231 Looking up status of 192.168.1.231 SLES11 <00> - B <ACTIVE> SLES11 <03> - B <ACTIVE> SLES11 <20> - B <ACTIVE> ..__MSBROWSE__. <01> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE> WORKGROUP <1d> - B <ACTIVE> WORKGROUP <1e> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE> WORKGROUP <00> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE> MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00 # so ... what am i misunderstanding here? obviously, using the IP address works fine. so should i not be allowed to make the same query by the hostname/netbios name? just to be clear, this is the *only* samba-enabled system on the local network, and there is no WINS server. so what have i screwed up? rday ======================================================================== Robert P. [opensuse] how to search for packages, and filter out src packages?

Thank you so much for your patience and your set of instructions. I think it very important that my_clients be able to connect to Internet immediately. I'm not sure whether you do this for a living but my advice would be to take a usb dongle that works with openSUSE to each installation you do. In my area you can pick them up for around €2 They sell them as usb memory. [opensuse] installing virt stuff but not rebooting to the xen-enabled kernel

a nitpicky question here -- running SLES 11, decided to use yast to install all the virt hypervisor tools and, obviously, since that installed the xen-enabled kernel, i have to reboot to get that functionality. but before rebooting, in yast, i selected "Create Virtual Machines". nothing. no dialog. no error. i assume that's because i still haven't rebooted. but if i select "Virtual Machine Manager", i at least get a dialog box *telling* me that i can't connect to xen, maybe because i'm not running a xen kernel, etc. is there a reason that first attempt didn't say something similar? or is there something else happening there? it's always nice to get some feedback. rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P.
