We're continuing with this issue and I'm not even certain if it is an
issue. Our linux box (sles 9 or sles 10) opens a connection to the
mainframe (we have tcp offloading turned on since we turned it off and
it didn't change the issue), they talk, then the linux side sends a http
200 and immediately a FIN ACK before the mainframe can send anything.
This is causing exceptions on the mainframe side.
Is this really a problem and is there a way to tell the linux side to
back off? Thanks in advance

That's not what I asked. I didn't ask why msdos disklabel doesn't work.
I asked why you bothered to use _any_ disklabel or partition at all when
I told you in a previous post that in this case you don't need gpt
OR msdos disklabel, nor any partition within either one.
just mkfs <options> /dev/sdb
I'm not saying what you did was wrong exactly,
just that it's an unnecessary complication.

Brian, that is what was asked. You asked why and my response is the answer
to the why. Another responder to this post sent an interesting howto. Never
played with 'parted' at the CLI before and it was a good experience. It the
past, I've need to partition the HD before putting a filesystem on it; Yast
would fail if I didn't. Seemed consistent to make a partition, while getting
some experience playing with a new tool.
Actually, after rereading your post, you did mention making a disklabel,
"you can create a gpt disklabel in parted manually at the command line". You
also mentioned making smaller partitions, which was not something I wanted.
Next time, however, I'll write a filesystem to an un-partitioned disk and
give that a go.
Thanks,
James

I just did a clean install of 11.0 using the KDE3 LiveCD. When I try
to install MPlayer from the pacman repo I get an error saying that
libcucul.so.0
is needed but that nothing provides this. I had MPlayer installed on
this same machine before from the pacman repo with no problem using
this same livecd. If anyone has a suggestion, I'd appreciate it.
Thanx

Hi, I was really brave and I have my wife using Suse11, but I have a bit
of a prob. I've enabled Compiz and effects, which I believe was working
OK, but recently, the windows have started behaving strangely... (I
think she may have been playing, but of course, denies it!!) The
following is when using Konqueror: When you hover the mouse over the
'normal' close button (top-right X), the button gets a red border, and
the behaviour is not really predictable - it may close the window, but
more often than not, it'll bring another konqueror window to the top,
and then can't bring the previous back on top. The minimise and restore
buttons are not behaving 'normally', either.
Have temporarily fixed it by turning Compiz off, but that's a no-no as
well, 'cause the main thing she likes about suse/compiz is using the
Desktop cube.
Have tried turning of stuff and setting window decoration/behaviour to
defaults, but nothing seems to fix it..
Ideas?? Probably something really basic, but I can't find it...
Thanks in advance. John.

So I'm writing this from Windows Vista now, becuase I'm having some major
issues with openSUSE 11.0.
On my new laptop (specs at bottom of post), I've freshly installed openSUSE
11.0 w/ default GNOME software selection. During the installation everything
goes normal, with the exception that it doesn't detect my resolution (using
1024x768 instead of my laptop's resolution of 1600x900).
After first boot, the graphical GRUB menu comes up fine, but once openSUSE
boots, there's no bootsplash and the text looks like it's in an extremely
low resolution (640x480, perhaps?). The real kicker is when firstboot/the
graphical system is loaded, it completely begins going crazy. It goes into a
gray-streaked screen, which slowly begins fading into a dark gray streaks in
spots around the screen. Nothing comes up, no cursor, no text, nothing. Just
that fading screen.
Here's the relevent info:
Sony Vaio VGN-FW190
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8400
Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
16.4" (1600x900) TFT
All the help I can get will be greatly appreciated ;-)

I was wondering, now that Gnome 2.24 is released, is there a 1-click
install out there somewhere?

Hi
Is anyone using bonding on their NIC's on 11.0 ?
With 10.3 it's dead easy to do with yast :
-Never activate, never get an IP for the NIC's
-Create a bond and select the eth's a bond should contain.
In 11.0, fully updated, I'm doing the same, but there is no choice of
NIC's to add to the bond.
What am I missing ?
Thanks.

OpenSUSE10.3, NVIDIA, DellVostro1700.
I have a working suspend to RAM setup. But, 1 out of 20 times it fails
- it goes down as normal but when I open the lid of the notebook
(usually how I start it again), it just boots from the start, as if it
forgets that it was in suspend mode.
The logs show normal suspend procedure and then nothing else.
How can I determine if it is a BIOS or OS problem?
