[opensuse] Printing to PDF from Firefox - Something Broke

Summfing broke: I often print files from Firefox to PDF. I have been doing this for some time and on a regular basis (receipts for registration and whatnot) on my current system - openSUSE 10.3/KDE. I went to print - of all things - a registration for LinuxDay 2008. (http://www.novell.com/linux/linuxday/register.html) I no longer have the print-to-file option that I did with the option to select PDF or Postscript. I went ahead and selected the Print to File button next to the drop-down list of printers in the print dialog box. I was given simply the option of a name. I went ahead and selected myname.pdf. I ended up with a useless postscript file. What happened? What did I mess up? Here's the firefox I have: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.16) Gecko/20080716 SUSE/2.0.0.16-0.1 Firefox/2.0.0.16 I've included the messed up file. [opensuse] PDF File conversion

Hi, a couple of months ago I wrote about the large file sizes that I was getting when I converted a word .doc file to OO odt file, with the intention of later converting it to pdf. They were in the size of megabites. This is a bit of an ongoing saga for me, as this time I made up the newsletter for the organization using Open Office from the start, and then attempted to convert the odt file to pdf in linux. I ended up having to go back to windows in order to get the file sizes to a manageable size, the linux files were too large. Here is a rundown of what I did. 1. I made up the newsletter using Open Office. The final file size was 198kb. Not too bad, I thought that it was going to work out as I expected the file to be smaller yet when I converted that to a pdf file. 2. I converted the odt file to pdf. The resultant pdf file was 758.8kb. I am shooting for around 200kb, but will send a file up to 300kb. Any larger and it takes too long for the dialup users to download it. 3. I tried to play around with the pdf conversion process by reducing picture quality, and/or reducing the quality of the total pdf document. I produced two other pdf's this way, and believe it or not when I reduced the quality of the document to 50% it actually produced a larger file on my first attempt. That file was 789kb. The second attempt (30% quality) was 750 kb. I decided to save the newsletter odt file in doc format to see how large it would be, before I quit linux for Windows. It came out to 270kb. I was hoping to open it in word in winxp, and then convert it to pdf. But the formatting was so messed up it was easier to start over fresh in Word. But then, they tell me it isn't going to work right when try to save it as a doc file in open office. The new word file displaying the same information (plus an extra couple of pages of text that I forgot on the copy that I produced in OO) as the newsletter produced in odt came out to 220kb. 4. Those linux pdf files were too large to use, so I went back to WinXP and made up the file in Word (220kb). I then converted that to pdf, and got a file size of 270kb. That is useable, and I don't know of any way to make it smaller in Windows unless I start removing some pictures from the newsletter. As it stands now, I think that I will have to stick with windows for this task unless someone has a brainstorm and thinks of a way to make these linux pdf files smaller. Hello, In a script I want to know in which directory I am, but I don't want to know the whole path. I thought it was easy, but I got an errormessage: drek@laptop:~> pwd | basename basename: missing operand Try `basename --help' for more information. I expected to get the output from pwd ( /home/drek/ ) piped to basename. So I expected to get "drek" as the final result. But unfortunately.... Anyone with an explanation? [opensuse] Problem with ACPI on suse 11, it showes wrong temperature

Hi everyone. I have laptop HP nx9420 with Suse 11 on it, and I have a problem with ACPI. ACPI showes temperatures of CPU too high. In fact the cooler works so loud. What I must do to solve this problem. Is there a specific kernel module? Please help.... [opensuse] Evolution-Exchange to open other users mailbox

Does anyone use evolution-exchange and have it set to also open another user's mailbox? I cannot get this to function. When I go to File > Subscribe to another Users Exchange Folder option and enter the mailbox name I get a message saying "generic error" with no real insight as to the problem. [opensuse] fglrx Driver Bug Radeon x1650 AGP - no Overlay or Compositing

Listmates, This is a conclusion drawn from working with the x1650 AGP card in a MSI KM2M motherboard for the past 3 weeks with no luck. See: ([opensuse] radeon 1650 agp - no compiz, blank glxgears, but good frame rates?) The problem is that the AGP x1650 card cannot handle any overlay or composite display. After trying all options with both the 8-8 and 8-9 driver, the card still would not draw the gears in glxgears, video in mplayer or anything in compiz. Solution: I replaced the x1650 512M card with an x800 XT 256M card, dropped it in the slot, rebooted (didn't even bother to alter the board name in xorg.conf) and everything worked perfectly. The frame rates with glxgears were everybit as good as with the x1650, and ... there were actually _gears_ in the glxgears box. Compiz worked perfectly. There is a definite bug in the driver as it relates to the AGP x1650. Christian, is Novell still closing all ATI driver issues as "Invalid" "Won't Fix"?
