I think there are a couple of die-hard DEC users on here. I just saw that AdvFS has been opensourced. http://advfs.sourceforge.net/ I haven't used it in close to 10 years, but I used to think that was a great filesystem. If this gets ported to Linux, it will be one more true enterprise class FS for linux. Nice to see them still coming. [opensuse] DVD-Writer/ROM speed limit

Hi all, I have a "damaged" DVD that starts wobbling in the drive when it spins up to be read. Is there is way to limit die DVD drive to only read at 1x speed? [opensuse] Virtual machine software options?

Hi, Last year, when I was using WindowsXP, I used VMWare Workstation to run another installation of XP as a guest - primarily to simplify changing machines. I'd like to establish the same setup using openSUSE. I'm currently using openSUSE 10.2. What I'd like to do: - Install a openSUSE 11.0 guest on my current machine. - Move my /home contents to this guest, configure the guest - When the guest is 'the way I need it', backup the guest and do a fresh install of openSUSE 11.0 (possibly 11.1 by then) - Copy the guest over, and resume work... What are the linux VMWare equivalents? Is there a generally acknowledged best-of-breed? Any comments on the advisability of this approach? Specifically: - What cpu, disk and network performance price is to be paid, e.g 10% cpu cost, etc.? I would appreciate any insights or comments. [opensuse] ODF files on SMB/CIFS share

I have some XLS and ODT files on a Windows AD server (CIFS share). When openning the XLS files using KIO (Konq or Krusader with smb://) OpenOffice pops up and asks for a Win domain password (which I give) and everything opens as expected. When I do the same for the ODT file I get get an OpenWith popup from KDE. If I navigate to Calc it works. When copying the file to the local drive it works as expected; so the file associations is fine. Whats going on? Manne ps. is there is way to tell OpenOffice to get my Win domain password from KDE or Kerberos or where-ever. [opensuse] opensuse 11.0 cups oddity

Folks, I'm running opensuse 11.0 x64 and I have multiplr printers configured through cups. I notice when I go to cups to check settings of my printers, the FIRST printer make/model are NOT displayed. Instead cups says model is unknown! When I print to this printer, everything prints fine. Has anyone else encountered this apparent bug? [opensuse] OOo 2.4 not rendering fonts

Half my fonts go back to the days of Win311. Until now they all rendered fine. Now only one in ten works correct. Kword, ABIWord and the font viewers of KDE and Gnome see them. Kword can use these fonts just fine so what is wrong with OOo? How do I correct OOo??????????????? [opensuse] Hopefully simple printing question

All, OS 10.3 / KDE / Network Printer (HP 4500 Color Laser) My printer has somehow stalled. Everything I print goes to a queue and never pops out of the printer. I know the printer is not the problem because I have a XP VM on the same machine and I can print from there fine. How do I tell OS to start printing again.
