[opensuse] VNC Remote Install on 11.0 Broken

I've tried on openSUSE 11.0 to install via VNC. Simply added vnc=1 to the startup options, it detects the network via DHCP and then says "Starting VNC viewer... when Yast is finished close your VNC viewer and return to this window" I can then connect via VNC and am prompted for the password. The VNC session immediately closes and some messages are flashed on the screen too quick to read and I am taken to the blue installation menu. I can try again but the same thing happens. [opensuse] Suspend to RAM and CPUs

I finally got my S2RAM working on Vostro 1700 and 10.3. I only had to add S2RAM_OPTS="-f --acpi_sleep 1" to my /etc/pm/config.d dir. Unfortunately it seems that dbus dies on occasion and (maybe related) kpowersave shows only one CPU active (laptop is a Core2 Duo, I usually see 2 CPUs). Any ideas? [opensuse] system error code -3002

Hello SuSE people, Trying to delete and forrmat a partition on my USB hard drive. Yast partitioner won't let me do it. I get the message "system error code -3002" I have no idea what that means. You can try one of these. 1. If you did not do a fresh install, go to Yast->Hardware->sound and remove the sound card, exit and then reinstall the card via Yast (see Rajko's reply for the howto. 2. Do a fresh install and see if that helps. 3. Reboot, but when it asks for boot options type (without the quotation marks) "acpi=off" and see if that helps, could be some irq issues. Intel sound cards have always been my nemesis. My soundcard did not work in 10.3. BTW, I am not an expert by any means, I am just a hobbyist user. HTH. --Keith

Hi, has anyone found mod_rewrite on openSuSE 11 ?? I seem to be unable to see it... :-/ and I need it for WordPress... [opensuse] PHP, Pear, and MSSQL Oh my!

We are in a situation where we need PHP/Pear to support MS SQL. Swaying from this is not an option. We are standardizing on one linux distro, so we purchased the enterprise version of Suse 10.1. (This place uses windows mostly with few linux and unix) The web developers use ubunto, and redhat, and this is a complete non issue. Searching the internet I see this is a common problem with Suse as they claim best Microsoft/windows compatibility but do not compile database support for one of the major databases used. So I am hoping someone can walk me through getting PHP to support MS SQL? If it is a recompile, I will need help with that since i have not recompiled anything since redhat 5.1, and the last time I tried with suse 9.1 I gave up. [opensuse]KDE4 - What people like/dislike about it

Since everyone seems to be just bashing KDE4(which I am guilty of) or raving about it, I thought I would post what I don't like about KDE4: 1. It's SLOW! - KDE4 is "supposed" to be faster and require less resources than KDE3.x. WRONG! I am running KDE v3.5.9 on this Thinkpad 390X(P3/500 Neomagic 256 w/ 2.5MB VRAM) and it was VERY SLOW. I also have it on my Celeron DC system(E1200 OC'd to 3.2Ghz) with an ATI X300(PCIe) and it's definately slower on that system than KDE3. Do I need some new video card to make this faster statement true? And if so, WHY? 2. It's too Vista-like! - If I wanted Vista, I would run it. Having icons "jump" at me and do strange things isn't what I expect out of KDE. I've used KDE since SuSE v5.3, and this "change" is in the wrong direction, IMHO. 3. It's not Complete - People continue to point this out. If it's not complete, then WHY is it that there is only a KDE4 liveCD? That makes no sense. 4. The KDE4 versions of a lot of stuff are way too different. - As an example, look at how different even the games like Mahjongg look. I stand by what I have experienced - KDE4 is just not good enough right now, and I really don't understand this huge push to make it work. Anyone who disagrees, please feel free to show me the error of my ways. But, so long as it runs slower on my CHOICE of hardware, then I see no benefit to using it. [opensuse] Where is my Thunderbird...

Hi, I installed thunderbird on my openSuse 11. I can't seem to find an entry for it in : Applications ---> Internet ---> Email. I have run thunderbird from command line for now.
