[opensuse] KDE4 oddities and problems

I've been using KDE4 as the main desktop on my openSUSE 11.0 install and have run into a few minor... well maybe not so minor issues I am trying to sort out.. Just wondering if anyone else has bumped into the same problems yet or if it's just a result of my tinkering... I've updated everything to 4.0.84 - as far as I can tell, this is the most recent build of KDE4 1. Amarok 1.4.9.1. Amarok pushes CPU0 to 100% and stays there until I kill Amarok and the amarokcollection process. The problem seems to be the amarokcollecton process. Is there a newer version of Amarok around? or a KDE4 version? I haven't been able to find one yet. 2. The KMenu. I don't like the "slab" menu, so I switch it to the traditional menu. This works OK for a while... when you click the menu button, you are presented with top level menus.. Games, Graphics, Internet with sub menus and applications hanging off that. At some point the sub menus end up mirroring the top level menu so that no matter what sub menu you go into all you see is more of the top level menu. The "fix" I've found is to switch to the "slab" and then back to the traditional menu. 3. Adding new applications. New applications do not show up in the KMenu unless I do the slab/traditional menu switch thing or log out and back in again. 4. Superkaramba. There is a KDE4 "version" of Superkaramba, but transparency does not work. There is a popup that suggests enabling desktop effects to make transparencies work. This does change the background of the Superkaramba widgets... from white to black, but it does not enable transparencies. Are there desktop widgets that can be used to monitor CPU load, network traffic, disk usage, and sensors? 5. After updating to 4.0.84, I lost the menu entry for "Personal Settings". It's not found anywhere except the Favorites menu. So far, this is all I haven't resolved with KDE4. Everything else is working well so far. [opensuse] xchat ?

Hi. I'm using xchat on my openSUSE 11.0. How do I totally erase xchat from the install ?. Reason I want it is, that I have erased all the servers from the EFnet. I would have added a new server, but every time I try it, I get the newserver/6667. I seem not ot be able to add a new server, and then I would un/reinstall it. But after a un/reinstall, I can see, that xchat remember it's settings. [opensuse] System Guard does not display system information

I have recently installed openSuSE 11.0 with KDE 3.5. I have noticed that the System Guard, run as an applet in the KDE panel no longer displays system information (user, system, nice loads). I assume that I need to start a daemon to have these informations displayed. [opensuse] [11.0] resolv.conf broken on boot?

This file had last been written on boot a few minutes before finding WAN was inaccessible normally. It had only one entry, domain <domainname>. Yesterday it was working, on an HTTP install via eth0 that was fresh the day before. The NIC is set so eth0 is only started if on cable connection. Normal connection is on wlan0, which was working when added after installation yesterday, and is working as long as I stick to using only IP addresses. I have wlan0 configured for a fixed IP. In YaST2 when I goto the Hostname/DNS tab for wlan0, I'm not allowed to set name servers unless I uncheck the box "update DNS data via DHCP". It is supposed to be this way? Why can't it permit the router, which is a DHCP server, to supply/update the DNS info? Can the DNS and default route be made to automatically change if the ethernet cable is plugged in? I unchecked the box and input the router IP and a couple of alternates for DNS, and now I have normal internet access, but I wonder about down the road when I plug in the ethernet cable while the default wireless connection is unavailable if anything will work at all without futzing with YaST2? -- "Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation?" [opensuse] Back-Porting 11.0 package management to 10.3 -- Possible?

List, For those that know the details of the new package management scheme in 11.0, would it be feasible to backport it to 10.3. After having used it, it is orders of magnitude faster that the 10.3 scheme, but with so much effort into a number of 10.3 desktops/servers, it doesn't justify an OS upgrade alone. How interwoven is it with 11.0? Is it simply a matter of replacing a few packages or is it so tightly integrated with the 11.0 that a backport is simply a pipe-dream? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. [opensuse] Has anyone yet recieved thier boxed OpenSuse?

I'm asking because I was having a discussion about various linux versions w/ someone from the "Windows World" who was giving me a lot of static because "You can't watch a DVD right out of the box like you can w/ Windows" And proceeded down that path til it was more than obvious; I was wasting my time. However I ordered the boxed set, and just got the word that it should be here early next week, and I don't remember anyone saying that the "out of the box" music and DVDs, which "just play".. [opensuse] KDE desktopn setting lost from KDE3.x to 4.x

Folks, After successfully upgrading from 10.3 to 11.0 I noticed that ALL my desktop setting from KDE 3.x are missing on KDE4.x and in particular, my kmail account info and contacts are gone. I still have the .kde/share/config/kmailrc file which has most of the necessary info, but I do not want to re-type everything in by hand. Is there a way to re-load my old KDE settings and save them into KDE 4.x?
