[opensuse] KDE4 multirow task manager prob?

Is it just me or is the new multirow task manager misbehaving a bit (KDE4.1.71)? Observations/problems: - When there is one application running, the "button" in the task manager spans the entire width of the available space in the task manager - If I set the Maximum Rows to 1, it still insists on 2 rows unless I open the Task Manager Settings.. then to drops back to 1 row. Nothing major.. just annoying.. was wondering if it's just me or has anyone else bumped into this? I did some searching, but didn't find much.. just loads of requests for this feature to be added. [opensuse] Amarok XINE Engine Problem

Hi! I have continuous problem with Amarok (packman build on SuSE 11.0/KDE 3.5). Using yuyap enfine everything is fine, but yuyap do not plays m4A lossless files. Switching to xine engine considerable lowers output volume no matter of Amarok and system sound settings. Anyone knows how to solve this problem, and if its possible to use another engine with Amarok, i.e. Mplayer? Maybe there is another music player for linux which has the same volume normalization plugin as one for Amarok (Replaigain) ? But did you actually call your ISP for help with the problem? You may need to be persistent to get above the bottom-feeders who likely know nothing about such things. John Perry No, I haven't done that. I started having this problem in Dubai on this trip, and it has continued in Singapore and here where I am at in Japan at this moment. I knew by common sense that it had something to do with hackers who commonly use international domiciles as their base for hacking. I just wondered if there was an easy way around this to keep using Thunderbird. What I do is to go to the website of my ISP, log in, and then send mail out from the website. It just isn't as convenient as thunderbird, so I was trying to figure a way around this. If I call the ISP I will do it when I get back from the business trip I am on. [opensuse] OO 3.0 Bugs, do we report them to bugzilla.novell or to openoffice?

Listmates, In openOffice 3.0 from (stable) for 11.0, there is a bug in writer in the way it handles table row select. (attempting to select row on page 1, selects top row on page 2). Before drawing the ire of those quick to add negative comments, I would like to confirm whether this should be reported on the openSuSE bugzilla or the openOffice bugzilla. Thanks. -- David C. [opensuse] Batch queue or spooler?

>From time to time I want to convert a number of .wav files to .mp3. At the moment the script that creates the .wav calls lame immediately the file is written. Snag is I end up with a lot of simultanious instances of lame running and it is quite processor intensive. In fact, it brings my little netbook to a screaching and sometimes fatal halt. I'm thinking that what I need is a spooler that will react to new .wav files by converting them, so that only one or two instances of lame run at any one time. The idea would be to be transparent, so that if I reboot the machine while conversion is going on it will be restarted at start up. I don't mind if it starts from the beginning of the current .wav, there is no need to resume where it left off. I have thought of three ideas: use the at queue; use anacron; or write a simple daemon spooling script with a foreach loop, lots of sleep before looping and a nice command to run lame. Or am I missing something? is there some supertool already written which will encapsulate it all for me? some spooling service I have not come across? I liked the old VMS batch command where you could have as many jobs running at the end of a queue as you liked, and they would automatically re-start if the machine was restarted. [opensuse] SuSE 7.3/ppc install fail?

Yes, I know it's old, but I'm trying to install SuSE 7.3/PPC on my old Wallstreet powerbook, and everytime I try, YaST fails. I looked and only thing I found was a message that the YaST in the install was broken and a newer version was needed. I downloaded the whole repository and can't get the installer to start. I get the following message: yast2 return code is 32512 (errno = 2) If anyone can remember, please let me know. The latter was designed to fix broken threading caused by non-compliant emailers (mostly Microsoft) which did not return References headers on replys. That caused thread splitting. Hi, I am looking for a little education via this email. I have found when I go on trips that I often can't send email, and once I have a problem I can't send email again until I get back home and send email from there. I seem to be able to send email on trips until it hits a snag, usually in certain countries, then it won't work in countries where it otherwise would to send email. I am using Thunderbird on OSuse 10.3, but I tried Vista with windows mail and thunderbird and get the same results. When it fails, I get a message like this: An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: SBL-XBL restriction: See http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=216.123.124.120. So I checked and found this instruction: Outbound Email Policy of The Spamhaus Project for this IP range: This IP range has been identified by Spamhaus as not meeting our policy for IPs which should deliver 'direct-to-mx' mail to PBL users. Important: If you are using any normal email software such as Outlook, Entourage, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, and you are being blocked by this Spamhaus PBL listing when you try to send email, the reason is simply that you need to turn on "SMTP Authentication" in your email software settings (Tools : Accounts : Properties : Outgoing Mail Server : check "My server requires authentication"). If you do not know how to do this, ask your Internet Service Provider for help with "SMTP Authentication". I checked my settings per this instruction, and found that they were already correct: SMTP authentication >From MozillaZine Knowledge Base If your ISP or e-mail service provider requires SMTP authentication for outgoing mail, you will need to use the "Use name and password" option for that SMTP server. Note: SMTP authentication has nothing to do with using a secure connection or any preferences in your POP or IMAP settings. To set up Thunderbird (or SeaMonkey) to use authentication with your SMTP server: * Go to "Tools -> Account Settings -> Outgoing Server (SMTP)". (If using SeaMonkey: go to "Edit -> Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings -> Outgoing Server (SMTP)".) * Select the server and press the Edit... button. * Check the "Use name and password" option. * Add your username. Your username might be your full e-mail address (e.g., "johndoe(a)example.com") or only the part before the "@" ("johndoe"), depending on your service provider; check with them which is correct. * Click "OK". Thunderbird will ask you for your password the first time you send email and you can optionally save it at that time. Even though the setting seems to be correct, it doesn't work.
