Even so, the TUV certification is valid for the current version of LiMux... which contains KDE 3.5... so what's the point? Nobody, but really NOBODY forces you to go to openSUSE 11.2 (which won't have kde 3 shipped anymore)... Having an old product removed from a package is nothing unusual.... ever tried to sue the competitor for not having IE6 shipped with Vista anymore? You can't tell me IE7 is equal to 6, as I know some sites which refuse to work with anything else than IE6 But this is getting really far off what this list should all be about. If you don't agree to steps taken by a distro, recompile the old packages for your favorite version and install it... [opensuse] Is the a list of Switches that support link bonding?

All, I considering setting up link bonding for the first time. The server would have 2 NICs. Possibly a couple of the clients would have the same, but most of the clients only one NIC. I've checked a couple switches and I'm confused. I found one old comment that there was a 8-port Netgear 1Gbit switch that supported it for $100 which sounds great. But I need about 24 ports, and from my initial looks I haven't found one yet that does. My method is to drill down into spec sheets, but I'm hoping someone has already done that and built a nice list? [opensuse] mdadm --grow

All, I'm conceptually putting together a NFS server in my head. (I will build it once I know what it is!!) What I want is something flexible. ie. Have it start with 3 or 4 drives, then add a drive when I need the capacity. Remove a drive when I don't. replace the drives with bigger drives as the become available. All without losing my data. (Or having to back it up / restore it.) I'd like to start with a 4 disk Raid 10 providing 2 TB of space, but then have the ability to add disks, change raid techniques etc. (ie. convert to raid 6 without data loss!!). mdadm --grow implies it can do this, but there is not much there and my google searches did not turn up much either. Can anyone tell me how well it works and what sorts of things can actually be done. And can it be used to "shrink" a volume. (I believe XFS supports shrinking a filesystem, so I would first shrink the filesystem, then hopefully use mdadm to shrink the raid array.) If mdadm can't do any of this, is there a hardware controller card that can? FYI: The Drobo (www.drobo.com) can do the above as I understand it, but the performance is apparently very slow. Only 5 to 8 MB/sec from the reviews I saw. I want at least 80MB/sec when reading large files. [opensuse] openSUSE 11.0 on Dell Precision 490: Reboot problems

Hi, We noticed that some of our Dell Precision 490 workstations do not power cycle with openSUSE 11.0. When typing "reboot" it halts but does not poweroff or reboot. One has to manually press the power button. The 490 workstations had BIOS A06 installed, but an update to A08 did not help. Other 490 workstations that worked fine previously had BIOS A00. We're preparing a migration from Suse 10.1 to openSUSE 11.0 and during the Autyast installation the system should boot 4 times. Are there any known issues about this or does someone have have a clue? [opensuse] KDE4 multirow task manager prob?

Is it just me or is the new multirow task manager misbehaving a bit (KDE4.1.71)? Observations/problems: - When there is one application running, the "button" in the task manager spans the entire width of the available space in the task manager - If I set the Maximum Rows to 1, it still insists on 2 rows unless I open the Task Manager Settings.. then to drops back to 1 row. Nothing major.. just annoying.. was wondering if it's just me or has anyone else bumped into this? I did some searching, but didn't find much.. just loads of requests for this feature to be added. Hi, I have installed Intel MKL on OpenSuSE 10.3 but even samples can not be compiled due to internal error. The error message is: ld: BFD (GNU Binutils) 2.17.50.20070726-14 (SUSE Linux) internal error, aborting at ../../bfd/reloc.c line 5285 in bfd_generic_get_relocated_section_contents ld: Please report this bug. The Intel's web site says that SuSE (Enterprise) and RedHat are supported. Has anyone experienced MKL on OpenSuSE? [opensuse] Fetching updates once for two boxes

Because of limits imposed by ISP's, I am concerned that the typically huge updates will exceed the limits. This month I have had over 12Gb total for both boxes. How can I fetch all the updates required for both boxes once without having to become a repository and download everything--which would far exceed isp's limits. This would probably be some sort of proxy agent that can read the installed database for each box then fetch each package once and only once for both boxes. [opensuse] bonding interface causes udev error after reboots

While testing a redundant network interface in an OpenSUSE 11.0 I ran into an error condition which prevents bonded interfaces coming up again on reboot. It appears to be related to the udev persistent net naming scheme, and can be easily reproduced. eth0 and eth1 were configured as off, bond0 was configured as active- backup using eth0 and eth1 as slaves, largely as configured by yast, plus: > BONDING_MODULE_OPTS='mode=1 miimon=100 use_carrier=0 primary=eth0' > BONDING_SLAVE_0='eth0' > BONDING_SLAVE_1='eth1' added to /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-bond0. On rebooting to restart the network and initialize the bond0 interface all worked perfectly. On a second reboot, however, the eth1 interface was renamed to "eth1_rename". since there was no eth1 slave the bonded interface failed to start (itself very odd because the redundancy of the bond should only require one working interface). I noticed eth1's MAC address had been replaced by one identical to eth0. This is evidently a normal thing for the bonding interface to do. on reboot this confuses udev's persistent net naming rules, which use the MAC address to assign the interface name, into naming the interface eth1_rename_ren. It did not happen the first reboot because the interface had not yet reprogrammed the MAC address. [opensuse] Unable to play audio.

Hi All ! I have been trying to troubleshoot this issue; every time I feel I am getting closer but left nowhere. I have a SoundBlaster 5.1 soundcard and multimedia. The OpenSUSE 11.0 recognises the h/w and loads drivers does everything fine for a few minutes. Alsamixer is working fine. PulseAudio manager is going to mode :Connection Refused a few minutes after startup. I have tried removing Pulse and tried to work around through the alsamixer. Bad luck :(. Reformatting and re-installing the OS did help to a great extent but am still short of getting to play audio. I am a newbie to Linux, I have installed it and using it just from last two weeks.
