[opensuse] mount remote NFS share Time Out

Dear All, I have two SUSE 10.3 workstations in the same network and are running smoothly. But there is a little bit problem with one of the workstaion. I want to mount the remote NFS share on a Windows 2003 R2 Server. One is OK ,but another give me the message "time out" when try to mount the remote folder.All the network connection between these machine is OK ,I'm sure. If I try to mount the NFS share on remote Linux System, there is no such problem! Any one can give me your hand ? [opensuse] Four disks RAID 0 performance

Hi, I've made several tests of RAID 0 performance for upcoming server upgrade, and got strange results. So I ask some experieced users for opinion and suggestions. I've used IBM x3400 with 4 SATA 250GB disks, software RAID and hdparm -tT for test on OpenSUSE 11.0 x64. 1) one disk shows about 60 MB/s, and that's OK 2) two disks in RAID 0 shows about 120 MB/s and that's OK, too 3) three disks in RAID 0 show about 180 MB/s and that's OK, too, but 4) four disks in RAID 0 show 180 MB/s again, and that I can't explain, 5) I tried also nested RAID 0 of two 2-disks RAID 0, which also shows not more that 180 MB/s. I checked mdadm syntax several times (so I can be pretty sure that there is no problem), tried to use several combinations, but I never get more than 180 MB/s, which is far for approx. upper limit 240 MB/s that I expected and wanted. Why I can't see any improvemet by adding fourth disk to RAID 0? Is there any other SW/HW limit that can apply? I tried built-in hardware RAID 0 on all 4 disks. hdparm -tT shows something betwen 90-130 MB/s, what is even more strange. I saw several benchmarks on the Web which cleary shows 240 MB/s in similar configuration like mine. Is hdparm good enough for testing? Is there some proven better benchmark test that somebody can suggest? I have only 4 disks now, so I can't test RAID 50. Thaks for any opinion and suggestion. -- Ivan Guštin

[opensuse] Adding keys using KGpg

Hello, Opensuse 10.3 KGpg 1.2.2 Gpg 2.0.4 I wonder if anyone else is having this problem. I am unable to add keys using the KGpg keyserver dialogue. I add a search string or a hash and KGpg immediately responds (without the time delay for the query to go up and the answer to come down that you might expect). All servers listed in kgpg result in the same immediate answer of "0 matching keys", and even the one I added (hkp://wwwkeys.de.pgp.net). I googled the problem and found that on a debian list someeone has come across a similar problem here; http://www.omgili.com/newsgroups/linux/debian/bugs/dist/biEQu-2if-27gated-a… I have looked at the bug list for KGpg and was unable to find anything similar to this. I was wondering whether anybody else had experienced similar problems before opening a bug report ( at this point I am assuming that this is necessary). All help/info gratefully received. [opensuse] SUSE install from USB drive

Running 11.0 I have a generic 8GB USB drive that is ok on fdisk (or cfdisk), mkdosfs, dosfsck (initial check) Have tried from a good iso also from the dirs extract from the iso. Then after doing the cp command then doing another check, I get weird errors - like, bad long file names, lost sectors, etc. Sometimes I even go back and check the partition with cfdisk and the partition table is messed up. I've also tried dosfsck and correct the errors which it says it does but the next check with cfdisk or dosfsck still gives errors. I've even tried using rsync and it blows off with errors on . files - wherever they are coming from. A couple of times I've had to use the -z with cfdisk. [opensuse] XEN running not in full virtualization?

Hi! I have an older ACER laptop, and I'd like to run the XEN virtualization on this computer, but during the hypervisor install got "fully virtualization not supported" message. Certainly I know, that this CPU isn't supporting the fully virtualization, but is there any solution, to solving this problem? May the XEN running on Celeron CPU? [opensuse] USB Under VMware

OS: OpenSuSE 11.0 VMware Server 1.0.7 Hardware: Dell 600SC USB: PCI USB2 Card I want to run my BlackBerry desktop software on a XP guest OS under VMware, etc. but I cannot get VMware to see my USB ports. I thought the problem was the (circa 2003) Dell server had older USB 1.1 ports so I added a USB 2 card which SuSE sees and even sees my attached BlackBerry. (The BlackBerry display a message about insufficient voltage to charge the battery but I don't want to charge it here.) As an alternative test, I plugged my USB flash drive into another port and the OS saw it though I had to manually mount it and then it shows up in KDE just fine but not in VMware or XP. Any ideas here? Alternatively, is there anyway to access my BB directly under Linux. I would like to do file transfers and be able to back my BB up to the SuSE box. [opensuse] Loading an encrypted partition at boot time

Following the spate of lost government laptops and hard drives in the UK recently, I decided to encrypt the /home partition on my laptop. And, no, it doesn't contain any state secrets ;) When I boot up, I now have to type in the passphrase to allow mounting of /home, as expected. What I would like to do is put a passphrase onto a USB memory stick, which would have to be present to allow the machine to boot properly. I have created a textfile on the memory stick called (for the sake of argument) /media/disk/this_is_my_passphrase, which contains the one line passphrase which I created with the following: # cryptsetup luksAddKey /dev/sda3 /media/disk/this_is_my_passphrase How do get the system to mount the USB memory stick *before* it tries to mount /home, so that the alternative passphrase can be found?
