[opensuse] XEN running not in full virtualization?
Hi! I have an older ACER laptop, and I'd like to run the XEN virtualization on this computer, but during the hypervisor install got "fully virtualization not supported" message. Certainly I know, that this CPU isn't supporting the fully virtualization, but is there any solution, to solving this problem? May the XEN running on Celeron CPU? (Possibly not in fully virtualization mode?) Thanks Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yep, it's possible to run para-virtualized client OSes such as openSUSE itself. Details about differences between full and para-virtualization can be found at e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xen. HTH, cheers. l8er manfred -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Hello!
Thank you the link, I saw that. Could you give me some instructions
for the paravirtualized setup and maintenance? I'd like to install
Windows XP Pro to my OpenSuSE 11.0.

Well, then you'd actually need a newer CPU with either Intel-VT or AMD-V support. Paravirtualization requires some modifications to be made to the guest operating system, which is obviously not possible without having the OS source code handy. Any binary-only OS such as Windows can only run fully virtualized :-( In case you want to ``play'' only with Xen just to become more familiar with the technology, I'd suggest you take a look at e.g. http://www.novell.com/documentation/sles10/xen_admin/data/bookinfo.html While this is about SLES 10, it still contains some pretty comprehensive documentation about how to setup virtual machines etc.
